The antenatal group is nearly full, any graduates fancy joining forces to compare

Hello dream lovely to see you here!
You know I had exactly the same thing with ricky, he was 2.310 kg at birth. Same here they wanted to see him gain weight, and readmission was mentioned too. Luckly it has not been necessary, hope itll be the same for you. Good to hear dd has taken it well so far!

We've had our worst night too last night with dts crying and feeding on and off from 8pm to about 1am, when they calmed down but still took a while longer before they fell asleep.., they then woke up every 2 hr and 1/2! I was on my own too so feel very zombie like today.
they're only 9 wks so hoping things will improve.

Happy birthday silver, enjoy the wine!!

Congratulations Dreaming, and what lovely names! My dt2 was only 4 lbs 14 when she was born, and lost nearly 10%, but re-admission was never mentionSed! Obviously different areas do it differently! Good luck with the bfing, but remember don't beat yourself up if you have to top up/change to formula - you're feeding 2, and trying to cope with DD aswell - all exhausting!! My milk seemed to take alot longer to come in than it did with dd1.
And happy birthday Silver, hope you enjoy the wine! :)

claireinmodena · 11/04/2012 04:53

Happy birthday silver!!

rednellie · 11/04/2012 20:03

Happy Birthday silver! DD had croup recently so I empathise - they do sound shocking at night don't they?

Has anyone got any advice on tandem feeding once the boys get too big for the breast feeding cushion I've got? I'm thinking if I come up with some other configuration they'll still fit, or maybe there's a different technique. I'm keen to carry on tandem feeding as it's so efficient...currently holding both in football holds.

ceeveebee · 11/04/2012 20:58

Happy birthday silver, hope you had a good night out!

Red, I've never used a feeding cushion. I feed them in an upright position. Hard to explain but basically I sit reclining on bed or sofa, they kind of lie on me, heads supported by crooks of my elbow and I hold their bottoms. I roll them on and off, and they latch by themselves. Will try to find a google image as am sure I didn't invent it!

Hi ladies :) Hope everyone is well!

Dreaming big congratulations! :) and i love the boys names!! I'm surprised they are talking about readmissions, he is not THAt small for a twin, our hospital let Esme home at 1.7ish kg which is pretty small..... although every hospital has different policies (and I'm in Ireland) Fingers crossed he will do well at the weigh in :)

Red i never really used a cushion with my two - for the past 2months i have been feeding them in crisscross position like so
www.netplaces.com/pregnancy/multiple-choice-two-three-four-or-more/surviving-the-first-month-home.htm

Scroll down for the crisscross picture

I now have one baby on a nursing strike!!7months old and refusing to nurse for last 48 hours - i can't work it out!! Decided to start reducing bfeeds and did 48 hours of bottle at 10pm and bottle at 2.30pm and now Clara refuses to nurse point blank. It's really surprised me to be honest! Any thoughts as what to do?might post in breastfeeding too. Still want her to nurse just wanted to not have to nurse every feed now Confused

sadly we're still not great on the sleep front we are now sleeping in shifts - me downstairs until 3/4am (noone wakes before then so he does that shift!) then i go up when first one stirs and then DH goes downstairs to sleep until work - i just keep telling myself we can go back to sleeping well - they were only 2weeks ago!!

Sorry for essay!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SILVER! xx

BB3 · 11/04/2012 22:19

Happy birthday silver x

Rednellie - sorry no help as I don't feed the girls together.

BB3 · 11/04/2012 22:22

Twinnies have you tried rubbing some milk on your nipple before attempting feeds with c, Edie prefers formula (traitor) but if she smells / tastes milk from me immediately she's ok with it (if not I get biting and with her new teeth that is not nice!!)

DreamingOfPeace · 12/04/2012 14:17

Ooh, must get on laptop at some point and see your feeding positions ceevee and twinnies . One of mine doesn't like rugby ball hold.

