Yes, I agree they could have said that or even made a cash donation to one of the relevant charities.

The amount of entitled claptrap being posted on their FB page is ridiculous.

DziezkoDisco · 10/01/2014 07:40

Oh they are proper fugs. But my MIL has one, check out with your local old folks home, someone might love one.

M&S have form for this - and how to get them to honour the sale price

ziggiestardust · 10/01/2014 08:12

honey I think that is why people are getting pissed off. No one is entitled to a 50p chair, but the email irked me to be honest, and so did their 'party line' on Facebook. Have a bit of a human touch; 'we're sorry, we'll donate some chairs to a charity/give a donation...' Because they haven't done that (which would disarm anyone who said 'but I want my chair' as people would have condemned them for selfish behaviour), people are playing the same game back to them.

Piss people off with bad customer service, and people will get all anal and technical about it .

I only think I finally got my duplicate payment back because I called during the chair fall out ... Till then they weren't interested.

I find that when it's a system error they blame the system, rather than just say sorry. I know to them it's a paltry £2.80, but they took my money twice. They could've pretended to care. It's not hard Grin

mileysorearse · 10/01/2014 08:35

And £90 for a christmas tree that Sainsburys were doing for about £40, then reduced weeks before the M&S reductions. Their pricing is unrealistic and the quality has gone down.

Rooners · 10/01/2014 09:22

I really detest M&S customer service. I had a double mattress delivered four or five times, the same one - it kept being left outside my front door, sometimes in the rain, when I was out.

I told them so many times I didn't actually want the thing, but they wouldn't listen.

Then I had to keep it in my house for up to two weeks each time till they sent someone to collect it. (if it got rained on/damaged in my care, I'd be liable) It cost me a fortune in phone calls. There was clearly no communication in the system.

They also sent some school uniform to my old address once, by defaulting to an ancient delivery address still stored on the website. There was no tracking, they could not help.

That was fun too.

But I still wouldn't join in the campaign about something like this because that would make me a twat.

Rooners · 10/01/2014 09:25

Oh and last year we ordered some stuff from their big food shop, for my Granny's funeral - collected it the day before only to find that the use by date was the actual day of the funeral, so it was lucky we didn't order them two days in advance.

Really useless. And they were on these rubbish plastic trays with the lids coming off so it was very hard to transport them at all. I won't be using that service again.

LittleThorinOakenshield · 10/01/2014 09:28

I complained about the golden Italian meat platter I had for Christmas because it was tiny and cost 20 quid. They offered a refund if I went in the store but I can't be bothered so I left it but I've just sent another whingey email to them about it.

Made me feel good.

Won't order Christmas food again, it was a right rip off and nearly caused a divorce in my house DP Moaned so much about it.

I was due that chair.

DowntonTrout · 10/01/2014 09:28

Oh I'm late to the party!

Was busy yesterday and missed my recliner decliner email. So sad Sad

Hoping if I'm sad enough the Daily Mail will want a photo of my sad face.

-Am actually very relieved that I will not be taking delivery of the fugly chairs in rose_

DowntonTrout · 10/01/2014 09:28

Strike through fail.

LittleThorinOakenshield · 10/01/2014 09:29

I want a chair made of chorizo.

DowntonTrout · 10/01/2014 09:33

A Chairitzo?

That would be interesting.

DowntonTrout · 10/01/2014 09:35

Don't know where that "t" came from.

A Chairizo.

Anyway, farewell to the Richmond Revillo Recliner in Rose. It was fun while it lasted.

We could have been so good together....

LittleThorinOakenshield · 10/01/2014 09:37

Grin It was fun. And a large part of me is glad it will never arrive.

CloserLook · 10/01/2014 10:13

It was fun when it lasted and I never really expected to get a couple of 50p chairs delivered. I'm just relieved I didn't have to have an awkward phone call about the delivery. Grin

I'm still a bit annoyed at M&S though. As has been said above they could have turned this into a bit of decent publicity with just a few chairs donated to some nursing homes. Instead they chose to send a short and slightly patronising cancellation email and then try to pretend the whole thing had never happened. Very odd reaction.

TimeToPassGo · 10/01/2014 10:28

I wanted my chair but I didn't expect it. I agree with the above that they have handled it badly. I would have preferred a more tongue in cheek email (a kind of ha ha nice try Wink ) and either a chair or cash donation to charity. A free delivery voucher wouldn't have gone amiss either.

TimeToPassGo · 10/01/2014 10:29

But definitely fun ladied Grin

ziggiestardust · 10/01/2014 10:33

Oh, I don't want this thread to end Sad it has given me such a good laugh, and it's been a lovely mix of people all the way through!

DowntonTrout · 10/01/2014 10:36

I am also sad for the people who said they really did want my chairs if they were delivered. Sorry I can't pass them on to you Sad

Will The Recliner Decliner will be added to the Mumsnet Dictionary for posterity?

clio51 · 10/01/2014 10:40

Re the chair saga

Has anybody actually received one yet?

DowntonTrout · 10/01/2014 10:41
