  1. Have smeared the twins' cradle cap liberally with rapeseed oil, left, combed through, left Dentinox on in the bath for ten mins, rinsed through, and it all came off in big satisfying clumps. I got a bizarre amount of pleasure from this.
  1. I bit the bullet and got Plumbs round to reupholster my awkwardly shaped sofa and it's gorgeous! And the covers are just about less tricky to take on and off than a sleeping bag is to put back in its bag IYKWIM and they're machine washable. I, embarrassingly, may have punched the air. I need to get out more.
  1. Storing complete bedding sets inside one of the pillow cases has led to uncrumpled sheets and duvets that MATCH.
  1. Tomatoes out of the fridge are sweet and juicy.

I is DELIGHTED with the MN service. Please continue revolutionising my life Smile.

If you have a washing machine that jitters across the room, put a rubber welcome mat type thing on the top under your counter. It deadens the noise and stops it vibrating quite so much!

Legologgo · 08/04/2014 12:34

the dashboard/fule pump one doesnt work on a Citroen ime

TobyLerone · 08/04/2014 12:37

I haven't read the whole thread, but the sunshine bleaching stains out thing excites me way more than it ought to.

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly · 08/04/2014 12:38

Roller you can pull the washing machine drawer all the way out (there's usually a button in the middle you have to press down).

Put it through the dishwasher and you're sorted.

Oh dear x posts!

If you have smelly shoes, then fill a pair of old socks with (cheap) loose tea. Put in shoes and leave overnight. Repeat after each wear. My father keeps them permenantly in his revoltingly stinky golf shoes.

Half an onion next to your bed helps keep your nose unblocked when you have a cold. Vicks on your feet helps too.

A shallow dish of vinegar helps absorb nasty scents from the air after for instance a party with smokers (DH and his bloody poker nights which involve cigars!) or after cooking. Place a slice of white bread in your fridge to get rid of smells.

These are great! I'm going to try the hair lightening with vit c as well as several others.

My contribution is: if you spill nail polish on a non-porous surface (eg tiles, upvc, glass), neat perfume removes it more effectively than nail varnish remover. It doesn't work on fabrics or grout though.

summertimeandthelivingiseasy · 08/04/2014 13:22

When you have finally got your oven clean, then wipe round it with a paste of bicarb and it will be easier to clean next time.

My grandmother used to do this and I used to think Hmm at her smeary oven, but it does work, even on my oven, which I clean....eventually :D

Off to soak my beloved shrunken jumper in hair conditioner.

notapizzaeater · 08/04/2014 13:32

The spring onions - I keep about 1 inch of water in and top up.

I sometimes boil a pan of water with orange peel and a cinnamon stick in - makes the house smell lovely. (Can add cloves, ginger etc - anything that smells nice and is strong)

TossedSaladsAndScrambledEggs · 08/04/2014 13:35

Mommybird, are they the effervescent vitamin c tablets, or the ones you swallow?

TossedSaladsAndScrambledEggs · 08/04/2014 13:38

Microwave white/cheese sauce is minging! Plus, why bother when it is so easy to make with the normal method?! Don't get that one! Smile

CountessOfRule · 08/04/2014 13:41

Because it means you can have macaroni cheese in ten minutes flat with no washing-up?

tethersend · 08/04/2014 13:53

I agree, Tossed- I can make (nice, lump free) cheese sauce in minutes with a pan and a whisk.

TossedSaladsAndScrambledEggs · 08/04/2014 13:55

Light hearted - cling film on top of cupboards works too...

And cling film over the toilet bowl provides endless mirth.

moonbells · 08/04/2014 13:55

I think the vit C hair tip only works on dyed hair, sadly.

I use harpic limescale buster loo cleaner to remove watermarks/scale off bathroom tiles and the shower screen. Nothing else touches it (and even then it takes leaving it an hour or so in our chalk area). Just have to rinse everything well, open windows and wear rubber gloves.

TossedSaladsAndScrambledEggs · 08/04/2014 13:58

My microwave sauce was flouryand lumpy, it never is when I make it on the hob, and I am really not a very skilled cook!

TossedSaladsAndScrambledEggs · 08/04/2014 13:59

It is surely the difference between washing up a bowl and a spoon, vs a pan and a spoon?!

The only time I tried it was when I was using all the rings on thehob, but don't think I'll bother again!

tethersend · 08/04/2014 14:02

Cover your cheese sauce with cling film pressed onto the surface and it won't develop a skin if you need to leave it a while.

BuzzardBird · 08/04/2014 14:02

I have a really good product for sauce making (sweet or savoury) it's not money saving but it is sauce saving if you tend to get lumpy gravy or white sauce. McDougalls thickener, it is ace and quick and lazy.

LokiDokey · 08/04/2014 14:06

Cover your cheese sauce with cling film pressed onto the surface and it won't develop a skin if you need to leave it a while.

This also works for Custard when making trifle Grin

Somepercentagenotcool · 08/04/2014 14:19

or rub a drop of essential oil onto all your lightbulbs, then when they come on and warm up, lovely smell wafts through house.

OMG that is genius - does it really work?

CountessOfRule · 08/04/2014 14:22

Ah well my microwave sauce is smooth and cooked (so doesn't taste of raw flour) and resulted in a saucy jug that goes in the dishwasher, rather than a saucy pan which doesn't.

Another benefit is that you can ignore it for the phone ringing, door knocking, children killing each other, baby needing a nappy change, etc etc etc without its burning.

MrsYoungSalvoMontalbano · 08/04/2014 14:35

Loving these! best tip I got from MN was that Vic clears up fungal toenails like magic - no-one knows how, but it really works

SunnyRandall · 08/04/2014 14:36

I love microwave white/cheese sauce. A jug seems like much less washing up than a pan Confused

Our house is tiny and I have no space if I need to soak dirty clothes in a bucket or bowl.. So I wet the clothes and have a scrub at the stain in the sink. Then put them in the washing machine with detergent, let the machine fill, wait for the drum to turn a few times then switch it off. Sealed soak zone. Then leave it for however long it needs, turn back on, drain then set to usual cycle with more detergent.

CinnabarRed · 08/04/2014 14:38

I really don't get the thing about kitchen tops - why line them with anything? Why wipe them? Why not just ignore them like normal people?
