MNHQ here: Video now available, Mumsnet founder Justine Roberts puts your questions to Prime Minister Boris Johnson

JuliaMumsnet · 01/06/2022 13:20

Hello

As you may have seen - yesterday Mumsnet founder Justine Roberts headed to Number 10 Downing Street with some of the questions that most reflected what you all asked on this thread, from partygate to trust and integrity to the cost of living.

Again, there were so many excellent questions and personal stories and we would have loved to ask them all but we chose a selection that we thought best represented the topics raised.

You can watch it here. Let us know what you think!

(We don’t have a transcript at the moment but will make one available as soon as we can)

Thanks

MNHQ

I used to interview job applicants for admin jobs.
Anyone who ummed and er'd and didn't answer the questions in the way he did would not have been considered appointable.
Well done Justin.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 02/06/2022 13:38

*Justine, obvs. Bloody autocarrot.

Peregrina · 02/06/2022 14:57

I don't think I would have given the job to anyone so scruffy either, certainly not in a customer facing role.

L1ttledrummergirl · 02/06/2022 19:35

My MP who refuses to answer questions from her constituents was waffling about childcare in pmqs. It seems they have been discussing ideas.

She is a career politician with a young child so I suspect that she is exactly the sort of person who would encourage the vouchers to be used for fripparies, all under the guise of lying about listening to her constituents.

I can't see her retaining her seat in any election given her procrastination and lack of moral compass.

Galdos · 02/06/2022 21:18

He waffled terribly, even though the questions were asked pretty neutrally. Difficult to separate the interview from the current political malaise. Some typical Boris - bluster or answering a different question - but overall I don't think it will move the dial much. For those who support him he was friendly and honest; for those who oppose him he was evasive and mendacious. In all, surely unlikely to sway opinion, as he will still be thought honest/mendacious?

Thelnebriati · 02/06/2022 21:42

If only it had been possible for him to prepare, possibly using some sort of system whereby he could have seen the questions in advance...

MagnoliaTaint · 03/06/2022 10:43

excellent interview. Far preferred it to the webchats. Please do more.

Excellent Grin

Considering this place is often crawling with political intern types, bots and spads, it was surprising he was so ill-prepared. Surely someone wrote him some notes?

I presume it’s because he clocked the tenor of the questions and decided at some contemptuous level he didn’t want to be prepared. The bluster was actually his version of acceptable hostility and a ‘fuck you’ to Mumsnet.

Arletty · 03/06/2022 17:47

Should you have another interview with Boris Johnson and he tries to divert questions by talking of his record, perhaps you could ask him what he has to show for his time in office. Hospital Waiting lists up, ambulances unavailable, roads in a shocking state, under-educated children, hungry children, employment with no contracts, shortage of doctors and nurses, livestock farmers getting less for their produce than it costs to produce . Where are the new hospitals he promised? He is a disgrace to the office.

😀 love it!

Fortboyard · 04/06/2022 00:13

I am a “Waitrose woman”. I’ve always thought Boris Johnson was an absolute cock, and I’ve never voted conservative, but I did at one stage assume he was at least intelligent. This interview shows clearly how fucking stupid the man is.
The fact that he couldn’t even be bothered to prepare for any of the interview questions shows just how little respect he has for the electorate in general and women in particular.
It was a car crash and I can only hope it proves fatal for him.

SpindleSpangle · 04/06/2022 07:51

It would be lovely if MN was instrumental in finishing him off.

Booklover3 · 04/06/2022 16:42

Boooo Boris.

Cant even answer a simple question.

33green · 04/06/2022 23:54

Leaking sack of custard on viagra….

Father’s Day coming up…he must be sweating like Rishi Sunak at the Shell garage

33green · 04/06/2022 23:57

Lord Goldsmith if you please….and a few others as well I hear

Fleetheart · 02/06/2022 06:44

Fabulous, courageous interview, if only our journalists were so ballsy. More like this please

The majority of parliamentary journalists want to protect relations enough so they still retain access to politicians to maintain job credibility. Alas these sorts of interviews are few and far between! His lack of preparation goes hand in hand with not listening to his officials, who for many years (in my case 30!) have helped keep ministers of all political colour on the straight and narrow…not now.

33green · 05/06/2022 00:05

GreenLunchBox · 02/06/2022 09:19

Exactly! The man has got at least 7 kids and yet he's clearly never read to a single one of them. Mind boggling.

7 is a ‘Conservative’ estimate….

33green · 05/06/2022 00:11

Peregrina · 01/06/2022 22:29

Presumably he had to go through selection processes and interviews for candidacy for MP, Mayor of London, etc.

Prior to being Mayor of London he had been MP for Henley. This is (was?) a pig with a blue rosette seat, so anyone they put up would get elected.

I put was with a question mark, because South Oxfordshire DC is now under NOC. It ought to be the truest of true blue seats. Oxfordshire now only has one DC under Conservative control. This is not what you would have expected even a decade ago.

It’s probably the most fundamental problem with our democracy, how you can rise to positions of huge political power and responsibility without any form of interview or check on competence…background / education seems to be the kicker. Sure you’ll need to get elected…this PM somehow now runs the country. QED.

theworldhas · 05/06/2022 09:27

Funny thing about Boris Johnson is he has to have some of the least Conservative Values in the entire country. Raising the next generation? Loyalty and duty to country? Family responsibility? Community?

When the Tories elected him they in fact signalled the end of the Conservatism as a significant force. It’s just a neoliberal party now: Low tax, maximise corporate profits, sell-it all off, with a side of flag waving faux populism. They couldn’t give a shit if the union falls and Scotland and N.Ireland walk. There are no true Conservative values anywhere to be seen. The Tories have basically done a New Labour and burnt half their ideology to the ground.

GodspeedJune · 05/06/2022 21:09

Well done Justine. Loved the first question. He came across as the blustering idiot we all know him to be. Appalling he can’t even name his children’s favourite books, what hope is there for the education system?

AnnaKar · 06/06/2022 08:28

Maybe you played a part in his downfall Justine, though the ‘boos’ at St Paul’s must have been a final straw.

He deserves to go for his absolute lack of moral compass. How can we bring up our children to understand ‘doing the right thing’ when the leader of our country doesn’t, when he twists the truth and when that fails, his answer is to change the rules.
Can you imagine running a school like this?

LimpBiskit · 06/06/2022 08:33

There can be no meaningful conversation with this guy. He is bereft of integrity and depth of personality.

WaitroseWoman · 06/06/2022 16:40

Here is the video about Boris by Led By Donkeys, already with 1.2 million views:

@JuliaMumsnet

Thank you, I know transcripts take a lot of effort but I really appreciate them. Found it funny how you have kept some of his filler words 😁
