To pelt my cakes at this mum's head in the playground this afternoon? <fume>

The school are having a cake sale tomorrow and have BEGGED for donations of cakes. They have been Facebooking about how desperate they are all week as they want to make a dent in the £12,000 target needed for some new play equipment in the playground. One might think that flogging cakes at 30 pee each is not the way to make a dent but that's another thing...

I am pushed for time this week but I thought I could do some cornflake easter nests with some mini eggs on top as a quick alternative to baking and frosting two dozen fairy cakes. So I went out and bought the stuff (which I reckon cost more than they will get from the sales tbh) Then I replied to one of the FB begging messages saying "I will bring some cornflake easter nests tomorrow, will have about 40" Then one of the PTA wimmin replied "Ha ha! That's great but be prepared to take most of them home as they don't sell as well as real cakes."

Fuck. You. Bitch.

:(

thatsalovelyhat · 27/03/2013 15:48

La la la, marking time till Marmalade or Lemon Drizzle gives us an update. Where I live there is a parenting group with frequent tea group meetings full of genuinely lovely people. There is a Christmas party and a summer party. But there is a stern warning in the newsletter in advance that you should please not even consider for a moment bringing mince pies or Mr Kipling cakes because the children (yeah right) do not like them and they do not get eaten. So patronising and off-putting.

And here www.twistedtwee.co.uk is some good stuff.

GreenEggsAndNichts · 27/03/2013 15:49

I seriously want lemon drizzle cake now. Envy

TobyLerone · 27/03/2013 15:51

Cake sales are fucking disgusting.

NigellaTufnel · 27/03/2013 15:51

I have just eaten three chocolate crispie egg nests from DS's Pre school.
They were bloody lovely

SugariceisaGoodEgg · 27/03/2013 15:52

Marmalade's been beaten to death with a whisk then wrapped up in the maxi skirt and disposed of by lemon drizzle woman!

OzmaofOz · 27/03/2013 15:52

I really want chocolate cornflakes cakes now.

EggsitPursuedByAChocolateBunny · 27/03/2013 15:54

I too am craving chocolate cornflake cakes.

anotheryearolder · 27/03/2013 15:57

I have to agreeToby Norovirus sprinkles ??Envy

SummerRainIsADistantMemory · 27/03/2013 16:02

When we do a cake sale we hold it at the church and flog massively overpriced (usually shop bought) cakes to the elderly mass goers.

We make fortunes!

As for the crispy cake vs fairy cake debate.... Having conducted extensive research on small people at parties I can verify that the plate of crispies is always demolished before the first fairy cake leaves the table. I've tried tipping things in favour of the fairy cakes by covering them in luminous icing and sprinkles but the plain as day crispies still get devoured first.

GreenEggsAndNichts · 27/03/2013 16:02

hah Toby agree. I actually attend cake sales when I know a friend of mine has baked for it, because I love her cakes. I love my cakes as well (I would, I suppose!) but this way I'm contributing AND I know I'm going to get a very good cake in return.

Also, when I make my lemon drizzle cake (and I will, damn this thread), it's going to be properly soaked in syrup and have a ton of glaze on it. Because I'm a child when it comes to icing. :)

MyNameIsAnAnagram · 27/03/2013 16:05

Lemondrizzlelady, if you are reading, please please please make a marmalade cake for the bake sale this year Grin

littlemissbunny · 27/03/2013 16:06

Marmalade if your school didn't break up on a different day to ours I would think it was a member of our PTA saying that! I think every PTA has one!!

I'm also shamelessly marking my place

whattodoo · 27/03/2013 16:12

Oh shit. Blush my thighs are HUGE from all the lemon drizzle cake I devour.
I know in my head that I am not lemon drizzle lady, but why do I feel ever so slightly doubtful?

HorryIsUpduffed · 27/03/2013 16:12

Right, I'm making crispy cakes now and I have NFI about quantities. Anybody?

WireCatWhore · 27/03/2013 16:13

Best. Thread. Ever. Grin

anklebitersmum · 27/03/2013 16:16

Horry 200g chocolate, 50g butter, 2 tbsp golden syrup melted together. Add roughly 250g of bran or corn flakes. Grin

TobyLerone · 27/03/2013 16:19

It's just chocolate, melted, and rice krispies stirred in until you can't get any more in and coated in chocolate.

It's wrong to put golden syrup or butter in it.

Also, BRAN FLAKES? What fresh yogurt-weaving hell is this?
