Mixed race baby

I’m getting really fed up of comments about how light my baby is. I’m white and very pale with fair hair and blue eyes. Partner is Jamaican with dark skin and dark eyes. My baby is pale with dark blue/grey eyes and straight brown hair. Anybody else have a baby this light? I’m interested to know whether he will get darker. I love him so much and don’t care what people think but I’m just fed up of ohhh he’s light

I'm sorry I don't know too much, although I believe that skin tone can change a fair bit. I just wanted to say how beautiful he is, and I'm not surprised you are cross about the comments.

Look at the skin colour around his nails. That will give you an idea of the colour he will end up being. He is light that’s one of the things about mixed raced people they come in all shades and people are always keen to see how dark or fair they will be. It’s interesting just like hair or eye colour which parent will they look most like.
Don’t be sensitive about it, just enjoy showing off your baby

I think that mixed race children tend to get darker with age- I’ve got a few friends who’s mixed race children were definitely as pale as that when they were born and are now 3/4/5yr olds who are very clearly mixed heritage.

Oh and tell anyone who says this to you in future to bigger off.

And he is gorgeous by the way, congratulations.

Aww your baby is gorgeous & yes I think his skin will darken ( in my experience it did)

He may well get darker as he gets older and hair/eyes often change colour (hair texture may change too!).

People do often seem to have a keen interest in mixed race children's hair/skin colour/features although I'm not really sure why!

I've been told you can tell how dark a newborn's skin will become by looking at the colour of the top of their ears?! Can't remember what colour the tops of my kids ears were as newborns though! Grin

Thanks for all your replies. Maybe I’m overreacting as I’m very hormonal lol. I just think it is very rude to comment on someone’s colour or your expectations of their colour. Thanks all 😄

He is gorgeous! I'm half English half African. I was very light at birth you wouldn't have know my dad was so dark.

Now I'm adult you can tell I'm not 100% English but nobody can usually tell where my father is from. I usually get Italy or Spain. Genetics are a funny thing! Congratulation on your son Smile

DH and I are Asian. I'm a lighter coloured Asian and he's more on the brown side of the Asian colour scale. My children were same colour as me if not lighter, on birth untill about 3 years old. Now they are not as dark but close enough to his skin colour.

I remember I was very pale up untill I joined school, then I went a few shades darker.

My friend’s daughter is half white British and half Nigerian. She looks completely white - straight, light brown hair, green eyes, pale skin, although she does tan well. Her cousin, who is half Swiss and half Nigerian is very dark skinned with black, afro hair.

Jamaica's National Motto is "out of many, one people" to reflect their diverse multicultural heritage.

DH is Jamaican descent and dark skinned, but mixed race due to his heritage.

Our 3 children are all different shades with different hair textures. They have all became darker as they have got older.

Ignore their insensitive comments.

He is beautiful, congratulations x

He is beautiful!! Honestly, I think people like to comment on things like skin colour especially when it doesn't meet their expectations.

My DH is white British and I'm African. DD1 has fair skin but dark hair and eyes, DD2 has a slight tan and dark hair and eyes and DS1 is darker with dark hair and eyes. DD1 has always been fair and I've been mistaken for her nanny. DD2 got darker but DS has always been dark. Also DD1 had blueish/gray eyes until she was about 1. So I think it is impossible to predict.

Ah he’s gorgeous Smile

I’m mixed race (Eurasian) and DH is Caucasian specifically Celtic heritage two of our dc are brunette, slightly olive complexion and brown eyes our other two dc have very pale complexion, hazel eyes and mouses/ginger hair. Yeah there’s been a few times where I suspect people think I’m the nanny an not their biological parent but I couldn’t give a stuff- none of their business.

My DS looked like yours when he was born. He's clearly mixed race now he's 7. My other DS was a bit darker and is still a bit darker. In the winter, my DS1 looks almost white too.

Beautiful baby boy !
Me and DP are both white but DS was born really dark with a Mongolian blue spot birth Mark - which is more common in mixed race babies, this led to some stupid comments .
As someone else said, genetics are a funny thing !
Your baby is so gorgeous I'm broody now
