Summer and Lamb - my heart aches to read this. I have just touched on this just a tiny bit losing Rosie...I feel real fear about losing Meow and Ginger, being so attached to them. They are so my babies, they won't even settle on DH anymore - it's all me me me. They crawl off the kids to get back to me and cry/mew when I'm not in the room if they wake up. As we speak, they are trying to climb up my jeans to reach me as I've had to temporarily put them in their plastic tub whilst I MN ...I am so in love with them. And already I know losing them will break my heart.

"Cats leave paw-prints on your heart" - hear, hear :)

I thank heavens for being given them in our lives!

Ah yes - the climbing up the jeans/jodphurs. I so remember that now. And then when they try it on bare legs - ouch!

I knew someone whose mother died of cat scratch fever - she had several siamese I think.

Summer - I may be in that circle of hell as my springer spaniel is often off the lead - but only far away from roads and he does have (reasonably) good recall.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 11/05/2011 17:03

Completely understand your feelings Pinot.
Many people won't agree but I don't let my cats out the front where the road is, and I'm back to back with other gardens with a large grassy access only alley in the way so they are happy going out the back.

I only let them out when I am there so they never go too long without me checking where they are. If i'm home all day (which I am a lot), then they wander in and out, they've both got bells on so I can hear where they are. I do this because I want to keep them alive for a long time, and not because I want to curtail their freedom. My old moggy doesn't leave the garden anyway but my three-legged youngster had such a bad start in life that I couldn't bear it if anything happened to her, and although she's dexterous enough, she does fall off things and get stuck a lot, so I'm nervous about her getting stuck somewhere. My cats are both happy cats, and I think since the three-legger was chased back into the garden by the neighborhood bruiser cat she's a bit more nervous about jumping the fence now. I would much rather my cats stay alive till a ripe old age rather than have them run over.

I and my gentleman cat, found that the quiet country roads are the worst, because although we'd lived by main roads for years, no problem.. i think he had a false sense of security in the middle of nowhere, he was forever sat by the bank along the road trying to catch little creatures, he just wouldn't listen.

There's maybe 10 cars a day, but when they come they go the full 60 mph.. plus in the summer the tractors' seem to be driven by boy racers, who see animals merely in terms of £££s.Sad

Oh Ouch Pinot, Kitty claws are sharp as little needles, no tights or bare legs for you for a while!.. well worth it though Smile

Pinot · 11/05/2011 21:42

Welllllllll the playfighting has begun in earnest! Routine used to be sleep/eat/pee...now its sleep/play/fight/eat/pee/fight/sleep.... which I guess is a good sign of development eek!!

Both currently asleep on me, flat on their backs, fat bellies in the air, heads to one side.

Too cute!!!

Lamb... I meant the people who don't fence their gardens in and let their dogs pretty much live as feral (almsot everyone around here).... obviously a walked doge needs to be left of the lead for a run every now and again..... people round here just don't bother walking their dogs though, they just leave them run free, all up and down the roads, coming into everyone's garden, cattle worrying, hunting rabbits and pheasant, killing lambs, being aggressive with walkers. Twice this week ds2 has been just outside our front door and had a dog bigger than him run up on him (he's 2, and tiny at that and it was a big dog... fair deuce to ds2 he stood his ground and managed to frighten a dog bigger than himself away!)

SummerRain · 12/05/2011 14:58

sorry... forgot to spell check that post Blush

ExitPursuedByALamb · 12/05/2011 16:26

Crikey Summer - that sounds awful! We have the garden fenced, and he is only off the lead if I am sure that there is nothing around that he could kill/worry. Tbh I am on pins a lot of the time when we are out!

Pinot · 12/05/2011 16:43

New pics x 2 are up!

And Ginger did his first ever "pounce" today - on his toy mouse!

Raaaaahhhhhh you go boy!

BecauseImWorthIt · 12/05/2011 16:46

Oh look at those lovely blue eyes!

You do realise, pinot, that these are now the official Mumsnet cats, don't you?!

Pinot · 12/05/2011 16:51

I hope so BIWI Grin Have to say, you are an absolute inspiration in how you handled the thread about gransnet. You were so cool and calm...I'd have freaked out. One day, I want to be as mature as you. Seriously.

So, so, so many threads on MN have nasty comments on them which really saddens and annoys me - well, I just thought that thread was an example of how adults can talk without flinging insults/massive ego's and the other bad bits of MN.

Consider yourself Meow and Gingers MN Auntie Grin

ClaireDeLoon · 12/05/2011 16:53

Oh they are so big now. But still very squeeeeeee

Pinot · 12/05/2011 16:58

They are very squeeeeeeeeee and feel quite chunky - not so fragile iyswim :)

Meows fur is really silky, whereas Ginger is a fluffmonster - funny how they can be so different :)

Soooo Cuuuute.

TheOriginalFAB · 12/05/2011 17:06

There was a piece slagging off Mn and GN in the Daily Mail today.

Pinot · 12/05/2011 17:09

Oh no I hope BIWI doesn't mind.

I have a massive guilt complex. Sorry in advance BIWI :(

LaWeasel · 12/05/2011 17:14

Hi all, glad to hear the super cutie's are still doing well...

Summer, Pinot, if you've got time could you pop over to this thread in the cat section? The cat someone picked up from rescue 3 weeks ago is apparently 5 weeks pregnant... pregnant rescue cat

TheOriginalFAB · 12/05/2011 17:14

I couldn't find the post.
