Hi everyone,

Back on mumsnet and trying to catch up with everyone. I haven't been on mumsnet much except to post questions about reflux which Max has been having and trying to cope with it and being a new mum. Whew. The boy has certainly given us a run for our money so far.

How are all of you?! I miss chatting to everyone.

CSA, CNY next year falls on the 29th Jan. That's the first day I think.

Yingers, ready for the final countdown to baby's arrival?

Blossom, how hard was it to get into the GF routine? I thought about trying it but then decided on a very loosely based TH one with E.A.S.Y.

blossom2 · 30/09/2005 12:51

hi sweetfudge... hope Max is getting better. a friend of mind had reflux with both her kids and it's a terrible time. how old is Max now??

Sorry, am i giving everyone the wrong impression - not a GF or TH expert i'm afraid. I've read both books and tried with both DDs but DD1 never took to them and it looks like the same with DD2. My only routine/structure, is that DD2 can only stay awake for 1 - 1.5 hrs at a time and so i put her down once she yawns or starts muzzling into my neck. She's on 3 hr feeds and will generally nap for 4 hrs (1 hr each nap) during the day. We swaddled and sleep trained her to go down in the evenings, which she's getting the hang of. however still wakes once or twice in the night.

So i'm really making it all up as i go along ... but DD2 is my contented little baby (at 6kgs) BIG [smile}

Hi Blossom,

Max is about 6 and a half weeks old now. His reflux is slowly going away and he's putting on weight fine.

I tried a dream feed at eleven thirty p.m. last night but he still woke up at two a.m. hungry for another feed. Hmmmm.

DH had a read of the GF book before our son's birth and he had to put the book down a quarter way into it. He looked rather stressed and said that reading it felt like there was a matron shouting military drills down his left ear....

A friend of ours swore by GF for her first son but it hasn't worked with her second boy.

Blossom, are most pregnant Parisian women you've seen all bump and svelte everywhere else? A former colleague who'd lived in Paris for a while said she'd develop an eating disorder if she fell pregnant there because all the pregnant women she ever saw looked liked they'd stepped out of a Formes maternity catalogue. I wasn't quite sure whether to believe her or not!

blossom2 · 30/09/2005 14:24

oh yes! all pregnant women in paris look like they've just steped out of a formes shop! tiny bumps, all legs and heels. but then some smoke as well during pregnancy and the doctors spend half the time telling you how little weight you need to gain during a pregnancy.

then once you have the baby, they recommend a diet! so i felt right at home during my pregnancy - NOT!!

how does sunday 29th february sound to everyone for Dim Sum in chinatown??

Pam, London Eye is only 10 mins walk and london aquarium is just next door ...

this is forward planning....

OP posts:
csa · 02/10/2005 21:34

is this with or without kids/dh/dp?

and oh, i'm glad i wasn't pregnant in paris then. i would have spent all nine months at home not daring to venture out or venturing out and feeling real depressed about it!

sweetfudge, i think with regards to gf, it really does depend on your own particular character/lifestyle/etc. i am the sort that can't live without my filofax so gf suits me to the T but then, i do feel bad sometimes when trying to arrange meet-ups cos i always have to say i can only do such and such a time. i sometimes do wish that we could just venture out with babe whenever and not worry about routines, etc. but then i like my sleep VERY much and so i guess this is a small sacrifice.

Pam70 · 03/10/2005 12:45

Dim Sum sounds good to me - echo csa re: kids / dh? If with kids, I have fussy DS who won't eat dimsum but will happily have noodles.

re: GF - I didn't think I'd be a GF type of person - I thought it was all a bit too pedantic but DD has surprised me - we struggled initially with the routine cos I always assumed that if she cried, she was hungry but it mostly turned out that she was tired and wanted to sleep! Now we've got to the point that we regularly adjust GF's routine to suit us and DD still sleeps well.

csa · 03/10/2005 13:42

my ds would just eat char siu pao (that is if he is quick enough cos his daddy loves it even more)

blossom2 · 03/10/2005 15:41

what does everyone think?? i'm easy ... DD1 will try most things but probably stick to rice or noodles, DD2 will only be about 7 months ... personally for me, if bring DD1+2 then would need dh to help (who loves dim sum), could also just take dd1 or just dd2 ...

Pam70 · 03/10/2005 15:51

If we're doing it mid-day, I'd prefer to have DH & kids around but if we were doing an evening meet-up, DH could look after kiddies in hotel!!!

