Me, me!!! Totally exhausting myself by trying to make the most of every last minute with my PFB!!! Very worried about how she'll cope when I'm in hospital. She was unsettled and upset after going to the park with her beloved grandpa without me, wouldn't let me out of her sight when I waddled down to nag him remind them it was tea time. Argh!! She doesn't even understand babies are coming yet...she's 18 months. (7 days to go til babies!!!) . Any advice from those who've been there/ done that?

Dreaming: honestly she will be fine, my dd was 11 months old and really clingy, and she was spoilt rotten by nanny all day and until I came home :)
She doesn't understand that there are babies ( now 15 months) but she will rub there heads and say ahhhh babies, she loves them.

Everything will work out and u will be home in a routine with allying babies before you know it

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 29/03/2012 20:59

How exciting Dreaming! Mine were much less predictable, I missed the countdown stage!!
It'll all be fine, you know what to do, and there are loads of other mums who have older LO plus Dts here to offer advice.

How's weaning going for the 6 monthers? We've done 2 weeks of 1 meal of puree a day. Tried some banana lumps in Ds and it made him vomit so I chickened out Grin! Dd will eat anything BUT baby rice. Sooo, trying to work out where to put meal 2 now!

My body does not know how to go into labour. I am convinced of it. It certainly didn't twig that was what should eb happening first time around, after waters breaking, no signs of anything 30 hours later!! Hence I will be counting down to the assigned day... . Today I am in so much pain and so tired, especially dealing with DD, that I am wishing for labour- 37 weeks today, you're officially cooked babies!!!

I think I started off giving lunch, then breakfast and lunch but DD loved food at that point and we were up to three meals a day within 2 weeks!!!

BB3 · 30/03/2012 18:22

Dreaming not long to go now lovely and dd will be fine - even if there are a few bumps she will love having her baby brothers around. ds was clingy pre birth and is fine with them - he's two so obviously enjoys pushing the boundaries but it's fine really.

Weaning is going quite well we are up to three meals a day at the end of week three albeit lunch just a fruit purée and they seem to love it especially mushed roast chicken (but not baby rice! That was rejected instantly!)

The girls are starting to occupy themselves a bit more now, they'll play with their toys on the floor or in the jumparoo which is nice although we have d&v bugs here (seriously when will these bugs go away) which is a joy - I swear my bedding has never been washed so much GrinWink

Hope everyone is ok and the babies are being lovely

twinnies26 · 30/03/2012 19:36

Hi all! :)

Hope everyone is well! Rednellie how are your twins doing?!Getting bigger by the day now probably!

Dreaming i see there's not long to go - best of luck! Bet you can't wait to meet your new little ones :)

We're two weeks into solids now - the girls are just not that pushed! Confused We've had a variety of things so far - baby rice, carrot, pear, sweet potato, banana and butternut squash (which resulted in a projectile vomint incident where the three of us had to get changed! Shock Will keep going anyway, i'm sure when they are ready they will take more! We're still on one meal a day. Btw did anyone else have vomiting incidents/rejecting food?

How is everyone doing on the sleep front? Our girls have had bad cold since last Saturday so we have had a lot les sleep than usual. Thankfully they are getting better now!

X

DreamingOfPeace · 30/03/2012 20:21

Hi twinnies, my DD rejected it if she didn't like it, was very definite from the beginning that she would not eat potato, cauliflower, baby rice, and peas! I started at 5 months so had a whole month of holding off on meat/fish/dairy/wheat and found that hard. Funnily enough, she then ate brilliantly and is now down to about 5 things at 18 months serves me right for being almost smug at her well rounded taste buds . And now the only vegetable she'll eat is a pea!

Can someone give me a good shake please?!
I'm 37+1 today, vast, exhausted, heartburn, rib pain, pelvic pain, really sore braxton hicks that have been plaguing me for weeks, fully split stomach muscles making it even more sore standing, struggling with DD- you know the list. I just want to have them now and meet them!! Next Wednesday feels like forever away... So please remind me how bloody lucky I am to be complaining here at term, like I always wanted to be, about to hopefully have two big healthy babies, and that I was always desperate to get to term. I need to get a grip...

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 30/03/2012 21:24

Dreaming I'm not going to shake you because at 30 weeks I was weeping at the notion of 8 more weeks of pregnancy idiot that I am so well done you!!

claireinmodena · 31/03/2012 14:23

Dreaming you have every right to moan, the last few weeks are so hard!
At the start of pregnancy I would have been very happy to get to 39+, but by 36 I was ready to have them out, I was so uncomfortable and when it was suggested to bring the date forward a few days I jumped on it!!!

Not long now, when is the actual date?

