No fetal movement in a day and a half

29 weeks with twins. Had scan last Wednesday. Went perfect. Heartbeat great, size great ect. However I haven't had movement in a day and a half since yesterday. Going to ring midwife first thing tomorrow to get in for a check.

Somethings terribly wrong isn't it? This can't be normal.

OP posts:

If OP is real, they’ve had lots of good advice here and lots of posters have shared their experiences - I would advise people only to share what they’re comfortable with given the sensitivity of the topic.
i hope OP is real and I hope they’re getting checked out and that everything is ok.

TolkiensFallow · 06/11/2023 21:10

Ring them now. And have some chocolate and a coke.

Try drinking an ice cold glass of water/ milk. If that doesn't work (used to with my ds1 when I got worried) then you definitely need to go in despite the hour.

More daft advice. It’s been a day and a half, she just needs to get checked immediately.

DaffodilSunshine · 06/11/2023 21:11

My local triage was on labour ward so absolutely was open 24/7

TentChristmas · 06/11/2023 21:11

Adding another voice lovely that you can phone and go in now, they will at the very least put you on the monitor, that’s what you need and that’s what they will do. Phone as you get your overnight bag together. You’ve got this and you won’t sleep now unless you go in,

Agree, have found this a stressful post. Hoping 0p is being seen.

Not to be rude but this is absolutely terrible advice and really dangerous to be repeating on a post about reduced movements. It doesn’t get ‘squished’ and your babies movements shouldn’t change right up until delivery.
I can’t believe there is a midwife on earth advising to rock back and forth on all fours or have sex to encourage fetal movements

The rocking back and forth on all fours was to give the babies more room if they became squashed or are in an awkward position. As the belly is facing down.
Movements with multiples do reduce as time goes on, several consultants also confirmed this as I didn’t have anything like the movements that I had with my first singleton and became very worried with the two after.
So I think the midwife was spot on there.

24 hours a day though? I’m in London and I’m sure our MAU closed at a certain time. Maybe A&E? I don’t know perhaps I’m wrong!

I’m in the south east and went into my hospital at 1.30am for reduced movement (all was fine). There’s no hospital in the country that would tell a mother to wait until morning to be checked.

TheGhostILoveTheMost · 06/11/2023 21:13

How is that daft advice? It will take seconds to drink a glass! Ffs

You think she’s not had a drink in the last day and a half?

LadyGAgain · 06/11/2023 21:14

Ring them right now OP. In England you can go to maternity unit night or day for low movement and they will hook you up to the monitor immediately. I hope all is well.

Thankyou.
I was just passing on professional advice I was given
Quite upset that someone would be so rude.

TheGhostILoveTheMost · 06/11/2023 21:14

How many ice cold drinks have you drank today?

Alltheyearround · 06/11/2023 21:14

Not sure the chocolate and milk people are thinking here - what if she needs an emergency c section?

Shouldn't she be nil by mouth? Or can they do it anyway? (is it just general anaesthetic where its nil? )

Just wondering if OP is still reading and is galloping down sweet/cold things...

moonbeammagic · 06/11/2023 21:15

OP I know that you are scared, but please go to the hospital. Maternity care and foetal checks can be/are performed 24/7.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 06/11/2023 21:15

This is quite distressing to read OP, hope you are being seen and all is ok

Itsbecauseiamamumandlovethem · 06/11/2023 21:15

Hope you are being checked out !

HMW1906 · 06/11/2023 21:15

Why are you waiting until tomorrow? Phone maternity triage and go now….well you really should’ve gone a day ago!

Just saw your update….they probably won’t do a scan tonight but they will put you on a CTG monitor which monitors babies heartbeat and movement. You need to go tonight not wait until tomorrow! If you phone your midwife in the morning they will just tell you to phone maternity triage and go there.

Imperfectp3rf3ction · 06/11/2023 21:17

Every area has a list of who to call and when absolutely every one of them will either track heartbeat + movements or scan on a side machine. This post will be gutt wrenching for some get yourself checked ASAP instead of shunning it down.

BrutusMcDogface · 06/11/2023 21:18

Please go in and be monitored ❤️

Corilee2806 · 06/11/2023 21:19

As others have said, guidelines have changed now and trying to do anything like drinking cold drinks or having sugar to encourage movement isn’t recommended - if you feel any changes at all that are outside of the normal pattern for your baby (no 10 kicks a day or anything like that as they’re all different) you’re advised to call your MAU and go in for monitoring as soon as you can. Kicks Count is a great source of info on baby movements.

really hope everything is ok x

I assure you that if anybody found out that your midwife had given this advice she would be undergoing extra training. How old are your twins? Sounds like something a midwife would have said 50 years ago when we didn’t know better. It’s ok that you’re comfortable with the advice she gave, but please don’t pass it on to others.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 06/11/2023 21:21

I v much hope you're being seen now op and all is ok.

TrishyLou1111 · 06/11/2023 21:21

Midwife here 👋

Ideally, you need to be going this evening so baby and yourself can be checked over.

Hope you are all okay. Keep us updated x

porridgeisbae · 06/11/2023 21:22
