What sexist behaviour would be the most shocking if reversed?

I was thinking feminist thoughts to myself (as you do Grin ), and I was thinking about how this belief that sexism doesn't exist anymore creates a huge backlash against anyone who speaks out against it, which in turn makes people who do in fact believe in equal rights for men and women try to distance themselves from feminism because it's perceived as crazy and unreasonable. The problem is that a lot of it is so ingrained in our culture and society that it is completely normalised, and the majority of people don't even notice it anymore.

So what would be the most obvious, outrageous sexist behaviour, if we swapped the genders? Would it be men being followed, harassed and intimidated in the street, or on the music channel men gyrating and grinding dressed increasingly revealing clothing while women are all fully clothed? Men dancing in the windows of the red light district, or the overwhelming majority of politicians and CEOs being female?

What in your opinion would bring about the most uproar if one day sexism suddenly switched genders?

Sorry if any part of this doesn't make sense, I had a beautifully written OP all typed out and then my iPad lost it all for no apparent reason... Angry

buffy, in this gender-flip world, have Cambridge and Oxford swapped places? Shock

Great stuff on here, but just wanted to pull this one out by Elephants:

"The Prime Minister and all the other main party leaders would be women with young children, who would happily pose with a newspaper that featured a daily picture of a teenage boy's naked arse. "

OMG! That is such an incredibly jarring image. Really, really odd. Thanks for that one, Elephants.

She's at Newnham, Cambridge.

She occasionally speaks at Oxford.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 20/06/2014 10:47

Newnham? New Hall, as was, now Murray Edwards. See, I'm confused too.

A female tennis ace hiring a male coach would cause headlines worldwide.

HazleNutt · 20/06/2014 12:35

Having just read a FGM article - Every time there is an article about some problem affecting men, the comments, instead of discussing that issue, would be asking "But what about women!?! Women are affected by this as well. Why are you even concentrating on that issue and ignoring women's similar issue? We should talk about women instead!"

Aseaandthreestars · 20/06/2014 13:36

When a male Captain makes a pre-flight announcement, all of the women look around and make "Do you think we'll make it?" noises to each other.

The male flight attendants will step out of their high heels and put their slightly lower heels on for in-flight service.

Not sure it's the most shocking but i will add men getting questions about will they work after they become fathers? Do they feel happy leaving their baby in nursery? Will theybe working full time? Wow. When will they prepare all the meals for the week?
...and having comments like "fathers who work are not real fathers" pop up eventually on any internet forum about this.
...and having to have some kind of very polarised verbal 'war' between fathers who work in the home and fathers who work outside the home.
It being taboo for a man to admit he might be a working parent if he won the Lotto because he enjoys his job... if he loved his babies enough (i.e. more than the woman) he would go to work sighing with a heavy heart.
And of course, his wages would be lower but the main wage all the childminding came out of...

SAHD vs WOOTHD debates will rage endlessly in most media

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 20/06/2014 18:25

89% of serious crimes would be perpetrated by women, but when men tried to raise this they would be called sexist, shouted down and patronisingly told that not ALL women commit crimes so gender is irrelevant.

grimbletart · 20/06/2014 18:35

Men with careers and children would get tired of being asked "can men really have it all?"

CaptChaos · 20/06/2014 20:30

Men who can't reach orgasm through non PIV sex are thought of as lesser sexual partners and are shamed by the women they have sex with. There are endless articles in fluffy men's magazines about how to achieve non PIV orgasm and yet there are still loads of agony uncles getting letters about it and suggesting that they just try harder.

This is a brilliant thread so I'm bumping Grin

Based on my experience at A&E yesterday: our sons aged 11 would wince and say 'oh no' when asked by the nurse to hop on the scales.

(Glad to say that in the real world, the lovely nurse immediately called my dd on it and said 'don't you ever worry about what you weigh, my love, just whether you're healthy')

KristinaM · 21/06/2014 10:59

Now there's a good nurse Smile

An article in The Guardian 21/06/14 would say "could rock's future be male?"

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/06/2014 18:36

In tribute to two things I saw this morning:

Women would do sports all day at the weekend while their DHs made tea and crumpets and scones for everyone. And, clapped them for doing the sport.

The National Geographic would do a magazine once a year called "Great Men in History". Ignoring women 90% of the rest of the time. Unless one man had particularly blue eyes and dark skin. he would be famous.

Scarletohello · 21/06/2014 18:41

A man would disagree with a woman on TV and a female politician would tweet how much she'd like to punch him in the throat. This would not be taken seriously by the female PM and most people would agree that yes this silly man was irritating ( and kind of deserved it)

Saltedcaramel2014 · 21/06/2014 18:43

Groom being given away by his mother at his wedding. Speeches only from his new bride and other females, including one by his mother, which should 'represent' him
