Oh bubs!

Hope you get your perching stool back in its correct place today.

Been back to drs today as I'm just so flat. Had meds upped again Hmm and back again after our little trip to centre parks at the end of the month. Also have a very sore thumb which has a split right on the tip, which of course is the part used the most. Ouch!

Joshua and Jennifer have been having fun today, well, I say Jennifer. I swear she has spent most of the day asleep. We got up, had breakfast, went to school. They both slept through sticker assembly. Asleep in the car to drs. Asleep in the car back from drs. Asleep for an hour or more when I took them in from the car. They've both had some dinner and a bottle, Joshua went to sleep. Jennifer had a cuddle and.... went to sleep. She's still asleep now and I know she will still sleep tonight. Isn't it 9 months where they have another growth spurt? Hoping its just that.

Re the hyper mobility thing - bubs and chops did yours find finger foods a faff? I've noticed lately that Jennifer kinda gets herself in knots with food to mouth. She's ok with fat round things like the organix carrot puffs and deli breadsticks. But flat biscuits/thin beans, well more of those seem to end up everywhere other than her mouth, she tries to hold them with the tips of her fingers, but then the food never gets to her mouth easily as she's holding it too close to her wrist. Joshua certainly doesn't have the same problem and even wolfed down a few biscuits when I carelessly left the packet on the coffee table and took him out of the highchair.

I've been charging around all day

Been having a mass ebay of unwanted wins for holiday funds. Then I got an email from Tourism Quebec to say we have been upgraded to a suite for the hotel! Grin It's a lounge, a bedroom, two bathrooms, upper floors with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the city. I am sooo excited. Kids have all been offloaded, and dh and I will be going.

Jack did have problems with food, we were never quite sure how much of it was hypermobility and how much was sensory issues though! He always held things in a odd way, it's difficult to grip when you fingers bend both ways. I think unless she is getting frustrated, let her carry on. How old is she again?

Exercises we were recomended were things like playing with playdough, drawing in sand, waving ribbons around, - lots of things with big movements. You may also find that she finds a way to do it eventually my stabilizing herself against something. DS1 tended to keep his elbow tucked tightly by his side when doing fine motor stuff - I think it helped him control the other joints.

Chopstheduck · 11/01/2013 18:17

Just realised you said 9 months, duh! Not quite sure how much of that is suitable for 9 months, but along those lines would be good.

bubby64 · 11/01/2013 20:49

Hi Soks, yes, small or flat things he found difficult, but he tended to eat all food with his fingers until we got the chunky cutlery, I felt really guilty because I kept telling him off for eating with his fingers instead of a knife and fork, and it was only when OT mentioned it I realised its was because using a normal knife and fork actually hurt his hands!!

Ruby, can we swap DHs????Grin
Mind you, mines not so bad this morning, bowel of cereal and cup of tea, plus he has vacuumed downstairs and been nagging DSs to bring down dirty washing from their bedrooms. I wonder if he will have any more luck that I get with that! Mind you, if they don't bring it down, he won't go looking for it like I usually do, so they won't get clean clothesGrin Grin
My plaster cover arrived this morning, so I am going to attempt a shower later - bliss!

triplets · 12/01/2013 14:37

Bubbs..........a bowel of cereal :o hope you enjoy your shower, did you get the cover from Limbo? I am soooooooo bored, dh is driving me insane, one of those days when we need to keep out of each others way. Dd has her friend here and they are in the kitchen making a mess cakes. One ds is out with his mates, the other is on the x-box. Its now chucking it down with icy rain.....................I don`t do Jan/Feb/March so gloomy:(

Sokmonsta · 12/01/2013 21:51

Chops & Bubs thanks again. I'm sure I can get the play dough out with her, even if she just squishes it. I've been playing lots of 'horsey horsey' and 'row your boat' (which she loves).

Ruby my mil would say you need a wormy brick. No idea. But every time one of us is under the weather or ill, she trots that one out. Very sweet bless her. I'm looking forward to snow I'm afraid. I love crisp, cold weather - the beauty of frosted spider webs and things like that. Plus we have a squirrel which bounds in and out of the garden for the walnuts from an overhanging tree. But I understand that it's not for everyone.

bubby64 · 12/01/2013 23:57

Trips- bowel Grin blooming auto correct Grin yes, got a limbo one, and I was going to try for the shower this afternoon, but due to the meds, I fell asleep for most of the afternoon, woke in the dark dying for a drink, only to find everyone had gone out! They had gone to KFC for tea as DH didn't want to disturb me, but it was a bit nerve racking to find everyone had gone out, no note to say where they had gone, my phone out of power, walking aids were all downstairs, the commode was the other side of the room, no drink or snack left. It was another hour before they came back. TBH, I was quite scared to find out how helpless I was! It's ok if your prepared, quite another if you are not. DH said when he got home that he hadn't wanted to disturb me, but I have asked that he never do that again

OP posts:
Chopstheduck · 13/01/2013 07:40

Morning girls

You really need to keep some bottles of water and snacks by your bed bubby, and the phone charger! Ds had one of those limbo things, they are rather good. Thought we did struggle getting over his first cast as it was rather bulky, but once he changed to the light weight one it was fine. There is a pic on my profile of him on the beach wearing it. :)

NO SNOW ALLOWED. Whatsoever. I will get plenty of snow in Montréal, I have no wish for snow in this country whatsoever. Our hopeless train system will grind to a halt, dh will be working from home, the kids will be off school, and I will be driven up the wall by all of them, and not able to go for runs.

