C'mon girls. Got bored of waiting and started the new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yep two sacs. I was a bit relieved as know there can be more problems with identical twins than non. I already think it is two girls (prob cos I really want two boys ).

egg - dh was convinced it was two girls, ds1 thought it was two boys (he hoped!!!) and I thought one of each. Of course I was right

moulimoo · 25/06/2007 20:58

congratulations Egg! Great news. You will be fine, you just have to cope with what life deals you!!My dts (id boys) were born when dd was 33 months. Had some hairy moments but bascially it has been great and they are all happy healthy children. dts now 21 months. wish you well in your pg xxx

SomethingIncrediblyWitty · 25/06/2007 22:15

Congrats egg! Pretty new to MN myself - wish i'd known about it when i was pg with twins!
On subject of am sacs- thought you could get id twins with separate sacs?

triplets · 25/06/2007 22:38

Where are you Frumpy, awaiting news of the ball before I go to mine on Sat! Cinders went into town this morning looking for a frock, bad move after the triple mirrors did their job on me, felt like I was in a Trinny and Susannna shot, came out feeling fat and old! Bought nothing, help!!!!!!!!

Egg · 26/06/2007 07:46

Morning ladies. Did not get much sleep last night [yawn]. Yes I did read yesterday that you can still have ID twins with two sacs, but it is less likely (I think). I guess what I mean is I am glad there are two sacs... hope that makes sense!

chopster · 26/06/2007 08:18

dozily looks up from a beach in brisbane.

egg, try to relax! I remember those early days and I didn't get a lot of sleep neither. You really have to make the most of the 9 months you have before they arrive. Go out lots! Book a holiday. Once they are born you will find it hard to get a break for a while.

Egg · 26/06/2007 08:29

Thanks Chopster .

Talking of hols, we had planned to go away end of September (not booked yet) to Egypt. I will be 5 months pg. We have been to the hotel before twice, and it is a lovely place, but will a six hour flight be a bit much? And have any of you found you are more intolerant of heat when pg with two or more?

chopster · 26/06/2007 08:34

I can't help too much there. I was carrying over winter. I don't think the flight will be too long in terms of comfortableness, but I do wonder if you will be able to get certified. Is there any way you could bring it forward? I would speak to a doctor pronto.

Egg · 26/06/2007 08:47

Got GP appt tomorrow as scan lady advised me to speak to GP asap about my "new" situation. Could bring hols forward, but not to same place as too hot any earlier in summer. Will wait and see what doc says.

So you are on a beach? Really?

tkband3 · 26/06/2007 08:58

id twins almost always have separate sacs - mono-amniotic twins, who share a sac, are really quite rare and are quite high risk. Id twins generally share a placenta, but there are cases of id twins where the placenta has split and also cases of non-id twins where the placenta has fused! All v. confusing . If you have any doubt when they are born, you can arrange for a DNA test through the Multipile Births Foundation to be absolutely sure.

Egg, I'm not sure I'd have found a 6 hour flight, particularly with my toddler as well, particularly comfortable at 5 months...I wasn't particularly big, but it was difficult to get comfy and sleeping was hard too. Sorry!

SomethingIncrediblyWitty · 26/06/2007 11:19

tkband3 - do you have to pay for the test - and is there any possibility of it being done when the twins are older (say, oooh, 9!)? Cos when mine were born they had seperate placentas, and looked nothing like each other. They grew to look more alkie as they got older though, but it would be really helpful to know for sure so i don't keep saying to people when they ask if they are id..."errrr, I dunno"

tkband3 · 26/06/2007 11:50

you do have to pay unfortunately...I think it's about £80. But I think the test is done using DNA, so doubt there's a time limit! Check here for details.

moulimoo · 26/06/2007 13:04

tkband3 is right, most id twins are sep sacs. two babies sharing one sac is rare and complicated. mine were sep sacs - and are truly id- even dh still gets them wrong!

I love Paphos. We have been there a couple of times. Think I will see what doc says and then worry about it nearer the time. If we do go to the hotel in Egypt we like we wont even leave the hotel, and we have everything we need on our doorstep more or less.

Having throbbing pain on right hand side, feels kind of like ovulation pain, have not had it before. It woke me up from my nap as it was quite painful. Any ideas???

Egg · 26/06/2007 19:40

Oh, on the ID / non ID thing. The scan lady said to me "they are fraternal blaa blaa" etc. Surely if most twins are in separate sacs, then she couldn't tell? What was she talking about? Gah. Too much confusion for the likes of me.

oooggs · 26/06/2007 19:42

isn't it that non id twins have a placenta each and id twins share? Nothing really to do with the sacs.

Egg · 26/06/2007 19:43

Ahhhh I think you might be right . I really ought to find out a bit more .

oooggs · 26/06/2007 19:45

hey Egg 'I know nothing' just guessing really - (I don't really have twins )

tkband3 · 26/06/2007 19:46

Egg, ooogs is right. Non-id, or fraternal, twins, have separate placentas and sacs - really your scan lady should have been talking about the placentas rather than the sacs - sounds like she's not absolutely sure of her information . Presumably though, you'll be having another scan at 12 weeks, as you've had this early one, so you'll be able to ask more questions then. If you are having id twins, then you'll be scanned every 2-3 weeks. If they're non-id then it'll be more like every 4 weeks. But it is nice to get to see them more often than you do with a singleton pregnancy .

Idobelieveinfairies · 26/06/2007 19:49

with my first set of twins, i was told that they were non-id at the scans.

And then when they were born i was told they were identical as i had 1 placenta, membranes inbetween sacs were very thin and they had twin to twin trans syndrome.

I wasn;t convinced as they looked nothing alike but they said it was because of the 1lb weight difference.

I insisted they tested the placenta and it was sent away to the mainland. The test came back non-identical. The placentas had fused together to make one, can't explain the thin membranes or the twin transfusion syndrome though.

Very hard to tell even when they are born!!!

Egg · 26/06/2007 19:51

Could she have seen the placenta(s) this early on? TBH I think it was me seeing two sacs so presuming that was the reason she knew they were fraternal. Anyhoo, it is only just over 3 weeks til I see the little fishies again! Hurrah! Did I mention they are called Nemo and Dory (one of my books said baby has fins at week 7 or something).
