Hi Merry, and yes, 38 weeks today. Glad to hear yours are doing so well.

Nellstar, sounds like you've got a lot on your plate but you still sound very calm, good for you. I hope all works out with finding a home soon after your DTs arrive.

Had a second sweep today in a desperate attempt to get these babies out in the next few days before DD's birthday on 17th. If there's no sign by Monday, I'll be resolutely crossing my legs for the following week!

All the best GBB the inevitable will happen at some point!

Pics are set so that they can be seen by all mumsnetters, do I need to change privacy settings on my computer? If so does anyone know how, was just having a look at - Web Page Privacy Policy, makes no sense to me!

First day with husband back at work, going well so far, hope I haven't jinxed it by writing that!

GettingBiggerBird · 12/12/2008 11:39

Fran, I think you need to go to the section on MN called 'My Mumsnet', log in with your email and password, then go to 'Set up public profile', I still can't see your public profile page. The suspense is killing us!

Hi Everyone,

Glad to hear everyone's hanging in there and doing well. How are you all going with your Xmas preparations? My Christmas preparations so far... I have hung a sparkly, dark-red wreath on our front door. Impressed?

Had my 22 week scan this morning and all fine so far - all three are the same size and the right size for their age which is reassuring. No sign of TTTS with the twins either, which is a relief. They were all lying next to each other in a row, with their heads touching - very cute! Well, I thought so....

Hope you're all well and happy,
Love Barbarella XX

anjlix · 12/12/2008 14:21

Frangi I cant see your profile either...

Congrats baublerella you are a trooper. It will go great...keep your spirits up.

Dh added more pics of the kids at the same link if any one is interested. Getting the hang of breast feeding directly without expressing. One of the twins is sucking well. The health visitor was here today and stayed through the entire feed. Latching on each kid multiple times since they can only take so much at a time...It was so much fun and a relief. I do not like expressing very much but it is a must do if I am to get any sleep.

MarsLady · 12/12/2008 17:28

anj... something you might like to try. After the twin that feeds well has started you could swap them over and put the twin that feeds less well onto that breast - then twin 2 won't have to work so hard to get the milk flowing. Works for my clients that try it.

GBB Look after yourself lady. Those DTs are probably still choosing the best day to visit the pub!

GettingBiggerBird · 13/12/2008 10:17

Well, what a night! My waters went at 6-ish yesterday evening, and after sorting out childcare for DD we patiently waited for contractions to start. Poor Mars even cancelled her evening. 4 hours later - nothing, but I hadn't felt DT1 move for a while so phoned delivery suite and they wanted me in for checking. Off we waddled with the ludicrous amount of stuff, lots of waiting around, then sent back home at 1 a.m. as all OK but no sign of labour. They will give me until tomorrow morning then induce me, boo. So please send me lots of contraction vibes everyone! Will keep you all posted...

TALLULAHBELLE · 13/12/2008 12:31

Sending those vibes your way GBB. Hopefully things well on the way by now. Best of luck. Can't wait to hear the news.

MarsLady · 13/12/2008 12:34

Don't worry darling... as long as it's not during the X Factor Finals I'll send you loads of vibes!

GettingBiggerBird · 13/12/2008 14:55

I KNOW!!! AND STRICTLY!!! I'll be gutted . Still nothing as yet... I'll get on the trampoline at 10.30 pm.

mel2005 · 13/12/2008 21:16

good luck GBB, wishing you nice contractions and an excellent birth.

i have been praying i dont go into labour all week as i have had flu and have not been at all well. i now just have a really chesty cough which hurts so much, i swear it feels like some one has stabbed me in the belly every time i cough. i have a scan on tuesday and i am hoping four days not being able to keep anything down hasnt affected Oscars and Alices weight to much. they have been moving well, probably wondering what all the noise is. i have been worrying about pulling the placenta away again with the violent coughing and sickness but (fingers crossed) i havent had any bleeding so i think the pain is like a stitch.
my little boy who has already had flu last week now has it again (i hope i dont get a repeat dose!!!) DH hasnt had it at all yet and DD had a very mild version. i hope they dont get the real thing when i am in the hospital.

Anyway, I have finally made it to the 36 WEEK target!!!!!! YIPEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the consultants said i wouldnt make it this far so i am very happy. they should be good weights now, i hope. i think that Oscar is now breech but i will find out on tuesday and sort out how i am going to get them out.

PBH should be having her c-section around now (i think!!), so good luck PBH and i hope you get back on-line soon.

TALLULAHBELLE · 13/12/2008 22:19

Well done on getting to your 36 week target Mel . Good luck with your scan on Tues. I have my 36 week scan on Tues too & have to agree birth plan with consultant. Bit about it all.

