D'y ever wonder why we wash towels if we only use them after baths?

I know there was no time and I feel all weighed down with the responsibility of it all, but here we are ladies, a new home...

Good morning xx

TeaSleepFood · 21/03/2009 11:08

Morning all!

love the sheep TKB!

We had a vomitting night from DD, had to bath her and everything. Thing is, she still smelt bad after that, so was I a bad mother to spray some Febreeze on a wet wipe and mop down her hair? It worked! I now feel guilty in case there are nasty chemicals in it. Tell me I'm ok!

Wouldn't worry love I gave Lewis his first ever Mum spit on a hankie wash yesterday - as the mighty Peter Kay always says 'Mum spit can wash anything away' xx

If Ems or anybody who knows her reads my last post I did nothing of the sort - some imposter is on MN again pretending to be me

sorry to gatecrash this thread - but just wanted some advice from the pros.

I'll be having twins in May/June and already have dd 5yrs and ds 3yrs. Do you think I'm going to need some help or can I manage without? Just a bit worried about the summer holidays.

A local nanny who I know quite well is leaving her job and offering to come and work for me for the summer. I don't know if I'm going to need her or if I should just hold out until the twins arrive and see how I feel. I don't want to miss taking on this nanny who I know and like if I am going to need somebody. On the other hand - don't want to commit to paying somebody if I will be able to manage on my own.

Would appreciate any thoughts.

TeaSleepFood · 21/03/2009 14:37

hello mango! come on in - the water's lovely!

Congrats on the twins - they will be great!

I would say if you have the luxury of a nanny - go for it! I had a college student for 6 weeks at the beginning and it was invaluable. She would either help with the twins or hoover or wash or anything. The main thing was that she could be with (or listen out for) the twins while I slept.

FOr you the other bonus is that she could help with the other two while you get used to the twins, and vice versa when the others need some mummy time.

Having my mum nearby was great but I wouldn't have turned down any help until I'd got myself organised.

happymango, you are not gatecrashing! Come away in, welcome to the nuthouse world of multiples

Everyone on here has a different story but my thoughts are......you can't tell if your babies are going to feed and sleep and feed and sleep or if you are going to be pacing the floor with unsettled babies. So.....if money isn't an issue, I would take her offer to help. Its always helpful in the early days to have someone to walk the wee ones so you can rest or spend some time with your other children. Or she can take the older ones to the park while you snuggle up and feed.

Its entirely possible to do it alone but I think if you know her and you like her and she's going to be free then you are a match made in heaven!

Will you have any other help? i.e. parents/siblings etc

Could the nanny do part-days? Say, coming in after lunch? This would give you some time to be a family and then by lunch you'll have an idea of what help you need that day.

frumpygrumpy · 21/03/2009 15:05

Hi TSF remarkably similar posts from us

shabster · 21/03/2009 17:22

Mango - welcome!!

I had my Mum and Dad and also my 70 year old Grandma 'helping' when I had the twins My parents were fantastic and my Gran was......my lovely Gran. She would turn up and say 'I'm going to give you a day my love' She would iron for me and criticise tidy up.

I would say 'go for it' especially if you get on with the nanny.

Also....congratulations - the world of multiples is a very, very special world.

happymango · 21/03/2009 17:31

Thanks for all the advice. Money is a bit of an issue - that's why I'm being so undecided. I was made redundant in November, so I don't have maternity pay or any money coming in. My husband is working but already shoulders the burden of the mortgage and all the other bills - so if I pay for a nanny it will be out of my savings.

In some ways I think that I should just get on with it on my own and see when it all happens if I need help. My only concern is that I might not then be in a good position to interview etc.

Perhaps I should just leave it and see who's around when it all kicks off.

(Wanders of dithering...)

Been away for ages I know - but here I am to say Happy Mothers Day to the most hard-working mothers of them all - multiple mothers!

Or maybe its just me that works too hard? The girls are almost 7 months now and 2 have both bottom teeth through while 3rd is not far behind. We have been weaning for almost a month now as well which is going well, the only thing that has been rejected so far is banana. They are also now sleeping from 7.30pm to 7am! At least a good nights rest helps me get through the screaming of teething through the day.

Unfortunately things havn't gotten any better on the MIL front. OR should that be the whole of my dp's family? No-one comes to see the girls for weeks on end and then we get the blame for it!

In-laws = arrrrrggggghhhh!!!!!!

frumpygrumpy · 22/03/2009 23:04

Oh dear......I have 24 hours to find/make/rob a viking outfit for DD1 to wear to school on Tuesday morning.......HELP!!!!!

triplets · 22/03/2009 23:06

Thank you all for your lovely posts. Picked the kids up from mums at 9.30am, and of course told they were "as good as gold". Went to Folkestone, bought some plants to brighten up the garden, had fish n chips, sat and watched the kids play in the park for an hour or so, got a bag full of crab claws and came home. H and Becs had made me a cake, had tea and cake, then at 7pm we opened a bottle of fizz and ate our crab claws, nothing else and it was heaven! So, not how I would ever have imagined I would be spending my 57th b/day(how can I be this old ) but sat here tonight and just feel so happy that we are still here together, but missed my Matthew. Night night everyone xxxx

triplets · 22/03/2009 23:08

If I thought they would get to you by then Frumpster I have some tasteful buffalo horn salad servers which would look great on his head

frumpygrumpy · 22/03/2009 23:27
