A new thread!
Especially for throckenholt

I was hoping the original one would go to 1000, but it was gettign a but annoying scrolling all the way done, so come over here instead.

How is everyone coping with the school holidays?

I'm fed up with the rubbish weather, as we're stuck in the house too much. I daren't take them to soft play as it packed during the hols and then I can't watch all four of them. Plus it costs a fortune.
Mine are changing so much. Rav is becoming a right wuss, scared of new places. I suppose it shows awareness, but it is annoying when I've driven miles for a nice day out and he just wants to sit and whine because he is too scared to go on anything! Shay is developing his houdini skills, and now has a tendancy to bolt out of parks so I have to watch him like a hawk. I must dig out the reins before we go on holiday.

Well I've got the cigars on standby! This bloody pacing is doing my back in! lol.

I am so praying that all is well with DD and her boys. I can't help but think about Bubble and waiting for her to post about her boys and then when the news came I was devestated! Sorry to be so maudlin! I'm sure that all will be well. I just want to see it!

Was meant to go out tonight, but my french girl who is babysitting for her board got a bloody life and is out! Gah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

leoghostlygaela · 21/10/2006 22:30

Mars, thinking about Bubble, but with her babies the hospital really screwed up didn't they? From what i have picked up it sounds as if Doris has got a really good consultant supporting her. It is only Saturday it could take at least another couple of days before we hear anything.

Going out? What is that????? We really need to remind ourselves what that is about!

Had a really nice day today, went to watch dh's niece in a dance show. Ds was totally absorbed and fascinated by the whole thing, I was thrilled that my expectations of him escaping and running onto the stage inthe middle of it all were not met - apart from his solo act before it all started ! Now he has a high fever and has thrown up, of course I tried to imagine what it will be like with 2 sick babies (and ds) that need 100% of mummy when they are sick! Its hard to imagine splitting myself 3 ways!

frumpygrumpy · 22/10/2006 21:42

Lets hope Doris' lurking friend is about .........

Lets try not to be worried - remember how crazy it gets....everyone wants a bit of you, everyone wants to help, her dd will be upside down and need security of having mummy home. It could be oooooh, ages, took me 8 months .

C'mon Doris.....I might have to start singing and dancing to entertain.....

Dorisslurkingfriend · 23/10/2006 08:42

Hello everyone - just to let you know I got a text from Doris last night. The two boys were born one hour either side of midday on Friday. First one 7 lb 1 oz and second one 8 lb 8 oz (wow). She says they're all well and happy but tired.

I'm sure she'll be in touch when she gets some time (?). In the meantime, if any of you can suggest a really useful present for her, I'd be most grateful!

throckenholt · 23/10/2006 09:24

hurray ! good sizes too (none of mine ever got near those weights ).

thanks for letting us know.

harrogatemum · 23/10/2006 09:38

Ber-limey! What incredible weights! I thought I did well with 2 x 5lb 15oz!!

Please send love to Doris and thanks for posting oh lurking friend!

As for useful presents - i would get her something for herself, she will be inundated with stuff for the babies I am sure.

KellyKrueger1978 · 23/10/2006 09:50

wow, congratulations Doris and family! What amazing weights for twins, I can't believe she was still walking around with all that weight inside.
Thanks for letting us know, doris'slurking friend. I agree with hm, get her somethign for herself, something pampering, to remind her to look after herself as well as those babies.

tracykb · 23/10/2006 13:07

WOW well done Doris - how did she manage to walk with all that baby inside her?! As for a pressie, definitely something for her...but time for pampering is limited! One of the best presents I got when my DTs were born was 3 gourmet 'ready' meals from Sophie Conran from one of OH's clients. Gorgeous pies that just needed shoving in the oven, but felt like we were having a treat as well. You can get them on-line (not cheap, but soooo worth it).

frumpygrumpy · 23/10/2006 15:40

Thanks lurking friend lovely news!! The air in devon must be good!

The best thing I got (when in hospital) was a tiny cool bag filled with cold fruit juice and a yoghurt smoothie, little bags of chopped fruit, healthy food a-mungo. The hospital food was absolutely delicious but I was really craving cold, healthy food on tap and I could dip into it whenever. (Loads of people gave me bags of toffees and other sweets and I just couldn't face them (vvvv strange for me!!)

I agree something for her would be great and I love the idea of the pies. On the baby front......lots of people gave me clothes etc and I hardly had time to dress them so they stayed in babygrows. I was given two beautiful blankets which I used on the top of all the dodgy ones when I ventured out and it made my gorgeous bundles look fantastic even when I knew they might be have crusty milk down the front of themselves .

We'll be ready for her whenever she manages to get back to us. The kettle is on and we'll keep the champagne on ice til she gets here .

MarsLady · 23/10/2006 17:59

Oh how fabby! Yeah........... DD's boys are born Thank you lurkingfriend! We want your real name now... I mean your real Mumsnet name.... none of that lurking friend rubbish lol!

Get her a cleaner.... a meal service...... but whatever you get her... get it for her!!!!!!!!! The boys will be innundated. Oh this is so so exciting!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell her the lemon drizzle cake is in the oven, so it'll be nice and hot and fresh for her. (Though we probably won't see her for months lol)

HM.... when is HD gonna call. We're all waiting to meet him (no pressure there then lol)

blackCATsandbroomsticksJ · 23/10/2006 18:25

YAY! Babies . Congratulations and well done on the weights! I bet DD feels like she's floating-mine weren't quite that big,but I was sure glad to lose that weight!

triplets · 24/10/2006 07:32

Hi,
Sending congratulations to Doris and her boys from sunny Florida, fantastic news! xxxxxxxxx

leoghostlygaela · 24/10/2006 09:06

Fantastic Doris! That is wonderful news, huge happy ! That is really something to be incredibly proud of!

