Hi GBB. I have lots of itching too, all over bump & palms of hands/soles of feet. Had it last time too. Wasn't/isn't OC, have bloods taken quite often for LFT's & bile acids & are always clear. Seems just to be a combination of skin stretching & hormones. I have been prescribed Piriton but don't usually take it, prefer to use an aqueous cream with menthol which is really cooling & soothing. Did the hosp give you anything for the itch in the meantime? I think, that if you do have OC they won't treat it they will just induce, especially at your stage.

TALLULAHBELLE · 08/12/2008 15:00

And should have said, congrats to Jenny. Sounds like things going brilliantly for you.

Welcome to LargeGlass - glad you're over the moon. I'm still in shock at thought of twins one one toddler & here you have 3 kids already. Hats off.

Thanks for birthday wishes too.

GettingBiggerBird · 08/12/2008 17:04

Hi Tallulah and thanks for the post - I wasn't prescribed anything but acupuncturist/midwife recommended aloe gel which I've just got and it's really helping. It's good to know I'm making a mountain out of a molehill! Always rather that way round...

Hi All, I had my babies at St Thomas on Dec 2 at 33+6. We all came back home on Saturday. They did not need to go to special care so it was fanstastic. I had an emergency c-sec since water broke at 4am and in 1 hr I was having contractions 5 mins apart. By the time I was wheeled in the operating theatre they were 3 mins apart. Girls came out crying so NICU was out. C-section recovery has been well but unexpected. Girls are called Maya and Tulsi. They weighed 4lb and 4lb 5oz and have lost a some weight since birth. Today they gave us a jaundice scare. But the nice docs at St Thomas said that it was well below treatable levels. I am expressing milk so they can suck through bottle. Breast engorgement was a bad surprise but hopefully will pass in a day or too. God has been very kind to us.

As I get better I will try to catch up with you all. Please send me your best wishes. Thanks for the continuing support.

GettingBiggerBird · 08/12/2008 17:59

Anjlix congratulations - must have been a bit of a shock but what fantastic outcomes for your girls, with no special care too. Wishing you a speedy recovery and good luck with the early weeks. How exciting - and surely I must be next?!

Anjlix Congratulations

pophas2boybeans · 09/12/2008 11:36

Well done Anjlix. You've clearly produced some strong little girls there. Congratulations!!!

mel2005 · 09/12/2008 16:01

congratulations Anjlix, the names are lovely and its great they were not in special care as well.

i am still here, had to go in and be monitored yesterday but everything ok, some BH but ok at the moment.

just been to my childrens nativity play, it ended up with all the children throwing straw at each other, it was very funny!!!

also if anyone is using washable nappies i have just got some of these at a bargain price from amazon, they were a bit cheaper when i ordered but still a bargain as day packs are usually £48

www.amazon.co.uk/Tots-Bots-Cotton-Aplix-White/dp/B000MQ7BNG/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=baby&qid=1228837265 &sr=8-9

now i have managed to do birth to potty for £300 for both babies buying 50+ of each size 1 and 2 with wraps and liners. it will save me over £1000 if i manage to use them until they are potty trained and hopefully i can sell them on afterwards.

Frangipani74 · 09/12/2008 16:52

Congrats LGOR exciting news.

GBB Hope blood tests show everything to be normal. I had fair bit of itching toward last few weeks, but mostly on the tummy so assumed it was just skin stretching.

Jenny AC you both sound like you're doing really well. I have the next two days with husband at home, then I'm on my own - arghh! Wondering if I'll cope with twins and a toddler.

Frangipani74 · 09/12/2008 16:54

hi, I failed to read last page before i posted, well done Anjlix

GettingBiggerBird · 09/12/2008 19:26

Hi everyone, and Fran thanks for the info about your itching. Mine is really bad this evening, but I had a sweep today and am 3cms dilated already, so I feel the end is in sight! The consultant said she'd be very surprised if I didn't have them within the next week, and even if they don't come by themselves, I would only need my membranes ruptured to get things going.

Mel glad you're still hanging in there too - nearly at your 36-week milestone, no?

OP posts:
TALLULAHBELLE · 09/12/2008 19:44

Congratulations anjlix Great that no special care needed. Look forward to some pics.

mel2005 · 09/12/2008 21:26

oh GBB!!!! not long to go then, are they both head down? i really dont know what will happen when i finally go in. the little boy is tucked up the top breech/transverse. there is hope that he might move down if i have the little girl naturally but i am then worried about an emergency c-section. i am a bit of a planner and hate not being in control. i would rather have a planned c-section than put one baby at risk but the consultant said they will just grab him and pull him out and i should have a natural birth. if i get a different consultant on the night they might refuse and i will have a c-section for twin 2. i have a really bad cold at the moment and dont feel at all well. i dread to think what it would be like to have a c-section and be coughing like i am at the moment.