We did this in Singapore earlier this year where I went out one night with my girlfriends and DH stayed in hotel with kids and then DH went out the next night with his friends and I stayed in and looked after the kids.

But really I'm happy whether it's a mid-day or evening meet-up. Mid-day might suit those travelling into London for the day better.

yingers74 · 03/10/2005 16:08

I can't do 29th feb. DD's third birthday will be 27th and as yet not sure when her birthday party will happen although often will be expected at my mum's on the sunday following her b-day. Could possible persuade my mum to have a little do in china town and meet you guys there but would not be able to offer any concrete plans till after xmas at the earliest, sorry for being pants!!!

Hmmm, would probably invite you guys to dd's party anyway, although it would take place in west london.

blossom2 · 04/10/2005 21:53

how many of us can make it on the 29th Feb 06?? and lets organise another meet up too!

yingers - personally it would be very brave to invite a bunch of strangers to yr little girl's birthday party!!

csa · 05/10/2005 09:31

LOL blossom but i think she does have a point there yingers

hmm.... will try for the 29th but not sure how dh will feel about coming along and i don't think i could do so if he didn't.

Pam70 · 05/10/2005 10:10

We'll have to see if the DHs have something in common if they're to come along.

Does anyone else's DH like football? That's always a conversation starter for men!

blossom2 · 05/10/2005 12:08

my Dh supports Derby, also a cricket, SAS, Wilbur Smith, Chris Ryan & Andy McNab fan ...

OP posts:
csa · 05/10/2005 13:05

dh is a BIG liverpool fan, loves golf and cricket too.

Pam70 · 05/10/2005 13:19

ok csa - your DH and mine will have something in common - LIVERPOOL!!!!

DH likes listening to 5Live and will pretty much watch any sort of sport, he also likes his music and festivals eg. Glastonbury & The Big Chill

yingers74 · 05/10/2005 13:51

hello all,

I don't think of you ladies as strangers, anyway plan to hire a hall so if things went wrong we could all hide in the crowd or the bouncy castle!!!!

My dh is an arsenal fan!!!!! And i support spurs!

blossom2 · 05/10/2005 14:06

are there any men that are not football supports?!?!

Dh has really missed his sport whilst being here in paris. I'm thinking of letting him take DD1 to a football match next year - have any of you ladies done the same yet??

OP posts:
Pam70 · 05/10/2005 16:37

DH is taking DS (4) to a Liverpool match in about 2 weeks' time. It's an overnight trip and they've apparently got tickets in the family area.

It's the first time DH and DS will have been away on their own.

DS is really looking forward to the trip because he has been promised a Star Wars toy, personally I think he'll be bored during the match.

DS will also be going in his Liverpool kit (purchased for him by his godfather), which has been sitting in the back of the cupboard since he got it because he refused to wear it.

yingers74 · 06/10/2005 09:35

i have been to a match but not yet dd, not sure I would let her go, but more because of the huge crowds at the beginning and end of the match. DD does not like to have her hand held too much!

csa · 06/10/2005 13:13

LOL pam. yup, dh has 5live permanently on too

and i bet dh is counting the days before he can take ds1 to his first football match. i have to admit that when we first started going out, i was more enthusiastic about football but now it is quite difficult to find the time to do so iykwim.

Pam70 · 06/10/2005 13:28

I gave up the pretense of football interest after I got the man!! But don't tell him that - he thinks I've just lost interest because the kids came along etc etc (Is this grounds for divorce a la Renee Zellweger? She cited fraud)

I like 5Live for news but just having it on continuously in the background irritates me. DH will watch a match on TV in one room but have the commentary running on 5Live in the kitchen - apparently so he doesn't miss anything if he walks into the kitchen to get a drink or snack.

Blossom - I haven't yet met the man not interested in football.

yingers74 · 06/10/2005 16:00

oh dear! We have 5live on permanently on our kitchen radio, but that is because of me!!!!! I used to listen to the ashes series and US open on it, and the news is quite good in the morning! But I wouldn't say I was into sports!!!!

blossom2 · 10/10/2005 21:58

oh the joys of 5live in the bedroom at the weekend!!

only 2 weeks to go until i'm back in the UK. resigned myself now but will no doubt get really tearful on Eurostar homeward bound. Would not be good since i'll have dd1 & dd2 in first class...
Started our goodbye lunches/drinks/dinners with friends now ... its all really strange ...

on the plus side, dd2 has started sleeping from 8pm to 6.00am with 11pm feed! big all round....
