Mixed race baby

I’m getting really fed up of comments about how light my baby is. I’m white and very pale with fair hair and blue eyes. Partner is Jamaican with dark skin and dark eyes. My baby is pale with dark blue/grey eyes and straight brown hair. Anybody else have a baby this light? I’m interested to know whether he will get darker. I love him so much and don’t care what people think but I’m just fed up of ohhh he’s light

I think he will have tan skin, blue eyes and blonde curls, absolutely beautiful x

peacheachpearplum · 01/04/2018 18:05

My kids are mixed race and their hair was dead straight until they hit puberty, it changed almost overnight. They found it really hard to deal with as they were used to straight hair and sons is very curly and daughter's is (in her words) pure frizz. My husband and I both have straight hair.

LyannaStarktheWolfMaid · 01/04/2018 18:07

He’s lovely. Congratulations 😊

n0ne · 01/04/2018 18:09

All the mixed babies I know (myself included!) were born very light and then got darker to a greater or lesser degree. I thought that was actually the norm. Ignore the comments, people are ignorant.

amievenawake · 01/04/2018 18:13

I'm half english half jamaican, as are my two brothers, my middle brother is the darkest with really tight afro hair i'm a bit lighter with less afro hair - more fuzzy. And my littlest brother is the lightest of us with just curly hair. All the same dad, and my daughter is only a quarter jamaican but just looks like she's got a good tan! Not sure on the hair front yet as she's only 7 months old and quite bald!Grin

Thank you all for your lovely comments. I think it’s really insensitive to comment on skin colour. He has my partners nose, lips and eye shape but so far has my colouring. My husband is mixed although he does not look it. His great grandma was white Irish with blue eyes and blonde hair so I suppose that could also make an appearance from his side

He's gorgeous. DH is mixed race and I am white and two of our children look completely white, the spitting image of me whereas the other two are darker, one darker than DH! Genetics are funny and I can't really get my head around them in depth.

Barbadosgirl · 01/04/2018 19:01

He is lovely. My eldest dual heritage son was v fair at birth. At 4 his skin is quite fair but you can tell he is mixed. Look at the skin round his nails/behind his ears for a clue re how dark he might get.

PeonyTruffle · 01/04/2018 19:07

Oh goodness, OP he’s so gorgeous 😍

Lealea248 · 01/04/2018 19:20

Here he is again. He has the exact same nose and features as his daddy, just really pale with blue eyes like me.

Another unhelpful post from me but he is truly lovely! Also my ds has that John Lewis sleepsuit.

It's so hard to tell if skin tone or anything will change isn't it? My 5 month old has fair hair and blue eyes but my dh and I have very dark hair and other eye colours. We're not dual heritage but it is always fascinating to see how babies change and develop.

As other posters have said , don't let those silly comments get to you and please keep the cute pictures comingSmile

Petalflowers · 01/04/2018 20:46

Can we asked what your bundle of cuteness is called?

chickywoo · 01/04/2018 20:56

He is so gorgeous! My dc are mixed race dc1 is the darkest looks most like dh, with dark straight hair, Dc2 is lighter skinned with lighter coloured curly hair dc3 is almost blonde but looks double of dc1 and dc4 is the double of dc2 but with straight hair all have brown eyes.

Jon66 · 01/04/2018 20:59

My son, now nearly 30 had blonde hair, father black African, me white. He is now dark and handsome!

Liara · 01/04/2018 21:00

I give you my favourite quote from my nephew, explaining to his brother:

'The difference between literal and figurative is like...I'm literally black and you're figuratively black.'

Allthebestnamesareused · 01/04/2018 21:06

My female friend (black) and her husband white have to all.intents and purposes what everyone would assume to be a white child. Very straight long blonde hair, fair skin and big blue eyes.

Another white female friend has 2 blonde kids, pale skinned kids with her Pakistani husband. The doctor's surgery always look amazed when they call their Asian surname and blondes go up!

BigPinkBall · 01/04/2018 21:09

I have a friend who is from the Caribbean and her husband is white British and her baby is very white, lighter than me, with bluer eyes, and I’m a ginge! BUT I’ve never once commented on it because really what purpose would that serve? and I can imagine it would be something she’d be sick of hearing, like when people over six foot get sick of people commenting on how tall they are!

Liara · 01/04/2018 21:10

national geographic article

SolWave · 01/04/2018 21:14

I’m white; dh mixes European/Caribbean with green eyes. We have three varying degrees of darkness. The third has surprised us with curly almost ginger hair (no ginger in either family) and blue eyes. He will get darker particularly during summer months.

littlegecko · 01/04/2018 21:15

I have a friend who is white with brown hair and light eyes who is married to a Jamaican guy with dark hair and dark eyes. They have three children - two are dark like their dad and the other is fair like their Mum. I think people assumed she would get darker as she got older but she is now a teenager and stayed light, with very straight hair.

Genetics are fascinating !

Your baby is beautiful btw.

Funclesmuck · 01/04/2018 21:15

OP, I think we have a real problem here, and the only way we can fix it is to have more pics of the little love. (Seriously does anyone remember what this thread was about, this baby is sqweee)

BillyAndTheSillies · 01/04/2018 21:17

My brother and I are both mixed race (dad is Jamaican). My brother has Afro hair, very dark skin and green eyes. I have blonde hair, brown eyes and fairly olive skin but you'd never guess I was mixed race. Facially, we both look very much like our dad.
My DS has tight curly blonde hair, very dark skin and blue eyes. Genetics are amazing. My husband has had comments like "he's so dark, are you sure he's yours?" (Husband is half Greek half Irish, but very much favours the Irish side. Pale, red hair etc).
Your baby is beautiful and his colouring will change over time. But being mixed race definitely doesn't mean he will be dark skinned.

espoleta · 01/04/2018 21:57

He's a beauty!

My friends who are mixed raced have babies (who are cousins) and their colour are completely different and opposite to what anyone would expect.

They are wonderful and gorgeous and we all adore them.

People are rude and arseholes.

Enjoy your baby
Xxx

stressedoutfred · 01/04/2018 22:08

Naaaww he's a cutie!! 💙

My eldest is mixed British / African, he was fairer as a baby than he is now at 14. His siblings on his Dads side ( different mum) are fairer than him, but not much.

Enjoy him, they grow up so quickly!

91bees · 01/04/2018 22:15

Your baby is beautiful! Congratulations OP Thanks

Genetics are a funny thing! Seeing as your partner is mixed too, there are a lot of different genes at play, so you may not know his true skin/eye/hair colour until your DS is a few years old!

My DP is mixed race, 1/2 Mexican. I'm white. Though we both have dark hair and dark eyes, DC1 is blonde with blue eyes, after DM and MIL.
