Evening ladies, what wonderful news Mama, no more hiccups!
Well a lot has happened since we last met!
At 12.10am whilst in slumber (feeling poetic) I was awakened by the carbon monoxide detector in our sitting room going off. Dh got up and switched it off, we have had this happen periodically since weve had the log burner put in there. He put it back on the shelf and opened a window and it didnt go back off, see we went back to bed. At 02.10am the second detector in our airing cupboard next to my bedroom went off, boy did it. It woke all of us up and really made me jump, I tried to turn it off but it wouldnt stop. Felt panicky, 2 alarms to me meant carbon monoxide , went into kids and woke them up and opened their windows. We couldnt stop the alarm, so I called 999.Operator asked which service and I said I didnt know it was my c/m detector but we were all ok. She repeated which service and I replied the same answer, she then said she couldnt put me through to anybody unless I chose a service. So I said fire service as they install these things free of charge. Fire service answer, take my details then tell me it is nothing to do with them, I must immediately phone my gas company. Alarm now screeching for 20 mins! Phone gas comp and its an automated reply, press 1 to change my payments/press 2 to arrange a service etc.....so now feeling very panicky I press nothing and hold. A human answers, takes details, tells us to turn off main gas supply and open window in all rooms, then says they need to come out and will do so in the next 2 hours
So I send dh back to bed, check kids all fast asleep and I sit on the sofa with the curtains open to await engineer, dh needed to try to sleep as he was taking James down to Portsmouth at 8.30am. At 4.14am safety engineer arrives, ask me lots of questions, dh comes back down and engineer wants access to our meter. After 20 mins he cant access it enough as its in my front porch shed, so he closes us down, cuts off our gas! Tells us we must take out our tumble dryer and most of our shelving and they will send another engineer out in the morning, checks we are all ok and leaves. I eventually get back into bed at 5am but cannot sleep, thinking how lucky we were, thank god for a detector! Alarm goes off at 6.45am goes down to find dh laying table for b/fast, he then says he needs to be home when the engineers return so could I take James! 40 mins later we are all ready drive out of the estate and a British Gas van pulls up at our house. So I tell him dh is dropping us at the station and will be back in 10 mins, he says the emergency service asked him to come out to look at our appliances because we have had a c/m leak, but if we like he can leave it until tomorrow! Noooooo I say we have been disconnected, no gas, so he says he will wait. So I meet up with another lad at the station whose mum contacted me and asked if her lad cold travel with us. So at 8.30am feeling completely blitzed we set off. James was very quiet most of the way I can imagine how nervous he must have been feeling. We had to make two changes and eventually arrived in Brighton at 12.20pm where I left them after putting them on the train to Southampton, no time for long goodbyes as my own train back left in 3 mins! Felt so strange pulling out of the station leaving him there, but I didnt cry! Finally got back home at 4.30pm, exhausted! The news here was emergency services could find no fault with the appliances so are saying its coming from the wood burner. British Gas came out and reconnected us and charged up £50, they checked our loft where our flue pipe is and said we had a tile missing in the roof which could be affecting our ventilation, also said we should up date our 17 yr old boiler! So dh has asked for a quote and a home visit on Thurs, I cant believe boilers only last 16/17 years!! So that's been my day, oh also Thomas bombards me the minute I get home, his Hudl he had for Christmas is broken, it wont charge..................excuse me......."SCREAM".......
Then at 9pm James phones sounding very grown up to says its going fine........................and I wanted to bawl my eyes out........what a day! Oh yes on top of all that there was a security scare, suspect package delivered to HMS Collingwood today............where James is staying!!! Hoping for a good nights sleep! xxx
