TALLULAHBELLE · 17/12/2008 16:34

Well - I'm still pregnant.

Had 36 week check yesterday. Babies still growing well, T2 still breech. My consultant was in theatre so didn't get to discuss birth plan at all. Have just to go back in 2 weeks for another check. that's the day she wanted me induced so seem to have escaped that for a little while anyway. Just want to get to 37 weeks - they can come any time after that.

Mel - how did you get on?

Hanging out for news from GBB. Surely you let slip a couple of wee details Mars?

MarsLady · 17/12/2008 17:46

I could let a couple of details slip. Let me see now...

She had twins!
She was bloody amazing!

TALLULAHBELLE · 17/12/2008 17:59

Oh Gee thanks- Mars.

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 17/12/2008 18:20

Coo-eey, I'm back!!

First of all, huge congratulations to PBH, sounds like thankfully all has turned out well despite a scary start. Love your girls' names, and hoping you get them home very soon.

So, the gory details? Well, maybe not all of them. Thanks for all your well wishes, BTW.

I went in to hospital Sunday afternoon and after giving a registrar a hard time about why (and insisting on having a consultant come and talk me through it all), I finally succumbed to drip induction (syntocinon sp?) around 6pm. Thankfully, Mars arrived soon after. I was able to move as contractions got started and I think that really helped - I managed to deliver the babies a few hours later at 11.20 (Hope Elizabeth, 7lb) and 11.45 (Victor George, 7lb11) and coped with gas and air. I have to say without Mars I would really have struggled - I was very scared of pushing and she really helped talk me through it so I felt that I could do it. The babies were in great health and I manged to BF straight away.

Unfortunately, despite such a wonderful birth experience, things went rather wrong after that as I had a retained placenta (eventually). I lost a lot of blood and ended up having to have - how shall we put this - rather vigorous manual assistance to get rid of it. I have never felt pain like it and must confess I think most of Hackney probably heard me complaining about it. Anyway, I'm sure it will be a distant memory, after a few years of therapy... I lost a lot of blood and had a transfusion on Monday night, so could only come home yesterday. But, it was fine in the hospital, the postnatal care was much better than I expected, and it meant DD could have her birthday party yesterday without the DTs stealing the limelight. She is taking it all very well, actually, I really hope it lasts.

The DTs are currently in the pub with DH and DD, bit of a tradition in this family to get them in there asap. So far they are adorable, a bit yellow and lost 10% each of body weight but I suspect my supply of milk probably needs a bit of extra time to build up so I get to lie around feeding them and me constantly for a couple of weeks. ATM, we're all in love, and it's great. But then the sleepless nights haven't started yet...

So, that's us. Who's next?!

GBB (NQSOBB - I'm sure you'll change your name again soon!!) - congratulations - and yes, therapy will make it all better again (either that or a bucket full of gin...)

MEL - hang on in there love! You never thought you'd make it this far so keep on going!

Just to say that Gwen is now 4lb 8, and Nia is 4lb 12 and should be coming home on Friday (assuming they pass the car seat challenge tomorrow...) They had their first bath today and didn't even cry...

Congrats again to all - I'll try and get online again before Christmas to catch up!

MarsLady · 17/12/2008 20:03

ok... now for my version [wicked laugh emoticon]

This amazing woman scared off a Registrar who was trying to bully her. Got through to a wonderful Consultant who explained things properly. I arrived. She was doing really well until her DH and I had a quick bet. He said the DTs would arrive at 11.30pm and I said 1.30am. Strangely she wasn't impressed with my bet lol! Anyhoo I now owe her DH jellybabies.

As the contractions ramped up she used her gas and air and breathed through the contractions and eased her babies out.

It was such a shame about the 3rd stage but I was so proud of her throughout.

The babies are gorgeous, she's amazing and her old man isn't too shabby!

It was such a privilege to be there. I am now her biggest fan

Pheonixnights · 17/12/2008 20:09

Oh wow NQSBB!! That is fantastic!! The babies are such good weights!! Glad everything went ok and hope the trauma of the 3rd stage is soon forgotten!

Enjoy your new babies!!!!

mel2005 · 17/12/2008 20:58

well done GBB, congratulations. they were great weights and wonderful names.

hopefully i am next, induction is booked for 29th. scan went ok they are estimated to be 5lb10 and 6lb at the moment. had a few problems feeling Oscar as he is hiding behind the placenta so i have had to be monitored.
went into the city today to run a few errands and had some strong contractions but now they have tailed off.
i cant believe that i have spent months trying to keep them in and now i am wanting them to come out.
i have carpel tunnel and quite bad swelling to legs at the moment. the consultant wasnt to worried and hopefully i dont have long.

how many clothes etc do i need for the twins in the hospital bag? and what will they expect me to take?

MarsLady · 17/12/2008 21:53

Take a couple of babygros/sleepsuits each. A couple of vests each and a hat each. If you need more your DH/P can bring it in to you.

accessorizequeen · 18/12/2008 08:40

Wow, GBB, kudos and congrats to you. You must feel v.pleased getting the birth you wanted (well aside from stage 3).

