I was in a lift the other day when a lady walked in and said "Oh look Twins - oh no they cant be haven't got matching shoes on" I did this Confused then said " They are Twins they are just wearing different shoes" Grin

So apart form the usual handsfull and double trouble - what funny comments have you had ?

Omg that's too funny lol!! Silly people. My id boys are 9 months now and when they were babies I went to supermarket and someone asked me if they were real.......why would I be pushing a pram with dolls hehe. I've had all the usual stuff too though like double trouble, are they identical, do they run in your family bla bla bla I'm actually thinking of printing a leaflet to hand out to people :) haha.

nannynicnic · 23/05/2012 21:33

I looked after twins last year, and everyone used to ask if they were identical... They were a boy and a girl....!

Erin1888 · 24/05/2012 12:51

"Are they twins?"
Let's see... they are in a double buggy, dressed the same, they look EXACTLY the same and I am on my own. No, I can totally understand why you would doubt they were twins Hmm

MuckingFuddle · 24/05/2012 13:52

I have 6 mo b/g twins and have also been asked several times if they are identical.
DTS is a bit bigger than DTD (like 3 lb heavier) and I was asked the other day'oh you have your hands full, what is the age gap', to which I replied 'er, 7 minutes?', they obviously really did not think they were twins!

faeriefruitcake · 27/05/2012 10:53

B.O.G.O.F., sooooo bored of hearing B.O.G.O.F.

'but they are identical aren't they?' To my 3yr old g/b twins, erm no he has a penis she doesn't.

'you must be exhausted!' Yes I am, come and do my housework for me please.

And my favourite (when they were about 1 and walking) 'you didn't wait long before having another one' to which I replied 'nope 20mins, the're twins'

MuckingFuddle · 27/05/2012 12:53

B.O.G.O.F.F really gets my goat too - They are 2 for the bloody price of 2.

The ID b/g thing really makes me chuckle.

It is lovely that people show an interest but some of the things they come out with are very funny.

Ha ha! The one that gets me is 'oooh, double trouble'. I swear the next time someone says that to me I'm going to punch them twice in the face! But the worse and really quite offensive one is 'thank god I don't have twins' (!) as if its ok to say that to someone!

MuckingFuddle · 29/05/2012 21:39

Tinks that one really pisses me off - how bloody rude. I never know what to say when people say that. Another Mum at a play group told me she would kill herself if she had twins. Shock I really didnt know what to say but felt like I should defend my babies iyswim - I ended up saying something like "well thats a bit drastic, I love having twins"

xkatyx · 30/05/2012 09:34

I agree with the above comments!! My ID girls are 5 months!!

I always get asked if there boys, there have a lot of dark hair which always ha a hair band or clip, always in pink etc, rather annoying!!

I have had the "I would kill myself if I found out I was having twins" it is so so so so rude!!! I made a snappy comment back once and said "well u sound like a nice mother" and walked off!!

Always have to explain my family history when going through "is there twins in the family"

And my personal fav is "I would lie towns" which is lively but I don't think people realise how hard it is and just assume its easy.

My dd is 11 months older than my twins I always get asked if there tripplets [confussed]

xkatyx · 30/05/2012 09:35

Sorry my predictive text ( love twins)

Randomkath · 30/05/2012 12:07

I can smile politely to the usual comments, although my patience does start to wear thin when i hear "ooh a boy and a girl" for the hundreth time that day when my girl twins are both dressed in pink.
What really winds me up is when complete strangers feel they can comment on my small size saying things like "how on earth did you fit twins in there" like there's some kind of weight restriction. Grr, so rude!

Mabelface · 30/05/2012 12:17

I have 13 year old triplets (KentDee, you will regain some semblence of normality eventually), 2 boys and a girl. I used to get "did you use fertility? Are they natural?" Very rude, intrusive questions. Thankfully, once they're out of the buggy people don't tend to notice so much.

Ghanagirl · 30/05/2012 17:53

I've got 4 year old g/b twins and have been asked if they are ID, once by a paediatric surgeon who was about to operate on my little girl! Someone said are they twins replied yes to which she replied don't you feed that one, as daughter was very small, that was very upsetting at the time as she was very unwell, also had someone say at a gymboree class I'd hate twins to which I replied at least it keeps me trim, she was a large lady and I'm tiny, mean I know but she was so bloody smug!

Twiceover · 30/05/2012 19:22

"Are they twins?"
"yes"
"are they both yours"
"ye-es"
No, I've done a swap with a friend for the day?!

Also (I have two girls) "what a shame you didn't have a boy and get it all out of the way at once. Now you'll have to try again"
What????

toomuchpink · 30/05/2012 20:35

"Twins? They comfort each other." Mine dont (9mths). They get together and moan.

bigboobsatlast · 31/05/2012 12:23

ha ha have loved reading this! My ID twin boys are only 4 weeks but the amount of times people have said 'so glad I don't have twins', 'hope I am not having twins' etc etc REALLY pisses me off. So you wish you weren't me then? So rude, and I immediately have to defend the boys saying how easy they are (they're not :-) )

Get stopped all the time while people stare at the boys... don't mind too much as like showing them off , until they ask how I conceived - PISS OFF!

And health professionals, including a midwife, asking if I was having one of each even though they knew I was having ID twins!!!

Sinkingfeeling · 31/05/2012 12:30

Did you choose to have twins? [yes, I ticked the twins box before we ttc]

You must have done in-vitro (American colleagues) [how very nosy - would you like me to ask probing questions about how your (single) children were conceived?]

It must be so much easier having twins than having one because they entertain eachother [yes, it's very easy indeed, shame they don't feed eachother, bath eachother
and change eachother's nappies]

If I found out I was having twins, I'd throw myself off a bridge [I wish you would]

Which one do you prefer? [the one who isn't screaming]

MuckingFuddle · 31/05/2012 12:54

Grin does this sound familiar ?

ha ha love it!

workshy · 31/05/2012 13:01

I'm a twin and I have to say the twin comments don't stop

people that knew I was a twin, when I was pregnant, would ask me if I'd avoided twins -bet you are glad it skips a generation, do you want twins? you'll know how to handle them! wtf? how would I know how to look after twin babies, strangely enough I don't remember being a baby Hmm

also when I talk about my brother people will ask if he is younger or older and when I say he's the same age people will either say -'so who was the accident being born so close together??' or 'ooo twins -are you identical?'

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 31/05/2012 13:14

i have a few friends with twins (there are 4 sets in our 2 class reception year. and i am currently pregnant, i have been know n to say i hope it's not twins, but only because I already have 2 dc's and i wouldn't know where to putthem all Blush please don't throw buns at me!

being with a group of friends including a lady who is a ID twin recently, we bumped into her ID twin sister, and somebody in the group kept commenting on how alike they looked Hmm i do find it strange when their whole families are together though as they both have b/g twins a year apart, and their b/g twins are almost spitting images of each other, so i get a bit confused with who's who Blush

Jupe01 · 31/05/2012 13:26

I have 8 year old twins and have often wondered why people feel they have the right to be so invasive about them?

"Are they natural?" essentially means "Did you conceive them naturally?" Would anyone enquire about the circumstances of any other singleton child's conception?!

My favourite comment however was from a stranger in the street who asked whether my boys were identical. When I said they weren't, she replied, "Never mind!" I nearly laughed my socks off!!!!