MarsLady · 13/12/2008 23:23

Well done Mel and Tallulah! Now if you could just get to 37 weeks you'll be term and there should be no reason for the wee ones to be taken from you at birth.

Frangipani74 · 14/12/2008 08:50

Oooh exciting GBB, sounds like how it all started for me, about the same time as well 38wks + a few days, will be thinking about you today. Next time you post I expect we'll be hearing some exciting news about some new arrivals.

GettingBiggerBird · 14/12/2008 09:51

Morning all, and thanks for the well wishes - just getting ready to head off to the hospital now. No signs of spontaneous contractions, but just totally flipped out at DH and had a good cry so that may set things off! I'll let you know once the deed is done .

Ladies good afternoon to you all! Can you believe this is the first time I've got onto a working computer for almost 3 weeks!

Well congrats firstly to Anjlix, whose birth sounds suspiciously like mine...great that special care not needed. Yes I am envious and you will all see why now...

Waters broke on 2nd Dec at 3.20am. Bloody shock of my life! No pain, but decided to go into hospital anyway cos I had a feeling that I needed to.
Had to stop for fuel on the way - that was fun...
By the time I got to hospital, in much pain, and 7 cms!!!!!!! 10 mins later was 10 cms so they told me to push as they could feel twin 1's head was there...no pain relief at this point and I was swearing like a trooper (although never said the c word and I don't know how!!)
Got the gas and air into me and told them that if they wanted me to have 2 babies vaginally then I wanted an epidural otherwise I would simply refuse to do it! (Apparently this was quite funny at the time, however I was being deadly serious...)

So, pain relief bloke turned up (can't spell it) and popped the epidural in...and started pushing. Epidural didn't work...
Still pushing...nothing happening...
Turns out where I dilated so quickly my cervix hadn't done it evenly so although I was 10 cms and wanted to push some cervix on the 1 side was still there and where the head was coming down she was bringing the cervix back with her. I was examined again and it turned out that I was actually going backwards and was now 6 cms dilated...

So stop pushing, quick conflab with all involved, into theatre for emergency c-section...can I admit I was relieved??? Gotta love a spinal block...

Gwen Laura born at 8.33am 2/12/08 weighing 3lb 14ozs
Nia Helen born at 8.34am 2/12/08 weighing 4lb 7ozs.

Both straight into special care.
Although Nia was bigger she had some problems breathing which I believe was because she never made it near the birth canal to have the fluid squeezed out of her lungs when contracting...was on cpap for a while but ok now.
Gwen had jaundice so was under the light for 24 hours, but they were both out of incubators and into cots by the Thursday.

They are still in special care because they aren't feeding as well as they could. They still get tired easily so end up having a bottle every other feed, being tube fed in between.

They'll be 2 weeks old on Tuesday, so we are aiming for them coming home just before Christmas which will obviously be wonderful...

Recovered fine from section apart from my blood pressure. It didn't drop until 12 hours after the op, my personal record now is 160/110...so had to have some drugs to bring it down, and the worst thing was that I couldn't go and see the girls until 10.30pm on the Tuesday night which was horrible...

Really weird not having them home though and I was really upset for a while. Its like we have pictures of random babies in the house because they aren't there!
And of course I've recovered better because I@m having full night sleeps!

Mel -well done on reaching your target... I was sure that you were going to go before me!
With regards to photos, we will be buying a laptop and getting broadband after christmas so I will upload everything then.
(Using in-laws computer currently), just about to have lunch and then off up the hospital for the daily ritual! Its weird how easily you get used to having to go up there every day...

Hope everyone is well and if I don't get back onto the board before christmas...which I should be able to...

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

take care all

Oh wow all this exciting news!!!

GBB Good luck with your delivery! I really hope everything goes ok for you and look forward to hearing about your new arrivals!

Mel Well done on getting to 36 weeks. I am a week behind you and so far have had a problem free pg. Think I am in for the 38 weeks so feel like I have a while to go yet.

and PBH Congratulations!!!! It sounds like you had a hard time with your delivery but I am so glad everything turned out ok. Love the names!! I hope you have them home shortly! Am envious of your full nights sleep!! Make the most of it!!!!

mel2005 · 14/12/2008 16:04

oh PBH, congratulations and they are lovely names, gosh i would have been having a complete panic at the birth. it must be so hard not having them at home with you but i am sure they will be home for xmas which was something i remembered you worried about before. i wish i could have a full nights sleep.
i had some strong contractions last night but they stopped, to be honest i was a bit gutted. i just have a feeling it will not be long now.
good luck GBB

MarsLady · 15/12/2008 04:19

anjlix · 15/12/2008 09:22

MarsLady · 15/12/2008 23:45

She's absolutely AMAZING! All my ladies should be like her.

I'm sure she'll be along in the next few days. She said that I could post but... I think that she should. I shall content myself with