It's wonderful you've got this far Mel, I felt the same way as was told I might deliver from 28 weeks and got to 39! I took massive amounts of clothes but didn't get them from the car for the birth so they wore hospital babygros and hats for their first photo! In my hospital you could take as much as you like, I did find it useful to put everything separated in plastic bags e.g. vests, sleepsuits. Pink/blue hats useful to identify them, otherwise white or neutral so much easier when dressing them.

Nellstar · 18/12/2008 09:02

Well done GBB, it sounds an amazing birth! And what fantastic weights. My DS1 was 7lb13 so I am in awe that you were hiding two around that weight in there. Also lovely names. Good luck mel and happy Christmas one and all.

AMerryMariAndHerHappyNewTwins · 18/12/2008 12:01

Good JOB GBB. And lovely bouncing babies...Hope is a gorgeous name (now why didn't I think of that one?!).

Mel. Wow, they're still in here. Clothes, well I had some good advice for packing a separate labour bag and then one 'fpr the car' which dh could bring in later. Packed 2 gros, 2 vests, 2 hats and 2 blankets, 4 nappies, wipes) in the labour bag. Had loads of other stuff in the other bag but dh kept bringing me more as I was in a week!

Frangipani74 · 18/12/2008 12:28

Well done NQSBB, what big babies, no wonder you chose your original nickname. sounds like for most of the birth things went really well. Hope you manage to get some rest in the first few weeks to recover from the last bit.

It's so lovely coming on this thread and reading such happy news every few weeks. So who's next then? Mel?

Mel I assume you're going to N&N to have babies, I took far too much stuff, I used quite a few of hospital nappies, maternity pads etc and didn't need the towels I took. I did manage to forget to take enough warm stuff to make sure babies were warm enough on the way home - and it snowed the day we left hospital.

Nickibythesea · 18/12/2008 15:16

Hi all

I have triplets born on 2nd August 2008 and would love to talk to other mums of multiples

Nicki

mel2005 · 18/12/2008 15:58

i packed a baby bag a while ago and put in three babygrows, three bodysuits, one outfit (top and bottoms), snowsuit, blanket, scratchmits, muslins and socks for each baby and a pack of babywipes and a pack of nappies. do you think that will do? i am not sure how long i will be in for. also they have a new rule that all bags must fit into the locker and i can just fit both bags in.

hopefully it will be at the N&N Fran, they said they would find room for me if its full as i said i was concerned that i wouldnt have time to transfer somewhere else as my last baby was quick.

welcome nickibythesea

Frangipani74 · 19/12/2008 09:07

Mel Hi, how are things, still hanging on in there? The few days that I was in and out of N&N they weren't full, there always seem to be at least 2 or 3 rooms empty - I had been concerned about it being busy as other mum's had been telling lots of stories about transfers to Kings Lynn. I was told that as a twin mum I wouldn't be made to sit for hours in the waiting room, they would find room for me and if I needed to stay they would try to get a private room off the ward for me. It all worked out really well for me and the staff were really lovely, especially Jules my midwife, she was brilliant.

Hi Nicki How are things going being mum to triplets?

mel2005 · 19/12/2008 14:09

Fran, do you live in norfolk then? are you going to the twins club in the city centre?
i was told i would have to go to cambridge or london if the unit was full and there was the possibility of special care needed. the delivery suite was closed after i had my first baby there and it was closed the evening afterwards as well. when i was in the cley ward a couple of months ago the delivery suite was full as well. they said i will get a private room in blakney ward because of health and safety having two cots.

i am getting a bit frustrated at the moment with contractions coming and going. at this rate i will be having them on christmas day. OH then wants to call them NOEL AND HOLLY!!!!! my legs are constantly swolen and are now sore because of the stretched skin. they dont even go down at night. my carpel tunnel is worse at night and i often wake up in pain. the cough i have is also bugging me as it often makes me sick and gives me a massive stitch across my belly. i was sick in the carpark at the kids pre-school today. can you tell i am fed up!!???

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 19/12/2008 14:34

Hi all and welcome Nicki - how often do you get onto MN?!

Well, we're properly back and settled, thankfully my mum has been here all week which is a godsend. I have no idea how we'd have coped otherwise with me being so weak and feeble. I'm starting to feel much better but still tired - not helped by my milk coming in yesterday so the DTs in their overexcitement feeding constantly then having really bad tummies as it all went through their systems. Wow - relay then tandem crying for 3 hours until I remembered the dummies I'd sworn I wouldn't use. Dummies rock . Jaundice is now clearing and I think we should be all right with the weights, hooray.

Mel - if it's any consolation, the aches I had all disappeared immediately after the birth. The feeling to being able to put on socks unaided and get up off the sofa fairly easily if joyous! I hope your contractions ramp up soon.