DreamingOfPeace · 31/03/2012 16:12

The 4th April Claire, 4 days to go and counting.... I'll be 37+6 then and I'm torturing myself with 'what if there are loads of emergencies and they can't do it?' scenarios!!!

ceeveebee · 31/03/2012 17:57

Dreaming I am sure everything will be just fine. I had a planned CS and it was all perfect, they let me play my ipod and everything! Best of luck and waiting to hear the happy news in a few days time (I've lost track, do you know what sex they are?)

DreamingOfPeace · 31/03/2012 18:23

Thanks ceevee, yes, I know I'm having two boys for DD to boss about!

tiggersreturn · 31/03/2012 21:57

What is it about butternut squash? Dt2 has had a really bad vomiting response to it both times too. Dt1 thinks it great along with any other solid food he's given.

twinnies26 · 02/04/2012 20:53

Hi all hope you are all well!

Dreaming - you're getting closer to the big day!Hope you are doing well. Good luck! :)

Ladies - i now have one baby who will not stay asleep - any tips from anyone? For the first time since they were born i feel like i can't cope :( I have hardly slept in days. I can't work out why she is waking so much, perhaps teething i really don't know. She is not crying in pain, just simply unsettled.

I am still nursing the girls, so can get her back to sleep quickly if i nurse her (but trying to not create a habit here) but now when i put her back into cot she screams for about 10mins plus until eventually asleep. She just seems to want to be in my arms.... then an hour or less later the whole thing starts up again. I'm now sitting up half the night fighting with her to get back into the cot and i am starting to feel like i can't function anymore :( I've been up since 4am this morning.

I'm so tempted to just let her sleep beside me in the bed and kick DH into the far corner - but again i'm afraid of bad sleep associations setting in.

Anyone any advise?? She goes to bed no problem at 7pm all the fun starts from about 2am onwards. Her sister (who follows the same routine) sleeps happily most nights and only wakes the odd time.

Those of you with older ones what did you do when things like this happened??

ceeveebee · 02/04/2012 21:18

Twinnies, sorry to hear that you're having sleepless nights again, it will pass Smile

Although I haven't been there myself, I know my friend (who has a baby a few months older than mine) had a similar situation when her baby reached 6 months, and he is sleeping through again at 7 months. She thinks it was teething.

Also I went on a weaning course a couple of weeks ago. The woman from NCT said its common for babies to wake more when they are first weaned, which could be because the solid food has less calories in than milk? If she's genuinely hungry when she wakes perhaps she needs to have a dreamfeed again for a couple of weeks?
(As I said I am not talking from experience, just going off what I've been told)

Hope it gets better soon x

rednellie · 04/04/2012 18:42

Hello! We're still doing good here, although sleep deprivation is setting in. I don't think I've had a patch of sleep longer than 3 hours since I was 8 months pregnant...ah well.

The boys are growing, I've no idea how much because I haven't weighed them, but they look bigger and are actually filling their 0-3month clothes rather than looking lost in them.

However, I have a question for you lot - I 'think' I have quite wide diastasis in my stomach. I can fit about 4 fingers between the muscles and there's also a suspicious blobby bit above my belly button that's quite tender. Of course, I googled, and am now convinced I've got a hernia...but does anyone have any ideas/tips? I'm quite active and dance a lot so know how to activate my lower abdominal muscles, but none of that seems to make much of a difference....

PS twinnies - don't worry about bad sleep associations now. Your two are still very little and babies should wake at night (unfortunately) especially at times like weaning etc. It might be worth saving your sanity and co-sleeping until it passes, or co-sleep for part of the night until she gets through this patch. I don't think they recommend sleep training until 8/9months at least...You wont do any harm!

twinnies26 · 05/04/2012 09:45

thanks for the advise ladies! :) must be a combo of weaning and teething - looked at some of the gums they are pretty white so in places so maybe not long now?

I booted DH out of the bed last night and put him in the spare room Shock BUT everyone slept better. He is exhausted too and up sometimes at 6am so he needs abit more sleep at the moment. Clara also refuses to be soothed by him at night so he can't really do much anyway to help me.

The girls stayed in their cots until about 12.30 and 2am - then in with me and although they woke up 7times between them it was easier for me and i got more sleep! so....he might be spending more time inthe spare room until this sorts itself out - they are capable of sleeping as they had been so hopefully will pass - there is light at the end of the tunnel i'm sure??! :)

Hope everyone is well!
Got to get them up from nap now! :)

claireinmodena · 05/04/2012 11:37

hello all,

twinnies good to hear you had a better night, I take them in bed with me if they won't settle in their moses baskets, anything to get some sleep.

also, we were quite strict with dd1 but at around two she still started having problems falling asleep and ended in our bed most nights, it's not a given that if you sort thier sleeping as babies then you won't have problems later! We've had SO MANY different phases with the older dds that tbh this time I'll just do what is easier at the time. Besides they're so scrumptiously soft I can't resist a cuddle.

and talking about sleep...dtd slept 6 and a half hours last night! Shame her brother was still waking up every three, but it gives me hope!

