I love a nice big jigsaw, me. Preferably something like a thatched cottage surrounded by flowers.

I am too embarrassed to do them at home because my 80 year old mother and inlaws who are in their 70s share my enthusiasm and I just think if any of my uber-cool London creative/media-type mates came calling and saw a bugger like that on my dining table they would think I was a very sad case and immediately drop me.

Wife of a geek - he can't resist jigsaws, sudoku puzzles, number puzzles, crosswords - mathematical problems, computer programming, plus recording his physical prowess by using a satnav thingy when he goes running/cycling and then bores me silly showing me the route, stats, heart-rate, undulation, speed, calories burned etc. etc. etc. ...........
Unfortunately the genes seem to have been passed on to daughter - DD1 studying Mechanical Engineering, loves maths, physics and is home at present playing Mario on an old NES games console - also loves F1 racing (along with her dad).

I CANNOT STAND NUMBERS OF ANY SORT - AND JIGSAWS ARE SUCH A WASTE OF TIME!!

inkyfingers · 11/01/2012 20:44

I made marmalade on Sunday. So excited about it... Blush

Carmenthebarman · 11/01/2012 20:54

I am a geocacher.

I am a morris dancer.

I go to folk festivals.

I am 34 and love my life.

Buriedundernappies · 11/01/2012 21:31

I play World of warcraft. I love playing it.
I can recite a fair few Buffy Episodes, and me and my brother regularly have conversations just using quotes from Buffy/Angel/Bones.
I'm an Eddie Stobart spotter too!
My DP also plays world of warcraft, warhammer and can take apart and build an entire PC. And can tell you what every little bit in the computer does.

Primrose123 · 11/01/2012 22:07

I think I have found my soul mates in this thread!

I love jigsaws, sewing, maths especially algebra and calculus, making cakes, reading maps, putting flat pack furniture together, languages (I speak French and German), computer games, especially Zelda, killer sudoku, papercraft, digital scrapbooking and the Waltons. I have kept a diary every day for the last 20 years.

Oh, and I make lots of lists and tend to overplan things. DH thinks I'm mad - in a good way I hope!

Hail, fellow geeks.

Anyone who has ventured into the fishnet topic of MN (yes, there is one) will know all about my geeky obsession with aquarium fish.

I am also geeky about motor racing and if you figured that out from my username then you probably are too Grin

Scuttlebutter · 12/01/2012 00:05

CMOTDibbler - that's so exciting! Like me she probably gets hugely excited about waste analyses (where you wade through tonnes of waste sampling its different constituents) or modelling waste arisings. And how romantic to meet her DH at work. No woman can be resisted in her rigger boots, hiviz jacket and hard hat - I am a goddess in mine. Grin

Scuttlebutter · 12/01/2012 00:07

And did I mention that I used to give compost clinics where I'd talk to people about carbon/nitrogen ratios until they fell asleep?

EricNorthmansFangBanger · 12/01/2012 00:44

PrancingPony · 12/01/2012 06:09

I spent yesterday evening cutting recipes out of my pile of good food magazines and sticking them into a scrap book with a proper pritstick and everything. Was feeling very proud of myself for being so organised until dp walked in and said it was the saddest thing he had ever seen.

liveinazoo · 12/01/2012 06:13

oh prancing pony i feel your pain.

inmysparetime · 12/01/2012 06:51

I keep my recipes in a flip photo album, so I don't need glue, I can flick through them easily, and the plastic photo sleeves protect the recipes from spillsSmile

gazzalw · 12/01/2012 07:09

Yes, think we have turned into the type of geeky family that I would have derided in younger years:

Lord of the Rings fans
Watch every episode of Dr Who and DW knows more about it than the DCs...
We have lots of computers
DS and DD are mega into their Lego
I like Pink Floyd
I do all the DCs 500-1000 piece jigsaw puzzles that they can't be bothered to do...
Using the word 'mega'
DW is keen on tapestries and cross-stitch....
Oh and we love watching University Challenge!

Oh dear, no marks in this house for being cool

Carmenthebarman · 12/01/2012 08:27

Oh I forgot one... I love steam trains. Have been known to stand in the rain and cold waiting for one to pass under a local bridge.

Dazr

Your DD sounds magnificent! A true woman-to-be of our times and antidote to the orange hair extended brigade.

Spent a wonderful time a few nights ago talking to a young woman (mid twenties) who had finished her masters in experimental psychology and was commencing a PHD looking into neuroplasticity. A real rocking role model.

fishandlilacs · 12/01/2012 09:21

I crochet
I have a sound knowledge of the healing properties of most herbs
An alphaebtised aromatherapy box
Love jigsaws
I adore cookery books
My copies of delicious magazine some of which are 7 yrs old are in date order on a shelf and I cannot bear to part with them.
Huge computer game fan. Skyrim anyone?

nursenic · 12/01/2012 09:23

Scuttlebutter my (and DH's) will not be complete until we have been to a compost clinic....sigh

As for your work gear....I have to be very careful in the vicinity of our allotment shed packing away the equipment when DH is around. He does so love an earth covered woman....

liveinazoo I have every copy of US 'Gourmet' and 'Bon Appetit' magazine from 2002 until a year and a half or so ago-'Gourmet' sadly no longer printed. I have them all catalogued and sticky strips indicating my favourite recipes. Have also compiled recipe/cooking books for each of our blended 5 children. Each one contains all the basic recipes, techniques, weight charts, nutritional stuff plus economy shopping guides, info on local eating (in respective uni towns)....I could happily go on...

Bossybritches22 · 12/01/2012 09:42
