Litter of kittens found..paging experts please!

Whilst out and about this afternoon I have found a litter of six kittens in a clump of ivy in the garden of a derelict house.

I estimate them to be about 2 - 2 1/2 weeks old. Their eyes are all open and they look in good shape, other than being totally filthy and riddled with fleas.

Being the soft stupid sod devoted cat lover I am I sat in the garden for three hours at a discreet distance from the nest and waited for the mother to return. Nada. So I packed them into my rucksack, brought them home via the vet (who kindly checked them over), gave them a bath (they were black-bright and stank of urine) and settled them in a box with a hot water bottle / towel.

I have kitten formula from the vet and have fed them about 3-4ml each from a syringe. They all fed well and promptly piddled all over me, which was encouraging, if a bit grim-smelling.

I know to feed them about that much every two hours, to rub their bellies to stimulate their bowels, to keep them warm etc etc. Is there anything else I need to do?

Yours, in anticipation of precious little sleep over the next few weeks,

C

Aww poor little one. They're all so gorgeous. Hope they continue to do well.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 20/11/2013 13:12

It's great that they're all doing so well. Smile

Cozie I tried silver tabby with a bit of milk mixed with meaty mush on a teaspoon just now and she is gradually getting the idea of this "solids" business.

Grey baby has no clue but she's a bit behind now, development-wise, so there is no rush to wean her, milk is OK for now. She fed really well at her last feed!

Silver tabby will likely suddenly 'get it' all in a rush. They're developing so quickly at this age - feeding her some on a fingertip is always good.

And yes - no rush with grey baby. Just to get the food down her is a bit of a victory for the wee stick.

You're doing so well.

I'd love to see updated pics sometime as they change so much at this age. I want more cats but I think three is my limit for now.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 20/11/2013 15:03

Me too, catameringue (great name btw) Smile

I want to see the little black football (I have a big black football. She's not fat or greedy, just round!)

timtam23 · 20/11/2013 20:33

I was going to ask for updated pics as well! Grin (When you have a spare moment of course, Cailleach!)

Cailleach · 21/11/2013 00:10

Unfortunately neither the bloke nor I can take pics: basic mobile phones with no cameras and digital camera is bust :( Sorry folks, I am as frustrated as you by this as I would like more pics myself.

When my mum next comes to see them she has promised to bring her camera and take proper pics. Hopefully that will be some time next week.

Hi folks,

Quick kitten update: all are doing very well, even grey baby. Cannot believe she was so ill just a week ago!

CallilleachMa came over today and we took lots of pics: she is tired and not too well so she has only sent one of them to me tonight. It's of Grey Baby and it's on my profile if you'd like a peek.

More pics to follow!

Poor CailleachMa - send her our regards.

Love the photo of Grey Baby. I note that adoring look upwards! Surprised you haven't named her yet as she's clearly staying.

Smile
Fluffycloudland77 · 23/11/2013 20:11

She luffs you.

Keep them all, you will have 5 cats who adore you.

Pinot kept hers, I remember her dh thought for a moment they were being rehomed.

Cailleach · 23/11/2013 20:22

Actually Cozie, I think we may be keeping the little grey one. You all knew that was going to happen, right? ;)

Fluffy as tempting as that is, 7 cats and 4 people in a small terraced house just won't go!

As for names, only two have acquired nicknames: Farah and Minx (the brown tabby.) The others are yet to suggest names for themselves..

Lovely pic Cailleach. Glad to hear they are all doing so well. So pleased that you will be keeping grey baby Smile

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 23/11/2013 22:04

The grey one is adorable, no wonder she's a keeper!

Cailleach · 23/11/2013 23:33

Right folks, all pics are now in from CailleachMa: I have made an album of them here:

Cailleach Kittens

I have vids as well and will try to get them onto YouTube tomorrow, when I am less cream-crackered.

If they are all as adorable as grey baby, then id find it so hard to give them away, but neither could I house all of them so I feel for you. Glad grey is staying though!

I couldn't see anything on the album link but looking forward to snooping on kitty photos soon.

Cailleach · 24/11/2013 00:04

OK not sure why that isn't working... will check it out in a mo, YouTube video is here:

ThenSheSaid · 24/11/2013 00:21

Those kittens are sooooooo adorable! I used one of the pictures as my new screen saver. Grin Super cute.

Two of the kittens almost look identical?

I think this has to be my favourite thread for quite a while.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks for the OP.

ThenSheSaid · 24/11/2013 00:23

I just watched the vid, could those kittens be any cuter!