Ruby - I completed week 1! I'm enjoying it more and more, though still can't ever imagine getting to 5k. Have lost 7lbs Grin

Chopstheduck · 13/01/2013 08:16

Oh and shabs, meant to say - you're welcome, and glad it got there safely!

bubby64 · 13/01/2013 12:44

Ok, DH is already getting bored of this carer lark. He made a nasty comment this morning about "running around carrying out my orders!" I had asked him for the extension lead in so I could charge my tab and phone, and reminded him that if he was going to take the boys swimming+get the bits of shopping we needed(bread, milk etc) he would need to go down the local shop and get the money out of the post office account before it shuts at 12. (I had been saving the child allowance in there for the past 2 months as i knew we would not have much money in the normal account until friday, as i am being moved onto monthly pay at the moment insread of weekly) Sad Confused Was I being unreasonable in my requests?? I really don't know any more.Blush
Chops - i agree i could do with drinks and snacks being up here, as again i had been left stranded upstairs most of the morning. He bought me a cup of tea at 10am but no breakfast, and stayed downstairs playing the Xbox.Sad Sad until he went down the shop to get the money (he left it until 10 minute before they closed, just to prove a point, i think) James and Mike came up and helped me downstairs, then asked if I want anything, they got me breakfast (at 12.15!) He has now taken them swimming, and TBH, I'm glad he has gone and left me on my own.Envy Envy

Aww bubby. I'm out ATM but yanbu!!! Will reply properly later x

bubby64 · 13/01/2013 18:53

Well, whilst they were all out, I managed to get myself into the shower, wash my hair, get changed and get downstairs. Took a long time and some pain on my part, but it was worth it. DH has come home apologetic and contrite this afternoon.

OP posts:
Chopstheduck · 13/01/2013 19:05

Oh that is good. I think you need to rope the boys in a bit too, they are plenty old enough to do a bit of running and fetching. Then you dh might not feel so put upon. I think tbh if I was laid back, dh would be appalled at how much he would have to do, men don't seem to notice half the work that gets out in at home!he always leaves things til the last minute too!

bubby64 · 13/01/2013 20:31

The boys try their best, it's my own fault, I've mollycoddled all 3 of them, getting on and doing what needed to be done, and only made the boys do their set chores, not expecting them to do much more, and now it's come back to bite me in the bum!
I am asking them to do much more now, and its shocked them a bit, they try, but their efforts are a bit half-cocked, so to speak!

Evening ladies, poor you Bubbs, crack the whip I say! Men are all the same, its inconvenient when we are not well...............when I had the Norovirus before Christmas after spending the whole night on the bathroom floor, dh came into my room and said "youll be alright wont you if I go down the allotment for an hour"? He was gone nearly 4 hours, kids forever at my door asking when lunch is? Hopeless lot all of them. Dd had a friend here all day y/day, they asked if they could bake some cakes. I was going to the post office and told them yes as long as they clear up! I had to scribble down the recipe and oven time etc. Was only out about 20 mins, came back and they were putting the mixture into the baking cases, sink piled up with bowls, spoons etc. I calmly said they could wash up whilst the cakes were in the oven, then noticed it wasnt even on. "what the hell" said dd, you didnt tell us you had to put it on! Oh my life...........................have they no common sense these days? At her age I was doing everything and almost bringing up my two youngest brothers. Apart from that I have had a very boring weekend and long for Mon morning! xx

Morning girls x

Trips and bubby, you BOTH need to crack the whip and get those kids in order! I'm lazy, so mine can do pretty much anything apart from ironing or anything involving heavy machinery Grin Set tasks is def a start.

Grin @ your dd not turning the oven on! dd can make cakes, cook dinner, actually she does a very good line in fresh pasta, and her tortiliini are better than mine! She is scatty and will often make mistakes, but on the whole she is pretty helpful.

DT2 had his first go at doing dinner a few weeks ago, just ready made dried pasta with a jar of sauce and some garlic bread, and loved doing that. I don't tend to trust DS1 with hot things so much, he would drop them because of his fingers. He is also incredibly messy, being so clumsy. I should let him do more, but I can't bear the mess.

They can all hoover, dust, clean, operate the washing machine, tumble drier and dishwasher. Most of the time I will do it, but if I am running short on time, I delegate!

trips, you say you were doing everything from a young age, I wonder if that is why you do so much for yours. My mum was the same - her mum died shortly before she was 13, her dad had died years before. So she had to do everything, and then bringing us up, we barely had to lift a finger. Both my parents had pretty tough upbringings and I think they didn't want the same for us, so we got spoilt a bit. I never used an oven until I left home, or a washing machine.

I've had a manic weekend. Sat we went to Ikea, and I now have all my recipe books on a shelf instead of stuffed under the stairs. Plus I spring cleaned my wardrobes and all the crap on top of them. Sunday we went to selfridges (won a gift card) and to lilywhites to buy the last of the skiwear for our Montréal trip. Never actually been skiiing, but thinking I will have a go at cross country, since it is flatter, plus I want to go tobogganing and ice skating Grin It can be -14-16 there, so we've had to get properly kitted out.

So after all that running around, I've lost 9 LBS this week Grin And I had my first go at week 2 of the couch to 5 k, and I really enjoyed it.

Piggin' Piggin' snow falling heavily here....according to both newspapers and telly the North West will NOT get any snow......... Son in a wonderful grumpy mood.....has left 3 coats in his locker at school and has gone to school in his Man City winter coat that is about 2 sizes too small for him - apparantly its MY fault.............little swine!!

Chopstheduck · 14/01/2013 09:36

Oh jack does that all the bloody time. We've had half term holidays where all three coats are at school!

We woke up to a dusting and it is lightly snowing now :(
