DD has been to Disneyland Paris as day trips (takes abotu 45 minutes from Paris) and she has LOVED it. DH also found it fun and it was lovely to see DD's face light up when she saw the sleeping beauty castle!!. The popular rides do have a long waiting time (2 hrs in december) but there is always less popular rides, mazes, characters to keep DD happy. The parade is also very good and its worth staying late to see the lights and the night parade.
The food was terrible though, but then it is an amusement park!! It was nice but only to be done on special occassions.

may give disneyland a miss, did not realise it would cost so much, for a two night stay, it came to 400 a person, may as well take her abroad for a week for that! need to rethink, any ideas?

DimSum · 14/06/2005 13:10

Hope everyone had a good weekend.Didnt have to do any cooking as it was DH's 30th birthday and so spent Saturday and Sunday eating out with friends and family.
My first baby is due 29 June so not long left. Have ordered the TENS machine ready.

yingers74 · 14/06/2005 13:14

very excited for you Dimsum, I never got round to being organised enough to get hold of a tens machine but apparently they are really good and make a huge difference.

soyabean · 14/06/2005 14:54

Dimsum Make sure you put the TEns machine on really early on as apparently the effect is cumulative. I put mine on too late, wanted a bath etc (maybe they are waterproof now, this was 13 years ago?) and didnt get any benefit from it. Good luck!

blossom2 · 14/06/2005 18:22

Very soon noew Dimsum. How exciting!!!

If i don't get to post later, i hope everything goes well for the labour. will be thnking of you!

csa · 16/06/2005 16:37

nope. tens machine still not water proof. not actually sure if was useful for me but kept me occupied anyway twiddling with the buttons!

yingers, how old is dd?

DimSum · 17/06/2005 15:40

So much for ordering the TENS machine ready. Had false contractions for three hours early on Thursday morning when I could have used the machine but its not arrived yet.Thought that this was it and frantically ran around packing the hospital bag and writing the birth plan. Then at 5.30am they stopped. The midwife says that this is perfectly normal.
However we have taken this as a sign that baby is imminent and hastily gone shopping for baby things and food. DH has stocked up on rice and noodles as he thinks that these are "essentials".
Was interesting to see how DH reacted to the whole thing. Like a rehearsal. Funny when he tried to breathe with me but not so funny when he started snoring between contractions.
Anyway, have a nice weekend everyone. Weather here in London is hot.

yingers74 · 17/06/2005 16:15

DD is 2 and 4 months.

Birth plan - this was another thing I failed to do!!!

Dim sum - which hospital are you going to?

TENS - where did you rent yours from? Am trying to be organised and do some early research!

Hope you all enjoy the great weather.

csa · 17/06/2005 16:23

yingers, got mine from babycare

yingers74 · 17/06/2005 21:14

tah for that, still got ages to go but am determined to be more prepared esp as ignorance is bliss no longer applies!

hope you all have a good weekend, it is suppose to be a warm one - hurray!

Rai · 17/06/2005 23:23

Hi

Yingers you can borrow my TENS machine, if you want its a Boots one email rai.chiu at ya hoo dot co dot uk

I found it really useful, and with gas and air the second time round thats all the pain control I needed. ( the first time totally different experience had epidural and ds birth was induced, had had a curry at a friends house, went into labour 2 hours later couldn't use gas air cos felt nauseous due to full stomach so I blame my friend's good cooking)

thinking of you dimsum.

dh wants hand dd back to me, he's complaining his arms are falling off!!!

good night

yingers74 · 18/06/2005 23:01

Rai,

Tah for the offer, may take you up on it closer to the time. Still have 20 weeks to go!

Hope all of you are enjoying the weather! I have to say that I am more of a winter person so this hot weather is making me a bit grumpy!

csa · 20/06/2005 09:14

i hate the heat! i know i had spent more than half of my life growing up in the tropics but imo britain's just not equipped for dealing with heat. give me my air conditioners or failing that, some ceiling fans please!!!! bring back the snow NOW! thank goodness it has cooled down today.

ok, rant over
how's everyone doing?

soyabean · 20/06/2005 12:38

Dimsum hope it cools down a bit for you or at least that the hospital has air conditioning/fans? Two of mine were born in HOT weather and one in snow. (well not actually in snow...)
It sure was hot this weekend. I had to spend yesterday being bossy , trying to get ds1 to do some work for his exams this week. Only year 8 but his attitude is so ver relaxed that I feel I have to make up for it a bit, even thogh I dont think they are that big a deal. We did all get out to the park on bikes for a bit of a break though.
Still no news on my MIL and SIL's visas but I have an exciting plan to visit Shanghai for aweek in Sept with my Mum, who coincidentally was born in China but has never been back. Cant go till mil and sil have been though, so need to be sure of their dates before we can book ours.

csa · 20/06/2005 14:09

how long do you have to wait soyabean?

soyabean · 21/06/2005 15:09

Ah now if we knew the answer to that questionw we wouldnt be so frustrated. The consulate says they usually make a decision within 2 to 3 days but they put in their applications 2 months ago and have been asked for three separate lots of further documentation since then...So still waiting.
How is your little one CSA?

Pam70 · 22/06/2005 23:18

Hi everyone

I haven't been on the site for a while but logged on tonight to do some research for holiday.

How's everyone?

csa - how's the baby? Have your parents been over yet? My mum was over for a month in May (a month is good, not too long!!!)

rai - how's your baby and son? Are you back at work yet?

speak soon

cheers

csa · 23/06/2005 09:35

hi all. little one is fine although been having fun trying to keep him cool in this heat

sis, bil, nephew and mum coming next week. we are then going to cornwall for 2 weeks - thought a holiday cottage will be more pleasant than having all of them squeezed into our tiny house for that period of time can't wait cos it's been nearly a year since i last saw them.

yingers74 · 23/06/2005 15:15

csa - that will be lovely for you. have a great time.

DimSum · 30/06/2005 15:06

Hello Everyone,

After a week of false contractions and a long 24 hour labour I finally gave birth to a baby girl last Thursday : Baby Olivia. She looks just like her daddy and also has his appetite. My nipples feel like they are about to fall off and trying to catch up on sleep whenever I can but otherwise very happy .

suzywong · 30/06/2005 15:09

CONGRATULATIONS! Welcome to the world little Olivia

yingers74 · 01/07/2005 18:00

Dimsum - congrats on the birth of Olivia and Hello Olivia, welcome! Hugs all round!

colette · 01/07/2005 19:34

Please can I hijack the thread to ask a question because I think I may be speaking to the experts. I have started having acupuncture for insomnia and the acupuncturist is chinese and only been in Britain a few years. I explained that part of the reason I hadn't been sleeping very well was because my husband's business is collapsing. He looked really puzzled and was suprised that I was worried about the family finance. That was when I realised there was obviously a bit of male dominance going on
I am really intrigued as to how a husband could hide this, is he expected to keep all his worries to himself ? Also how do wives know how much to spend? I realise this may not happen in 2nd generation chinese- my brother went out with a chinese girl for about 5 years and I did not pick up on any of this. I find it really interesting and wondered if this is really common in the chinese community? Sorry for butting on the thread and congratulations Dimsum on the birth of Olivia .

suzywong · 01/07/2005 23:41

even with Westernised Chinese men, they do keep all that kind of thing to themselves unitl the pressure mounts up you know, it's to do with not losing face. Is that waht you mean?

Dimsum, have you started a separate 'Ilve just had a lovely new baby thread yet?