We are also getting lots of toothless smiles, which is just delicious.

BB3 · 07/04/2012 18:25

Hey ladies, we are trying to crack sleep here too! Have managed to get girls into a good day time routine but Ayse-Rose is awake screaming for cuddles at 11.30 most nights (down about 7.30) so ends up with us. Edith-May is unpredictable, some night will go until 4am, others 1am ish but is up without fail at 5.30 every morning - yawn!

Edith-May has her bottom two teeth now (second one just broken through) and seems to be better at sleep now it's come up by Ayse doesn't seem to have any. She can sort of crawl however and is getting around the room in random circular motions! Grin

How are all the other scrumptious babies? Claire Grin for the gummy smiles!

I sometime like being without dh too as there is more space for me and the girls Wink xxx

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 10/04/2012 11:05

Morning ladies, how is everyone? I just had the worst night sleep in months. Am sort of praying the Dts have a bit of a bug (they're both full of snot) as if this is some mad sleep regression I may not cope! I do not give the remaining Easter eggs much chance of survival today Grin

dreaming get yourself over here and share your news, when/if you get a spare 2 seconds Wink!

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter and didn't have to spend too much if it boiling vegetables into submission. The joys of weaning continue!

DreamingOfPeace · 10/04/2012 16:53

Hi everyone!

My boys are here and just delicious Grin . The CS was quick and straightforward and i think we made the right choice in the end. Twin 1, Sebastian, arrived very shocked but just needed a minute of bag and mask and was fine (6lb9) twin 2, Benjamin came out like superman-he was 5 lb 10. Bf is harder than I'd thought as Ben has a fairly rubbish latch though we're doing ok. Even though he's only lost 4% of his birth weight they're re-weighing him on Thursday and re-admission has been mentioned as he's below 2.5kg (slightly, at 2.4kg or 5lb 6). I don't really know why though, surely he's still a good size for a twin? Just a bit little, a bit jaundiced and ebf, but they seem dead keen for him to fatten up faster. So I'm boobing him as much as possible. DD is being very gentle with them and a lovely big sister so far- only been home 2 days though. Some other behavioural issues with her but its a time of huge change so am being patient. So far! But oh the nights....

Chocolate is meant to be consumed day and night by those feeding twins, right??! Thank goodness for Easter babies :-)

Hope all those weaning have escaped their blenders :-)

ceeveebee · 10/04/2012 17:22

Congratulations Dreaming those are lovely names and great weights, am sure he'll be fine at the weigh in, you seem to know what you're doing!

We went to visit family at Easter, 5 hr drive each way but twinnies were fine, and slept all night in a strange room so I was very proud of them. Eliza has learnt how to blow raspberries and does it all day long, have to stop myself from cracking up with laughter! DHs cousin very kindly gave me loads of stuff for weaning (baby cook steamer/blender, loads of storage pots, sippy cups etc) so just need to buy two high chairs and will be all ready when the time comes, 5 months old this week so not long now!

silverangel · 10/04/2012 18:44

Hi everyone - huge congratulations Dreaming! Hope is all going ok and readmission isn't necessary. Haven't had time to read back through the posts I've missed as had a manic week or so, just been really really busy.

Both girls have had croup and bless them they've been fine during the day but sounding like Darth Vader at night - they slept fine but I didn't as was terrified they wouldn't be able to breathe! Pleased to say both recovered now.

Twinnies, we've had the same re sleep - a couple of weeks ago they just seemed to forget how to sleep at night. It only lasted for a few nights but I was losing the plot by the end of it and had them in bed with me. Anyway, I had dropped their 11am bottle and pulled their lunch forward to try and get them to have a 'proper' nap in the middle of the. They clearly weren't ready for it so I added the bottle back, lunch back to 1pm and hey presto - sleeping again. I've decided the big lunch time nap isn't the end of the world as long as they sleep at night! Our day is now:
7am breakfast and bottle
9am nap - 45 mins max
11am bottle, maybe very short nap after
1pm lunch
3pm bottle
There is another nap either after 1 or after 3 for about an hour, but I'm letting them decide when it is.
5pm tea
6pm upstairs for bath, story, bottle and bed.

Sophie has also been diagnosed with eczema in the last couple of weeks on her tummy and back - doesn't seem to bother her and epaderm seems to have got it back under control.

Wow, epic post! DH and Dmil are putting girls to bed and then we are going out for dinner (and WINE!) For my birthday. Tomorrow FiL arrives from USA so the madness begins again.

Hope you all had a good Easter weekend:)
