Litter of kittens found..paging experts please!

Whilst out and about this afternoon I have found a litter of six kittens in a clump of ivy in the garden of a derelict house.

I estimate them to be about 2 - 2 1/2 weeks old. Their eyes are all open and they look in good shape, other than being totally filthy and riddled with fleas.

Being the soft stupid sod devoted cat lover I am I sat in the garden for three hours at a discreet distance from the nest and waited for the mother to return. Nada. So I packed them into my rucksack, brought them home via the vet (who kindly checked them over), gave them a bath (they were black-bright and stank of urine) and settled them in a box with a hot water bottle / towel.

I have kitten formula from the vet and have fed them about 3-4ml each from a syringe. They all fed well and promptly piddled all over me, which was encouraging, if a bit grim-smelling.

I know to feed them about that much every two hours, to rub their bellies to stimulate their bowels, to keep them warm etc etc. Is there anything else I need to do?

Yours, in anticipation of precious little sleep over the next few weeks,

C

Then, the two silver tabbies are quite different but it doesn't really show in the pic: one of them has white paws and a white spot on her breast. She (or he, not sure yet) is a bit bigger than the other one too.

They are adorable

What a lovely lady you are

Cailleach · 24/11/2013 00:33

Thanks Ood :)

Totally forgot to put my other cats on there so will do so now. One is an old kitten pic mind...the white one is much bigger now!

They are all so cute. Wish I could snuggle them.

Interesting to see the photo of Grey Baby feeding and to recall the problems you had with her. Looking at that slightly raised paw, I think she wants to knead while she's sucking - you might have had an easier time with her if you'd semi-reclined and allowed her to sprawl across your chest with the bottle (with some resistance (in the shape of a towel, say) to allow those paws to work.)

Next time you find a bunch of kittens in the hedge, you can try it out.

Hehe, the squeaky mews (which just melt me) started one of our cats off meowing Grin

You're doing a grand job Cailleach Smile

Cozie trust me, I was nearly standing on my head trying to get this one to feed! I must have tried every trick in the book... I think she was just so poorly she had no appetite, basically. Now she's hungry again, she's OK.

Agent all caffeinated beverages gratefully received, thanks!

belle the brown tabby one is particularly partial to ear-rubs... it's adorable!

Right ladies, having delivered pics as promised I am off to do the last feed of the evening (slightly late) and then turn in for bed.

Night!

cozie my ferals are doing really well, eating food and biscuits using the litter tray lucy is getting very person orientated she came and sat next to me on the sofa without being plonked there today, the boy leo is still not coming to me but i can pick him up and snuggle him without the claws coming out, and they are great fun to watch them playing with the mouse on a stick, ping pong balls, cat nip mice etc

Actually the lady in the beige stripy top in the vid is CailleachMa...so no, grey baby is a total cuddle-tart and will go to anyone for some love!

They are coming along well....all are weaning now, which means less work for me cleaning bottles out etc etc.

Watching them toddle around our bedroom is hilarious - little legs going ten to the dozen and bouncing around like tiny spring lambs.

Blessums! I had better win the lottery this week, I want to keep them all...
