flies swarming at window, no answer door, house chock full of rubbish

that's just it really. Elderly-ish lady living a few doors down, no family nearby, hasn't put her rubbish out this week and no light on this evening.
Am I just being the worst curtain-twitcher ever or is thia actually very concerning? I got the shivers seeing all those flies. Do you think I should ring the council in the morning and see of there's someone who could pop round and check she's ok? I don't think o could cope if it turned out she was suffering in any way and I ignored her. However, perhaps she just likes living in a crap tip? oh dear, what should I do? (off for a fret)

ImABadGirl · 09/01/2014 23:50

OP I work in the funeral business and you would be surprised how many people die at home and are not noticed for weeks sometimes months, well done for noticing and acting upon your suspicions, lets hope the lady is ok

santasballsack · 09/01/2014 23:52

Hope shes ok. Well done OP wish more people had neighbours that care.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 09/01/2014 23:54

Hope all is well, OP.

caketinrosie · 09/01/2014 23:55

valiant my colleagues would have been delighted to be met by soapy haired temptress! you probably made their night Grin every time I've had that type of call I've ended up breaking in usually through the back door panel where I end up crawling on my hands and knees through cat poo then have to wander through the house with just a tiny torch free from the garage cos the leccys gone off. I end up checking every room because I am an officer in blue brave and true shitting my pants and they're always on holiday or in a nursing home and the family get all cross cos I've knackered the door and lost the cat Shock sorry not really much so fingers crossed it ends up like that tonight Smile

DefiniteMaybe · 09/01/2014 23:56

I hope she's ok. My dp's uncle died in his bed and nobody noticed for at least 3 weeks, it has left scars in the family. It's a horrible thought that his neighbours ignored the signals for so long.

CointreauVersial · 09/01/2014 23:56

You cannot possibly be wasting police time, even if she is OK. You have done what any concerned neighbour should do. I hope she is alright.

pud1 · 09/01/2014 23:56

Hope she is well op.

My fil died and was not found for 5 days. We would have checked on him along with Bil every day or so but we had been away and Bil was working away for a few days. When we found him it upset me that his neighbours said that they had noticed that he had not been seen for a few days.

ChubbyKitty · 09/01/2014 23:59

Hope she's okay OP, well done you for calling. Sad

Just been put in the ambulance and taken to hospital- the police just came round to let me know. They're going to refer her to social services for support as it is clear she has not been coping. Thank goodness! Am exhausted but so relieved, phew. Thank you again everyone Smile
