How is Gingers' odd skin patch today Pinot?

I'd take a guess that if the fur's growing back, it isn't irritating him or obviously sore, it can't be too serious.

Pinot · 03/05/2011 19:25

Well, lovely Jellykat, I think Ginger must hate me as I seem to be constantly fidlding with the poor thing. Today I've soaked off the remaining shea butter, then soaped him, then dried him, then brushed the flakes all off then brushed his new short hair patch 'up' so he doesn't look quite so weird.

My reward? A poo down my top and into my bra? I don't know how he angled his bottom as I'm not wearing a cleavage-y top or anything, but I had orangey poop running down twixt my boobs.

His hair though looks rather good now and is definitely growing :)

Clever boy at pooing without needing his bottom rubbed Grin.

Pinot · 03/05/2011 19:45

FAB that's one way of looking at it! Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 03/05/2011 20:26

GrinGrin my cat just ate some fish. I KNEW she has been playing me!

Pinot · 04/05/2011 11:13

Morning ladies! Theres been some great weight gain - Ginger is now 425g and Meow is 350g :) They're happy with 3 hour feeds - actually a 3.5hr feed in the night as it means I wake only once and just get up a bit earlier than normal to organise the kids, dogs etc. It all seems to be settling well.

I think Ginger might be cutting his teeth as he feels a bit nibbly when he's playing with my fingers - the two of them were definitely play-fighting this morning, both rolling about in my lap trying to nibble eahc others ears. Was lovely to see!

I've just read up on weaning and am off out to get some litter as the stuff I've bought isn't right for kittens incase they eat it. Plus some wet kitten food as I only bought dry. I know they're not ready for another week, I'm just excited to get them all set up :)

Gingers hair is thickening and theres no sign of flakiness now so am confident the infection has gone. Clever boy :)

They are doing so well! Love the pics of the kitten olympics :o

SummerRain · 04/05/2011 11:31

Sounds like they're growing up so quickly Pinot..... ginger is almost half a kilo! My biggest cat is only just over 2kg!

I wouldn't put it past Ginger to give the food a go this week tbh.... I've had a few kittens that were munching away well before 4 weeks and he's a big lad for his age. Of course it was easier for us as we had food put for mum anyway so it didn't waste any to put it where kittens could reach as the older cats would eat it either way.

Pinot · 04/05/2011 11:49

Ooh I'm ever so glad you've suggested that Summer - he's a big boy - he's long, a lot longer than his sister so I wondered if he was ready to have a go as well. Woop!! Must stock up on babywipes for cleaning the mes off him then!

Tips? I was going to start with a bit on my fingertip (he chews them alot in play already) and then progress to a bowl. But should I put his milk in a bowl to start with do you think?

SummerRain · 04/05/2011 12:05

I always just left a tiny bit on a plate where they'd come across it easily. Those that were ready tucked right in, if they weren't ready they stood in it and swatted it around but didn't eat. They seem pretty aware themselves of whether they're ready to eat it.

None of mine have ever had milk in a bowl (other than what they steal from the table when the kids leave cereal bowls lying around!) so I wouldn't think they'd need to learn to drink milk from a bowl to understand it's food you're giving them.

Pinot · 04/05/2011 12:14

OK - great advice as always, thank you. Do I just mush up wet kitten food with a touch of milk? That seems to be the jist of the online advice.

And wood-based cat litter (incase they eat it)...?

Pinot... they say to mix with milk but as ours weren't on formula i never did.... just put a spoonful of the kitten food out and let them at it. The chunks in the kitten food are really tiny and it's 80odd% moisture anyway if you read the packet Grin [value for money]

Th3e wood based kitty litter is fabulous stuff... nice and clean and easy to manage. The clay gets everywhere... they will be little piss and clay footprints all over your house and it stinks. Definitely get wood if you can... in fact, don't splash out for wood kitty litter... go to a solid fuel centre if you have one near you and ask for wood pellets for stoves or boilers. They're exactly the same thing but a quarter of the price... I pay E2.50 for a 10kg bag which last 2/3 weeks with 4 adult cats.

Ginger is lookng fabulous.... soooooo fluffy [squee][kitten]

CaveMum · 04/05/2011 13:53
