  1. Have smeared the twins' cradle cap liberally with rapeseed oil, left, combed through, left Dentinox on in the bath for ten mins, rinsed through, and it all came off in big satisfying clumps. I got a bizarre amount of pleasure from this.
  1. I bit the bullet and got Plumbs round to reupholster my awkwardly shaped sofa and it's gorgeous! And the covers are just about less tricky to take on and off than a sleeping bag is to put back in its bag IYKWIM and they're machine washable. I, embarrassingly, may have punched the air. I need to get out more.
  1. Storing complete bedding sets inside one of the pillow cases has led to uncrumpled sheets and duvets that MATCH.
  1. Tomatoes out of the fridge are sweet and juicy.

I is DELIGHTED with the MN service. Please continue revolutionising my life Smile.

If you hate cleaning, can't afford a cleaner, but do have some spare cash at times, employ someone for a one-off four hours once a year to remind you what your house should look like.

joanofarchitrave · 07/04/2014 23:37

And I'd love a reupholstery PM as well please stinking :)

150g self raising flour
125ml plain yogurt

= instant pizza dough

Jif / cream cleaner is the best thing for roasting pans and oven doors. I use an own brand one that's 35p. For roasting pans, one squirt, hot water and soak for 10 mins. For really stubborn crusty bits just squirt neat cleaner and soak.

I use brasso on sticky labels and foil to line the top of cupboards.

Salad bags or freshly washed leaves will last for ages if you put them in zip locked bags. I get mine from Poundland.

silverten · 08/04/2014 02:30

Ooh ooh ooh

Lining tops of cupboards; greaseproof paper.

HomeBargains sell really cheap stuff which is useless for baking

MummyAbroad · 08/04/2014 03:44

make fanning an open fire or a barbeque easier by using a hand held battery operated fan or a hairdryer.

Everything you can do with a dishwasher tablet you can do with baking soda.

If you have lots of people to buy Christmas presents for, spread the cost and hassle by buying them 2 gifts on their birthday and putting one of them away for Christmas. This also tends to result in a more thoughtful gift while you're properly thinking about then rather than a crappy panic buy! And when December comes round, voila, shopping is all done (except for the pesky December birthdays!).

JollyGolightly · 08/04/2014 05:22

I'm doing my presents that way this year! After a really rubbish stressful run up to.last xmas.

Mine are; tea tree oil instead of fabric conditioner in the wash.

Spray cleaner; one third vinegar to water, 12 drops of tea tree oil and the same of lavender (optional) in a clean spray bottle. It's child and pet safe, cheap and eco.

Poke a pin through tulip stems, near the top (then take out again!). They won't droop.

A teaspoon of sugar in the water makes sweet peas last longer.

Chop herbs in a cup with scissors.

Cut all food for children with.scissors. That's a MN one.

CheerfulYank · 08/04/2014 05:39

I love these!

gordonpym · 08/04/2014 06:10

Sometimes sport clothes smell very bad even right out of the washing machine. To get rid of the smell, soak them in white vinegar for an hour, then rinse and wash as usual.

To get whites white again place bio powder inside the drum ! I did this and was so pleased with the result however dd1 appears to be rather allergic to bio powder so have tried with non bio again inside the drum and I am still happy :)

QwertyBird · 08/04/2014 07:18

I clean the oven with washing powder rather than dishwashing tablet! Looks like new. I put hot water and washing powder in the bath (sink is too small!) And soak the racks while cleaning the rest.

Another one that favours the kitchen scissors - I cut up chicken thighs / breasts etc this way too.

stinkingbishop · 08/04/2014 07:42

I am trying the spring onion thing as we speak. This is going to be brilliant.

I buy those living herb pots and stand them in a bowl of water that I keep topped up. They keep growing too. I've got basil on the go that I bought over 6 months ago!

RollerCola · 08/04/2014 09:18

Does anyone have any tips for cleaning the powder drawer of the washing machine? Mine is disgusting. I've tried scrubbing with a toothbrush but it's really hard to get to and there is still disgusting black gunk stuck in the water holes.

Koothrapanties · 08/04/2014 09:45

Goothbrush?! Toothbrush even.

RachelWatts · 08/04/2014 09:47

Envelope vests go down? How can I have had 2 children and not realised this?

Koothrapanties · 08/04/2014 09:47

Issima put a cloth with essential oil on inside your Hoover. When you use it it will give off a lovely fresh smell. Also sprinkle carpets with bicarb and brush in before you Hoover to get rid of any odours.

Issimma the hoover tip is good, or rub a drop of essential oil onto all your lightbulbs, then when they come on and warm up, lovely smell wafts through house.

the apples on a drill is genius! I want to do baked apples for 20 people now!
