Nah!!!!!!!!!!!!! Loving it too much at the moment.

Those stereo moments with the DTs though..... they make me want to put the world on pause occasionally.

Had a fab night out dancing. Saw that IAMF filled the thread and didn't even start a new one

So here it is and if you don't like the title.... well it's almost 3 in the morning. What's a Mars to do?

you dont need quanitities for lasagne - you jsut throw in as much as will cover each sheet! It depends on the size of your dish really.

Can i have the beef strog recipe please? Tis brilliant - quorn have started making beef style pieces rather than jsut mince. I had quorn beef fajitas the ohter night for the first time, and they tasted heavenly.

Egg · 29/10/2007 11:56

My niece loves olives, smoked salmon, and will infact eat pretty much anything (even mushrooms, which used to be her only dislike). However her siblings are very fussy. She was raised on jars, but her siblings were raised on proper food. Hmmm.

chopsterHeadsOffEverybody · 29/10/2007 11:57

I'd have loved one of those silver crosses. Completely impratical in croydon though!

I really must get treatment, this food obsession is getting out of hand.

Egg · 29/10/2007 11:57

Forgot to say, I love Quorn mince. Esp that you can cook it straight from frozen. A godsend.

Will fish out strog recipe. It is soooooooo easy even I can do it. Will tell Squonk I am passing it round, she will be very proud.

chopsterHeadsOffEverybody · 29/10/2007 12:00

can't you cook normal mince from frozen? I do with lamb!

Egg · 29/10/2007 12:02

Have had an hour with no quality street. MUST NOT EAT ANY MORE OR WILL NOT ENJOY ANY PROPER LUNCH.

For Strog (as copied from Squonk's patented recipes...):

Firstly cut some stewing steak into small strips, then fry in a frying pan with a little oil and a chopped up onion. Fry until all the meat has gone brown, and none of it is red to look at. Add some chopped mushrooms. Then add a teaspoon full of Dijon mustard (you can use English or French, but Dijon is best) and a small tub of cream.

Simmer gently for about twenty minutes. Serve with rice.

I did actually do it with fillet steak for DS as it is much easier for him to chew, and he tends to choke because he doesn't chew properly anyway, in his rush to eat.

Egg · 29/10/2007 12:04

Actually you probably can cook normal mince from frozen, I am such a slack cook I have never tried. In fact, you clearly can, if you do and you are here to tell the tale.

I ate some very undercooked lamb on Saturday. God it was lovely. I am good on abstaining from alcohol, but some things are much harder...

chopsterHeadsOffEverybody · 29/10/2007 12:13

ooh that does sound nice. I thought strog had to have wine in it. I guess I could do that and add wine.

I wasn't good at the abstaining thing neither. Limited to one glass a wine only a handful of times, but half the things you aren't supposed to eat, I didn't even know about. And I defo couldn't give up mayo! I think the only thing I deliberately didn't eat was liver or liver pate, something to do with vit a irrc.

Egg · 29/10/2007 12:22

Aha but this recipe was especially super easy for me to make for DS, as I was asking her for help and inspiration. Am sure you could pour a bottle in to your own version , or just drink a bottle while eating it.

Oh, Kedgeree is an indian recipe, made with rice, egg, fish (think smoked haddock iirc) and curry powder, and am sure other things that I can't recall. It's yummmyyyyyyyyyyyyyy and I had it a lot when I was little.

chopsterHeadsOffEverybody · 29/10/2007 12:29

now that is strange, I've never heard of it. When you said it was indian, I had a google, and wikipedia says that it is derived from the vegetarian dish kitchuri, which is rice and lentils. Now kitchuri I adore. So it must basically be kitchuri with fish. I must try it!

chopsterHeadsOffEverybody · 29/10/2007 12:31

right I'm off for a swim with the boys. I need exercise after all this talkign about food!

Harrogatemum · 29/10/2007 12:56

chopster - I do a mean stroganoff recipe but mine is slightly different:

fry braising steak with onions and mushrooms in a little butter and olive oil. Add tablespoon of flour once all browned, then add beef stock and a tablespoon of tomato puree and either simmer on hob for about 2.5 hours or put on low heat in oven for same amount of time.

Then add small tub of sour cream and warm through before serving - yum!!

Egg · 29/10/2007 13:16

Oooh the kitchikuri sounds yummy as I love lentils (never cook them of course...).