I wonder if the re-admission is if they're smaller and not stopped losing/ started gaining weight rather than the actual weight? so he could have weighed less and gone home if he was growing rather than shrinking iykwim? But anyway, today, little (ish!) Ben had gained 200g in 3 days with me bf like a maniac! Now its his bigger brother who hasn't gained much, 20g, - who's had equal if not more feeds but gives no warning of mega-spews and will bring huge amounts back up. So hard to stop as he's literally feeding happily, no sign of anything, then is vomiting profusely?!? DD was a vomiter, but normally when moved after her feed or when winded, not actually on the boob, so I don't know what to try for him?

Anyway, they're both just delicious and doing well though terrorising me all night...

I am struggling with lots of nausea and vomiting, think due to the diclofenac I was taking post CS. I stopped it 48 hours ago though and still can't shake the nausea... Taking anti emetics from my pg again as I can't take the pain of more vomiting on the scar. I'm still taking paracetamol regularly as advised to keep on top of pain, but wonder if i need to stop that too? How long did those who had a section take pain relief for?? Mw made me think I should carry on as she said paracetamol is good if regular but if it gets very painful 2 paracetamol won't cut it...

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 12/04/2012 14:22

Dreaming, not much advice (my Ds would vomit on the boob, when moved, when not moved...) but just cheering you on. Sounds like you're doing really great with the feeding.
As for drugs, I took the max strength stuff in hospital to get some sleep, but paracetamol didn't do much for me. Living in pyjamas helped! Smile

ceeveebee · 12/04/2012 14:30

Oh good weight gain, that's about 8 oz isn't it, more than most gain in a week! Sounds like you're doing great.

Am sure the vomiting will stop. I never had this with bf but I do remember Eliza bringing back her tube feeds in SCBU when they moved her from 1 hourly to 2 hourly feeds as her tummy couldn't cope with the larger quantities-, is it possible to over feed a bf baby though? I didn't think so.

I can't remember exactly when I stopped taking paracetamol but I think it was about 3 or 4 weeks. I used to have to take them before I could even get out of bed!

claireinmodena · 12/04/2012 15:32

Hi deeam sorry to hear you're not feeling too well, I didnt get any unoleasant side effects from painkillers so kept taking them for at least a week, but I also had bad pain from PSD. I couldnt have coped without. Do you make sure you take them on a full stomach?

We had the same weight issues and also the baby who fed more seemed to be putting on less, but caught up the following week. Is it possible he had just wee/pooed? That will make a big difference when they're this young! I made sure I'd just fed them for their aecond weighing in as was terrified at thought of readmission!

Sending positive thoughts too

DreamingOfPeace · 12/04/2012 21:28

Oh good, reassuring your bigger feeder gained less too Claire, quite possible it was a full nappy cause!

Will continue with the paracetamol and hope for quick return to stomach normality...

rednellie · 12/04/2012 21:56

twinnies - feeding strikes at that age are totally normal. Don't panic and just keep offering the breast, they will come back to it. Here's a helpful link and another one

Thanks ceeveebee, I'll give that a go. My boobs aren't huge so am finding some positions awkward as one or tother of the babies falls off the nipple! But we're doing alright - had them weighed yesterday and they've almost put on 2 lbs since birth...am very pleased.

silverangel · 13/04/2012 14:36

Dreaming -I took dicolfenac and paracetamol for two weeks after. I never had any pain and I'm sure its because I 'kept on top of it' if you know what I mean. The hospital sent me home with two weeks worth and told me to take them. If you're still feeling nauseous after 48 hours could it be something else?

BB3 · 13/04/2012 19:02

Hey dream I too took the full two weeks worth and paracetamol even though I didn't have much pain as I wanted to avoid any pain, and that's the advice my hv gave me at our last appointment. Maybe you have a bug or with dh poorly you're just doing too much and you're body is trying to tell you to slow down (although that seems impossible right now), can you ask your mw or gp to come an visit you and check you over?