GettingBiggerBird · 09/12/2008 21:35

Mel - yes, both head down. My friend's twins were twin 1 head down and twin 2 not (can't remember which way), after twin 1 was out naturally, they gave number 2 a helping hand (took a bit of finding, apparently!) IYSWIM , and it was out very soon after. Might be worth thinking carefully about an epidural so that if they do need to manoeuvre, it won't hurt? Though as I understand it, there's plenty of room after twin 1 is out and the registrar/consultant should be experienced at getting twin 2 into the right position. I know exactly what you mean though, I'm a planner too and the thought of ending up with an EMCS for twin 2 is a worry. But then I guess at the time all you will really care about is their safety.

Nellstar · 10/12/2008 14:11

Congratulations Anjlix! And good luck GBB! Had my 30 week scan today and they seem to be doing really well. But the research doctors still favour a 34 week c-section, the consultant a 36 week one. Feel caught in between. Shame I can't have a natural birth, they're both head down, placenta high anterior etc, but I do just want them to be safe and feel I must go with their recommendations. Wish they weren't monochorionic, then they'd let them cook for longer etc. But Anjlix's two sound so healthy at 33+6 it makes me feel much better. Congrats to anyone I've missed - I don't get on this much. We're set to move on their official EDD, still haven't found anywhere, or sorted out help so it's all been a bit stressful. Anyone else out there have a toddler and planning to do it without official help? Or done it? Would love to know it's possible..

anjlix · 10/12/2008 16:38

Thanks all for the well wishes. Girls are doing fine. I am getting the hang of expressing milk. It was not as easy as they make it look like...

Nellstar hang in there. Your body will tell you when it is done. My body was ready. The weight was too much for me. No one but nature can control the gestation. Consultants are there to give opinions. But rest is not in any one's hand.

TALLULAHBELLE · 10/12/2008 20:51

Pics gorgeous Anjlix. Babies look very healthy.

Mel - not that I've been given much info, but am in much the same situation as you & spoke to lovely midwife at ante-natal class last week. She said that the fear of giving birth naturally to first baby only to need emerg sect for 2nd was one of most common worries. However she said that it very rarely happens in reality. It was my main concern too, & I thought I would go for elective if both babies not cephallic, but have changed my mind. Was the thought of recovery from a section whilst trying to take care of 2 new babies & an 18 month old. Establishing bf with twins will be hard enough without wound etc. Am still pretty confused though & not entirely sure if am doing the right thing. As you say, depends which consultant you see.

MarsLady · 10/12/2008 22:01

Gorgeous babies anj. Remember to massage your breasts all the way round before starting to express. Then hand express for a couple of minutes. Works wonders

accessorizequeen · 10/12/2008 23:05

Ooh, gbb, the end is in sight for you I hope. Huge congrats to Anjlix!!! I must take a look at the photos tomorrow when I have more than 5 secs to spare to pop on here...

Nellstar, we only sorted out help (p/t nanny) about 2 days before dp returned to work, there's still time BUT if you can afford help go for it as it will really make a difference. I would no longer be bf and would have gone insane without LOTS of help. Must you move on your EDD? Can you go and live with someone else for a few weeks, mum etc, you need to be concentrating on you and the babies as it won't calm down for 6 weeks at least.

Nellstar · 11/12/2008 09:15

Thanks aq for the advice and anjlix for the words of encouragement. The EDD is the latest the buyer will agree to, but I think I probably will move down to my mums for a bit and DH can sort out a new home hopefully. My MIL is very helpful and very good with my DS and she has offered for us to go up there as well. It's all far from ideal, but I am worried about moving before the EDD as I want to be within very easy reach of the hospital as the boys are likely to be in scbu for a bit. Still trying to get my head round the caesar, and the early delivery, had DS1 at home at 40 weeks and all was fine, all looks fine with these, but the hospital won't risk a natural birth or post 35/6 week delivery because of the risk of late onset acute TTTS and acute ttts in labour. They don't have statistics but strongly advise c-section. Never had an op, scared of the recovery, and of the risks inherent with getting them out early but also scared of late onset ttts. It's clearly a hard judgement call. Going to try to sort out a doula for the first couple of weeks and then hopefully we'll be able to get mothers' help etc, depending on where we're living. Can't afford it but can't afford not to..

AMerryMariAndHerHappyNewTwins · 11/12/2008 11:18

GBB, It's merrymarigold here. Just popping in to see how you are going...sorry about the itching. I can totally relate. It was awful beforehand. Sadly, for me it continued after...but it was a totally different kind of rash, so I think it was a reaction to something - possibly twin motherhood! I found frozen sweetcorn helped during the night on my feet...

You are doing so well to still have them in there (how many weeks now? 38?), bet they will be lovely and strong when they come out. Can't wait to hear their names...hope you are in and out in time for Christmas.

Mel, look forward to your birth too and hearing your news.

Congrats Anjlix. That's great, they didn't need to go in. They must be so tiny and cute.

Got mine weighed yesterday. Girl is 9lbs and boy is 8lbs 8 now. Not too bad considering they are bf'd and also both had bronchiolitis. I was well pleased.

Sorry to everyone else...have been finding it hard to keep up with MN. Just pop into my Nov Postnatal thread when I can...and this one even more rarely.

AQ, how are the babies? Must be getting so big...my boy looks quite a bit like yours. Does Bridget have red hair?

Frangipani74 · 11/12/2008 17:13