Collected DS from nursery, he apparently ate a huuuuuuuuuuuge portion of chilli con carne and I can cook that fabulously, so must try him with mine (which he will prob refuse). He apparently had a very mixed morning though and was a bit upset today. Not sure if it is because he woke up so early, or because his favourite nursery carer is away from today as she is getting married next week, and he maybe missed her. He has gone to bed now and I am going to lie on the sofa and watch neighbours. Swimming tomorrow though!

Egg · 29/10/2007 13:16

kitchuri even

tkband3 · 29/10/2007 13:43

Morning all

ooh a foodie chat - just about my favourite topic. chopster can I come and eat at your house for the next few weeks? . I don't do much baking but I do cook every evening for me and OH and it is a source of eternal frustration to me that my children have such limited palates. DT1 is quite good at trying things and DT2 will if she's in the mood, but DD1 is just awful. I suppose it goes back to before her coeliac was diagnosed when everything she ate made her feel sick so now she just sticks to what she knows won't make her feel bad just in case. I used to chase them round the room trying to get food into them, and give them something different if they didn't like it, but now they get what they're given and if they don't want it at the table, they get nothing else - only took me 2.5 years to get there though .

Today is DD1's first full day at school - she was so excited, bless her, that she rushed in without giving me a chance to say goodbye! The other mums were all saying how awful it was and how much they were going to miss their babies - I felt like an awful mother for not feeling like that .

FG, welcome back properly! I'm afraid I'm a bit bah humbug where Hallowe'en is concerned, so I haven't bothered with a fancy name . But I do like the hallowe'en smilies .

Chuffed - welcome...congratulations on your triplets. I just have 3 in total - DD1 who is 4 and DTs (id girls) who are 2.7.

CAT - just wanted to echo everyone else. you are not failing your babies...you are giving them everything you can. best wishes for the next scan.

Oh and I nearly forgot - CONGRATULATIONS TO ESTAR . Love the name.

DTs went up for their nap 30 mins ago. They've just gone quiet, but they were reading each other 'Big Red Bath' which is their favourite bedtime story at the moment - sounded so sweet

Egg · 29/10/2007 15:25

Bugger, I don't even have a halloween one. Christmas is easy though, I can be EGGnog .

triplets · 29/10/2007 15:30

A big welcome to you Chuffed, how exciting!!! I have two boys and a girl, 10 in Jan already! Holla when you need us!
Momma, how are those gorgeous babes and how is Levi doing, triplets is feeling broody with all thses new babes about, niece expecting ivf twinnies in 3 weeks time, trying to get her to join us on here, but she is shy I think!

Egg · 29/10/2007 15:34

Ooooh triplets, how exciting for your niece to be so CLOSE to having them. Is she all prepared??? Bet you can't wait to see them, you can do all the fun bits and then go home .

triplets · 29/10/2007 15:39

Hi Egg,
Yes she is all ready and waiting, over stopped working though last week! Wish she was nearer to get hands on, she is in Hertfordshire and we are nr Dover. We hadnt even got a nursery ready when mine arrived, they delivered them at 32 weeks so it was a bit of a shock. Also the room most suitable was Matthews room and I still felt sad going in there, but Harry cracked on with it whildt they were in special care. Still call it Matthews room now, which isnt really fair on the boys, although they don`t mind, its other people who think its wrong!

Egg · 29/10/2007 15:45

Oh no, not near enough so you can pop round when your trio are at school and have cuddles with them . My sis is sad that she is two hours drive away and wont be able to pop in and see me either, and as she has three dc of her own she can't just up sticks and come for the night when she wants.

God it must have been hard putting them in Matthew's room, but at least DH did all the sorting so you didn't have to. It's nice also though as means that he is watching over them in there now .

chopsterHeadsOffEverybody · 29/10/2007 16:24

triplets tell her to get a move on, we won't bite!

Hm, your version sounds a lot more similar to mine, 'cept I use wine instead of stock! The sour cream is great, I found that out by accident one time I had forgotten to buy single cream. I do try not to use stock too much, because dt2 is intolerant to msg. I really must start making my own stock.

tkband, of course you can, the more the merrier! Tonight is jacket potatoes with chilli and cheese and salad.

Are we supposed to feel bad when they go to school? I danced out of the playground with my lot! I'm counting down the months until the dts do 5 mornings instead of 2.

chopsterHeadsOffEverybody · 29/10/2007 16:25

egg, can't she leave her dc with their dad? I'm off gallivanting this weekend, up to Norfolk to visit my parents. I'm just taking the older two, since there isn't room for all four.
