  1. Have smeared the twins' cradle cap liberally with rapeseed oil, left, combed through, left Dentinox on in the bath for ten mins, rinsed through, and it all came off in big satisfying clumps. I got a bizarre amount of pleasure from this.
  1. I bit the bullet and got Plumbs round to reupholster my awkwardly shaped sofa and it's gorgeous! And the covers are just about less tricky to take on and off than a sleeping bag is to put back in its bag IYKWIM and they're machine washable. I, embarrassingly, may have punched the air. I need to get out more.
  1. Storing complete bedding sets inside one of the pillow cases has led to uncrumpled sheets and duvets that MATCH.
  1. Tomatoes out of the fridge are sweet and juicy.

I is DELIGHTED with the MN service. Please continue revolutionising my life Smile.

I need to know about the powder drawer too - I have recently started doing vinegar maintenance washes and was impressed by the drum, but my drawer does not come out like my previous machine and there's all plaques of slimy gunky old powder just out of reach. boiling water does not shift it. maybe I need boiling vinegar?

I put the entire powder drawer in the dishwasher (normally with the plastic dish drainer too). Both come out like new, no slime or gunk anywhere!

phantomnamechanger · 08/04/2014 10:26

my powder drawer does not come out though! its a quarter circle shape when its open, IYSWM , and its fixed at the left hand side. all previous machines have just been a pull forwards rectangular drawer that comes out.

MooMinCow · 08/04/2014 10:31

Oh just read your post again. Can you contact manufacturer and ask if there's a way to remove it?

RollerCola · 08/04/2014 10:33

Thanks coil I'll try that mould gel. While we're on the mould subject, is that any good for getting black mould off the bath seal? That stresses me out big time too!

dettol mould and mildew remover works on mould - spray it on and leave it for a while (longer than it says on the bottle)

Can I have a sofa quote please?

weeredcar · 08/04/2014 10:57

If you have scuff marks on your patent shoes (on the surface - not actual damage to the patent), use nail varnish remover to get rid of them.

stinkingbishop · 08/04/2014 11:02

Sofa newsflash!!!

Just got my guarantee in the post from Plumbs and there are loads of offers for friends and family (and I consider MN family now Smile).

Quote M392FYB for 20% off loose covers/curtains and 15% off reupholstery.

I also have some paper vouchers for money off dining chair covers, footstools, conservatory furniture etc. Can post to you if you PM me your address. As I will then fill in your address on the 'refer a friend' form and send to them so they can contact you for a free visit (which means I get M&S vouchers!) First two to contact me!

coilregret you just made me spurt my coffee out Wink.

Please could I have the plumbs cost too...

officelady · 08/04/2014 11:20

Loving these tips! Just need to actually get off my backside and test some of them ...
phantomnamechanger what make is your washing machine? We have a Hotpoint with a quarter-circle drawer - it does come out, there's a knack to it. The front panel that you pull to open the drawer remains attached but the actual bit where the powder goes does slide out with a firm pull. Hope that helps!

Just a small warning on a tip above about putting essential oils into steam irons (and steam cleaners). Many instruction manuals advise against this and you could actually be invalidating any warranty you have on the product by doing it.

Essential Oils are not water soluble and can leave a residue in your appliance, you could end up damaging it. Better to buy yourself a plant sprayer and spray onto the clothing.

NomDeClavier · 08/04/2014 11:49

Whoever it was - the dishwasher tablet trick works for gas hobs. It also works for burnt ceramic oven dishes.

For really greasy pans fill with wan water, leave until the fat rises, then chill (try adding ice cubes). The fat will solidify and you can hoik it out rather than tipping it down the drain.

BuzzardBird · 08/04/2014 12:14

Winter yes, just enough water to cover garment after you have poured as much cheap hair conditioner over it as you can.

BuzzardBird · 08/04/2014 12:14

Any advice on my cast iron gas cooker rests yet?

DandelionGilver · 08/04/2014 12:17

Keep your stainless steel appliances shiny and looking like new

After cleaning, spray on a small amount of WD40 and buff with a duster.

You can do the same with baby oil. Put a little on a cloth and wipe over, then buff with a duster.

Makes it easier to clean next time too.

Obviously don't use on a surface that has contact with food, as neither are food safe, but great on stainless hobs, dishwasher and fridge fronts and stainless steel cooker splashbacks and extractor hoods.

BuzzardBird. I have the same problem. I used to put them in the dishwasher but DP complains that they could get ruined. I just use a washing up brush and a large blob of washing up liquid.

A couple of times a year, after I've cleaned them, I use Black Grate Polish. It used to be called Zebo which I use, as I still have some, but this is no longer available and this is now supposedly the same stuff.

The best way to get mould off the bath seal is the use cotton wool. Get one of the long cotton wool concertina things and cut off a slice down end so you have a long thin concertina. Soak in bleach (toilet bleach will do) and place on the seal. Leave for a couple of hours then remove and rinse.

I find this gets all the mould rather than the spray. It's also stronger. You can put the cotton wool down then saturate with bleach after, whichever you find easiest.

Now I must get to work my house is a tip!

cuggles · 08/04/2014 12:31

It was me nom with the gas hobs...thanks!!

Snatchoo · 08/04/2014 12:31

If you find you have stale ends if bread, or no one will eat them Hmm then blitz in a blender ( or grate if you don't have one) and freeze. Breadcrumbs don't stick together so when you need them, you can just grab a handful and use straight out the freezer. This is particularly good for ends of French bread.
