One idle google and 10 minutes later dd and I have a pan full for lunch, it's lovely.

It was bad enough finding out about cleaning washing machines, and Veet to unclog hairy plug holes.... and now you failed to tell me this Angry

Well you horrible lot, what else have you being holding out on, and keeping from me?????

Jux - if you haven't tried baking soda yet, give it a go. Slather the mark with it, leave it overnight and try mopping it off with warm water.

A far better idea, however, would be to ring your contents insurance company!

Jux · 04/03/2012 22:33

I have baking soda, I use it for, um, baking! Thanks, I'll try that.

MzPixielated · 05/03/2012 12:10

hey all! been a super lurker over here, mostly because ive been too busy smashing up bananas/apples/washing machine drawers to post anything useful. im really surprised no one has mentioned the wonder that is sugar soap! i think im addicted to it, it cleans EVERYTHING! so far ive used it to scrub DS old baby walker, got the mould off the shower sealant, stains out of DS old baby clothes, pen out of my grandparents extremely porous white stone fireplace and get hair dye out of the towels! im now going to use it to scrub my eyes after looking up dragon butter :)

UmBongo · 05/03/2012 21:47

The sugar soap that is supposed to be used before decorating?

garlicbutter · 05/03/2012 23:11

Yes, sugar soap is almost as wondrous as WD40 and at least as wondrous as baking soda & vinegar. I have a tub of Astonish mega-cleaner, which is basically ready-made sugar soap. Works :)

DIY sugar soap = detergent (er, proper stuff not eco-bollox) and sugar. That's what mechanics use to clean their hands & surrounding surfaces. It's only 1 step away from gelignite, which makes it sound all the more effective in my book!

garlicbutter · 05/03/2012 23:14

I have now AMAZED family and passers-by with my apple-twisting skills. But have manually puréed several bananas ...

moonhoney · 05/03/2012 23:17

And borax - brilliant stuff.

Sees off ants, bleaches mildly, unfelts wool a bit

ViviPru · 05/03/2012 23:21

Bananasqueezing Doesn't Work.

The End.

kickassangel · 06/03/2012 12:21

HomeEco maybe you're just a really good scrubber?

garlicbutter · 06/03/2012 12:57

I think that's it, kickass! And I'm just an old soak.

SmileItsSunny · 06/03/2012 13:10

Well that'll teach me to skim read... Thought I'd check out the fire.hazard but couldn't find fluff filter on tumble dryer, but found similar panel on washing machine. It's a drain filter apparently. Cue water with black bits in all over kitchen flour. Am soaking filter piece in bowl of water with dishwasher powder. . May move on to oven soon, but am a bit scared!

SmileItsSunny · 06/03/2012 13:12

Floor, not flour. Also, banana squeezing didn't work for me either.

Quenelle · 06/03/2012 13:36

I made your soup yesterday Honeydragon. Was very nice, DH took the last of it to work today and declared it delicious. That makes three delicious meals I got out of Sunday's roast chicken.

I am confused about the banana squeezing. I thought you were all saying that if you squeezed the bottom the top opens, but it doesn't does it? I squeezed the bottom and the bottom opened - really easily too so it's my new method of banana-opening.

RalphGnu · 06/03/2012 13:38

The banana thing does work. Which end are you squeezing? If you gently squeeze the black bit at the end it comes apart.

MzPixielated · 06/03/2012 13:50

oh for gods sake you lot its really not that complicated look-> Hes wearing monkey pants too Grin

Quenelle · 06/03/2012 14:09

Yes, but the way I read it was that you squeezed the black bit at the bottom and the top opened. Now that really would be worth broadcasting whilst wearing monkey pants.

ViviPru · 06/03/2012 19:33

Oh haha. Me too. I thought the idea was you squeeze the black end and the opposite end magically opened.

nenevomito · 06/03/2012 20:22

I tried the banana thing today and was suitably impressed.

Jux · 06/03/2012 21:04

I've been annoying impressing dh and dd with my banana-squeezing skills for days. They are about to kill me give me a medal.

Shoutymomma · 06/03/2012 21:25

Free at last, free at last, thank veet almighty, I'm free at last.

HomeEcoGnomist · 06/03/2012 21:30

Ha ha kickass - possibly not the first time that observation has been made Grin

kickassangel · 07/03/2012 01:28

right - so laundry balls are bollocks, banana squeezing works for some, and eco-stuff is best left to the scrubbers & soakers in life.

what else have we learnt?

NomDePrune · 07/03/2012 08:44

Nobody tried my TePe brush plughole method?

GlitterKitty · 07/03/2012 13:10

Did you all check your scary secret tumble dryer draws?!!??!

Honeydragon · 09/03/2012 01:15

Sugar soap is wonderful stuff, but if it works on shower sealant I may weep with joy. I have a very exciting weekend to look forward to now. Grin
