Litter of kittens found..paging experts please!

Whilst out and about this afternoon I have found a litter of six kittens in a clump of ivy in the garden of a derelict house.

I estimate them to be about 2 - 2 1/2 weeks old. Their eyes are all open and they look in good shape, other than being totally filthy and riddled with fleas.

Being the soft stupid sod devoted cat lover I am I sat in the garden for three hours at a discreet distance from the nest and waited for the mother to return. Nada. So I packed them into my rucksack, brought them home via the vet (who kindly checked them over), gave them a bath (they were black-bright and stank of urine) and settled them in a box with a hot water bottle / towel.

I have kitten formula from the vet and have fed them about 3-4ml each from a syringe. They all fed well and promptly piddled all over me, which was encouraging, if a bit grim-smelling.

I know to feed them about that much every two hours, to rub their bellies to stimulate their bowels, to keep them warm etc etc. Is there anything else I need to do?

Yours, in anticipation of precious little sleep over the next few weeks,

C

I can see a picture of Minx on your profile though, so it looks like you got there in the end! Aww, she looks so happy - is that the bed I made for her?

Yes, that's your bed Smile I was trying to upload another one where you can see the whole bed, for scale, but you can see her face at least! She seems to us to have grown a lot in a week anyway

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 05/01/2014 19:36

Aha - I've got 2nd pic up, hurrah! (I tried a 3rd but it all went wrong again so I gave up Grin)

Anyway you can see her in her pretty bed now!

She's gorgeous, and has such beautiful markings. It looks as though she's settling in well!

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 05/01/2014 21:46

Thank you Smile She does seem well settled & we love having her!

cozietoesie · 05/01/2014 23:02

Now isn't she the pretty one!

Well done for fathoming out the pictures, TheOne.

Smile

Thanks, cozie Smile

It's still not right though - I just added another & it overwrote pic 2 so now I have pic 3 twice! Confused

I have just sat and read this thread from start to finish and then my 18 month old cat walked in and scared me half to death. She looks enormous compared to your kitten photos!

Well done on search an amazing outcome. I did shed a tear when you lost one but tbh I think we thought you might lose two when the other was poorly.

I would have taken Fudge in but DH has already said no to another anything never mind another kitten Sad.

WakeyTryingAgain · 08/01/2014 09:12

Have you managed to find a home for fudge yet? I live down south otherwise I'd definitely take her, I think she's gorgeous!

Cailleach · 08/01/2014 18:20

Hi there,

No not yet, Wakey... am trying though! She's lovely, she deserves a very special home, but because she's black it's harder to rehome her.

:(

She is beautiful, and so lively and friendly.

Toffee - glad you enjoyed the thread - it's been a rollercoaster ride but well worth it :)

Aw, I wish I could have her, I'm in Yorkshire and I love black cats, but my current black cat mustn't be stressed by any upheaval of any sort due to his illness, plus financially we are currently struggling. I hope you find a good home for her and if I hear of anyone looking, I'll let you know Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 09/01/2014 22:13

A friend of a friend is looking for a kitten, she's on holiday at the moment, but will speak to her when she gets back if Fudge is still available. Whereabouts are you?

Cailleach · 10/01/2014 17:06

Hi Kazza, I'm between Doncaster and Rotherham... Fudge is still available, it would be lovely if we could find her a new home! Let me know if she's interested.

Any news?

kazzawazzawoo · 17/01/2014 20:45

I've not heard anything yet. I don't know if my friend's friend is back. Will try and find out.

ThePearShapedToad · 04/02/2014 23:18
