  1. Have smeared the twins' cradle cap liberally with rapeseed oil, left, combed through, left Dentinox on in the bath for ten mins, rinsed through, and it all came off in big satisfying clumps. I got a bizarre amount of pleasure from this.
  1. I bit the bullet and got Plumbs round to reupholster my awkwardly shaped sofa and it's gorgeous! And the covers are just about less tricky to take on and off than a sleeping bag is to put back in its bag IYKWIM and they're machine washable. I, embarrassingly, may have punched the air. I need to get out more.
  1. Storing complete bedding sets inside one of the pillow cases has led to uncrumpled sheets and duvets that MATCH.
  1. Tomatoes out of the fridge are sweet and juicy.

I is DELIGHTED with the MN service. Please continue revolutionising my life Smile.

Loving this thread. My tips are:

If you are polishing shoes (my DCs' school shoes get really scuffed) put an old sock on your hand and then put that hand inside the shoe. It holds the shoe perfectly and your hand stays clean.

If your celery is looking a little wilted (mine languishes in the salad drawer for too long sometimes) cut a slice off the bottom then stand it in a pint glass of water. It quickly perks up.

I love the suede idea. I loathe peeling them and am sure I'm going to slice my hand off one day doing it.

Butternut squash too - just wash it and roast the slices whole. You can eat the skin! Actually I roasted a whole squash (skin on) once in the oven with the chicken. Then used slices for a side and the rest of soup.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 07/04/2014 21:30

When I open a bag of frozen peas or oven chips I cut the bag completely open and use the plastic strip to tie the bag closed.

aufweidersehenpet · 07/04/2014 21:32

To keep your roast chicken moist: cut a lemon in quarters (lengthways) and put inside the cavity before roasting. Also to stop the meat drying out roast the chicken breast side down in the roasting tin.

If you only use half a bag of salad, empty the remaining salad into a bowl and place damp kitchen roll over the top. The salad remains fresh overnight. SmileSmile

When you eat hotdogs in rolls, slice through the top of the roll rather than horizontally. The hotdogs remain secure in the top of the bread. SmileSmile

Re hair in drains, stop it going down in the first place - scrunch some tissue in your hand and sweep round the plug hole - tissue grips any hairs, and makes the transfer to the bin much less icky.

Koothrapanties · 07/04/2014 21:47

Olive oil and lemon juice makes a really good furniture polish. The lemon removes any grease and the oil gives a lovely shine. Add essential oil if you want a nice fragrance.

babybythesea · 07/04/2014 21:50

I love the rejuvenating celery idea. And am going to give the hair remover down the plug hole a go. And the dishwasher tablet on the oven door. Does it have to be a glass door though? Mine isn't, but it is disgusting and a nightmare to clean.
We definitely need this thread moved to a non-vanishing topic.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 07/04/2014 22:12

Hello all,
we have received your requests that this be moved to Classics, thanks. I need to know... WILL IT STREAMLINE MY LIFE?

whojamaflip · 07/04/2014 22:13

Use half a lemon to make taps proper shiny...

Cut lemon in half, rub all over the taps. Leave for a couple of minutes then rinse off with water. Dry and buff up with kitchen roll and hay presto - clean mark free taps Smile

Also brings stainless sinks up a treat too.

Also anyone have any good tips for cleaning blinds ? Am I missing a really easy way to clean them ?

Mrswellyboot · 07/04/2014 22:26

Mrs most, I just use a baby wipe. It is tiresome but really cleans them

stinkingbishop · 07/04/2014 22:31

Wow. Have been out and come back and there's about 10m posts of GENIUS and it's going to be a Classic. I can die happy. And read properly tomorrow when I have a sec.

I think I've PMed everyone who asked about the sofa. If I haven't, PM me and I'll ping you back.

Or, MN people, can I just post publicly? Was just worried it might look like a sofa commercial!

I sooooo should have asked them for some member get member discount or something for my future reupholstering needs. I might start reupholstering random items. DP is looking a bit frayed...

Thanks stinking

Mrswellyboot that's what I do at the mo and it's a of pain isn't it I just wondered if I was missing a trick or two

BethCalavicci · 07/04/2014 22:39

If you've got kids who love to stick to stickers everywhere and then find that they won't come off Hmm mayonnaise is your friend.
There was a sticker stuck to the laminate floor that was welded on and refused to come off, but I smeared it with a huge dollop of mayonnaise and left it for between half an hour and an hour.
Then you just go and wash/scrub it and it comes off! Hmm
Works perfectly. (Think I picked that gem up from Kim and Aggie, and it definitely works!)

BonzoDooDah · 07/04/2014 22:55

BethCal - mightn't the oil in the mayo stain the surface if you're not careful?

ArtFine · 07/04/2014 22:56

Wow this is a genius thread!

Love the waffles in toaster idea and microwave white sauce

UnicornsAreMerelyExtinct · 07/04/2014 23:00

Mrsmost, cleaning blinds - damp socks on your hands Wink

wiltingfast · 07/04/2014 23:01

Was there a tip before about putting essential oils in your wash or something to make it smell nice? Am intruiged and would love details!

Feartheescalator · 07/04/2014 23:10

Baby wipes leave dirty patent shoes as good as new

Woodenheart · 07/04/2014 23:12

Me Me Me !

Put a layer of newspaper on top of kitchen cupboards,

change it every few years months, no need to clean/dust/wipe the tops anymore.

Lightheartedindeed · 07/04/2014 23:13

Brilliant thread! Feel rather motivated to start the spring cleaning.

In return; a small dollop of shower gel rubbed completely into a bathroom mirror prevents it from steaming up.

Manchesterhistorygirl · 07/04/2014 23:23

Marking place and coming back tomorrow.

BonzoDooDah · 07/04/2014 23:26

I put a drop of Lavender oil into the water bit of the iron, just before I fill it with water. Then the oil gently scents the laundry. I don't use fabric conditioner as all my family has allergies / eczema but this makes things smell nice. You could use any other scented oil you liked.

notapizzaeater · 07/04/2014 23:28

Spring onions, chop the green off the top into salads and put the bulb bit (the onion) in water on you your windowsill. The green regrows any regrows ands regrows, just change the water ever week or so. One bunch lasts me months.