!

piximon · 24/10/2006 09:29

I'm so happy to hear DD good news.
Wow I can't believe the size of them and how she still managed to move around! I'm already struggling and still have a few months to go.

Mars I'm glad your exam went well too, when do you get the results?

1becomes3 · 24/10/2006 15:51

congrats DD on the wonderful news.

Been away for a bit of sun and no computer for a week.

I have an appointment with the consultant on the 1st so I'm excited about that.

I have been feeling a bit weird like I am on a boat all the time, started last week.
any ideas what it is, if I am lacking something? or how to get rid of it?

MarsLady · 24/10/2006 15:56

Hiya Piximon... I get my results in December, cue another drunken day and night. We need to sort out when I'm popping down to meet you now

Harrogatemum.... HarrogateDad called! So I've dusted off the turquoise negligee and he's coming round tomorrow. I'm so impressed. I didn't think he'd call lol! So beef casserole for dinner tomorrow... just have to decide if it's wine or guinness in it. Oh and I've baked a lemon drizzle cake

FG........ how's half term treating you? Or isn't it half term where you are?

I start my french OU course on the 1st November. I've been wandering around thinking it starts in February, but it starts next week gulp!!!!!!!!!! Had a lovely night out salsa-ing yesterday. Then today we played hide and seek with the cleaner. We had to keep swapping rooms... weather was terrible and I was too lazy to take the kids anywhere!

MarsLady · 24/10/2006 15:57

1becomes3... probably just your hormones love! Don't forget to keep us posted with what the consultant says. It's so lovely sharing another twin pregnancy.

harrogatemum · 24/10/2006 16:13

aha MArs I knew he wouldnt let you down! Make sure you wear some serious high heeled mules with the negligee, he is 6 foot 3 remember! IT is really kind of you - thank you for being so hospitable to a lonely Aussie in London!

Didnt know you were doing a French course next.....do you speak some already? I did it at A Level and like to think I am passable at it so if you ever need any practice I can email you suitable conversation en francais!!

Have had my first proper days maternity leave today - i.e. the DTs have gone to nursery. I met up with a friend at the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds and got mad looking at lots of lovely things for non-pregnant people, wanting to buy them and not being able to as I dont know what size I will be after the baby is born - aaaagggh just want to give birth now!! WEll soon ish.

MarsLady · 24/10/2006 16:16

The french course is for the points really so that I can finish the degree quicker. It's beginners French really. The equivalent of a GCSE. I need 180 points to finish my degree and I do 60 points a year, but if I add French then I can do 90 points for 2 years.

Happy to have HarrogateDad. He didn't sound shy on the phone... have remembered the high heeled mules. Got some feathery ones.... they haven't seen action for a while lol! I do feel sorry for him though. It's half term and he'll arrive as the house is going mental. Still, he's bringing wine! You've gotta love that man!

harrogatemum · 24/10/2006 16:23

well you know where I am if you need any assistance with any homework (do you get homework?) What am I on about - your kids probably study French do they? I am so out of it I wouldnt have a clue if French is still on teh curriculum at most schools. I thought I might be able to help with that list of books you posted on another thread, but embarassingly had none of them....and I consider myself well-read.

MarsLady · 24/10/2006 16:28

lol... I was amazed at my lack of those books as well.

Yes I'll have homework. What I'll do is phone you up to tell you about HD's exploits at our house and I'll tell you in French! Yes the kids do do French at school and probably will be rather helpful, though they can't believe I would willingly take the subject up. DS1 prefers learning German! lol

harrogatemum · 24/10/2006 16:34

oooh I did German too - my degree was in German and Russian (totally useless - i.e. never used it since).

Just about to ring HD on my way down to nursery - pleased to hear he didnt sound shy - he isnt, but I think that goes with the territory of being Australian - they dont have the British stiff upper lip thing, or the fear of saying what you really think!

On a totally different note - can anyone advise if they think you can carry a baby in a sling if you have had a C section? I am a bit worried as baby not yet turned and worried my end up having to have a section and that getting dts to nursery in the buggy and baby in a sling may be difficult with wound......could be totally wrong but have no ideas.......any thoughts?

MarsLady · 24/10/2006 16:36

Have you been down on all fours scrubbing floors HM? That's an excellent way to turn a baby! And yes you can carry the baby in a sling. You aren't allowed to carry anything else!

tracykb · 24/10/2006 19:26

HM - have you tried acupuncture for turning the baby? It's apparently v. effective.

Mars - my degree was in French so if I can be of any help....not that I get much use from it these days, but Paris 1987 was a blast!!

1becomes3 - have your iron levels been checked? I started feeling a bit dizzy and faint and it was because I needed iron supplements - might be worth checking with your consultant next week.

harrogatemum · 24/10/2006 19:35

oooh no not tried acupuncture but did try it for sickness in the early days of pregnancy and am sorry to say that it made no difference. I had about 5 sessions and then decided not to spend any more money on it.

Re scrubbing the floors Mars - no (ssshhhh my cleaner does it...) but I do spend a lot of time on all fours picking up the 30 Thomas the Tank Engine books that the DTs have spread around the house (or "Mummy, choo choo" as they put it) so does that count?