BB3 · 13/04/2012 19:03

I wanted to avoid and severe pain

DreamingOfPeace · 14/04/2012 10:26

Didnt feel so bad last night and my.stomach finally seems to be settling this morning. As it built up over 3 days we thought more likely the diclofenac than a bug but hopefully I'm on the mend now! Just taking the paracetamol regularly for similar, to avoid any severe pain.

So, can anyone tell me, when will I ever get any sleep?! Boys are feeding hourly almost all night, with the odd 2 hour break and not always waking together... One I can wake and he'll feed, the other just won't be interested unless he's woken up himself... I'm really feeling it having not had more than 3 hours broken sleep a night since they were born. 10 days old today! Any tips?

ceeveebee · 14/04/2012 11:20

Glad you're feeling a bit better dream. I can't really help on the feeding as both my two were mix fed from birth for various reasons, and had bottles of ebm or ff at night, so I could share feeds with DH/DM/MIL. But if you are ebf I don't know, sorry! Are they feeding a lot during the day as well?

twinnies26 · 14/04/2012 20:06

Red thanks for the links! She has started nursing again today but only at two feeds - it's still an improvement though :) I think she is too distracted to nurse at times, she's completely obsessed with the world around her at the moment.

Dreaming i never ebf my twins either, they were ebm fed mainly at the start (premi) and also had ebm bottle at night feed as too tiny to wake up to nurse only nursed at night after 12 weeks old.... i'm sure it's pretty intense at the start to ebf twins - Sounds like you are doing a brilliant job! :) :)

The lack of sleep is a killer - it used to take us 2hours to feed them and we fed them every 3 1/2 hours! We were exhausted!! It DOES get easier in time though! :)

How are solids going for everyone? We seems to have established a few favourites now - the most being banana and avocado! :) Still having the odd projectile moment at times though!

silverangel · 15/04/2012 10:52

We're going great with the solids, the only things they won't eat are sweet potatoes and avocado. Need to give them more finger foods though but the gagging thing scares me.

We're going cold turkey on the reflux meds today, I have a gut feeling they don't need them anymore so could be a day of a lot of vomit!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend x

rednellie · 16/04/2012 05:13

Have you tried bananas silverangel? I used to think that was a relatively safe finger food for DD and she loved them, used to start by putting them on her head, but would eventually demolish and whole banana. Grin

So, DD is still biting/scratching the boys. She's done less damage the last couple of days, but its' definitely an attention thing as she often turns to me after she's done it. Also only does it after she's been really nice and lovely with them so it's really hard to predict and we don't want to stop her approaching them at all because that way leads to resentment.

Thing is, she's actually getting loads of attention at the mo so I'm at a loss what to do. We say no, then don't make a fuss about it etc etc. It's just so frustrating as it means I can't put the boys down except in the travel cot thing we've got in the sitting room...makes it hard when they're ALL crying. Ugh. Anyway, just wanted a moan, also if anyone's been there please let me know your coping strategies!

Glad you're feeling better dream, I'm only a couple of weeks on from you but I've found that the feeds are going down at night. Hope you see my message in the other thread...

DreamingOfPeace · 16/04/2012 19:23

rednellie, I can imagine how daunting the thought of all three babies is, we're struggling in the evening with two of us versus the duo and DD. From all your posts you sound very calm and capable though, it may be like being pregnant with twins when the thought of what's to come is worse than the reality?! (Bit over optimistic there perhaps!).

I'm still struggling, boys now 12 days old but they just don't settle at night. It took til 1am to get them both down at all last night, they fed, cried, puked, fed some more, fed some more... then they only slept til 2:15. I'm just so tired... they're not going any time at all between feeds in the evening and at night but happily do 3 or 4 hours on at least one, sometimes 2 occasions in the day. Very frustrating and I don't know what, if anything, I can do about it. Help?! The mw has advised against cup feeding top ups as both babies are so windy and pukey, and days they're the exception that proves the rule that bf babies aren't very windy... I'm.really dreading the nights though, long and lonely

Oh, rubbish, must dash to howling duo...
