Mnr4xmas, happy to go for buggy stroll in Richmond Park or even along the river. Not bothered where we go for dim sum. Ping Pong looks good, not eaten there before. DH and I tend to go (boringly) to Golden Dragon in Chinatown. Actually I think there is going to be a new food court in Chinatown quite soon, it'll be in the fire station building. Might be worth checking out when it does open. Thanks for the West London thread link, will check it out when have more time.

T2bg, who's got perfect in-laws? I'd like to meet and adopt them!

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 20/11/2006 14:15

Snowmum,

I'll CAT you to arrange to meet up for stroll and maybe coffee?

trying2bgood · 20/11/2006 14:32

Hello,

www.ecms.org.uk/classes.htm

This is the website for ealing chinese school, I spent ages looking for it because I thought it would be called acton chinese school considering where it is! LOL. Hope it proves useful.

Snow - my mum thinks that she is a perfect in-law!!! I could not possible comment!

Have probably asked but where are you all based again. I am in acton, west london.

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 20/11/2006 14:45

Thanks, t2bg! My mum thinks she's a good mil too. She says she says she's very modern in her thinking and doesn't require my sil to observe traditional ways.

Are we allowed to rant about our mil? My mil annoys me because she fusses too much. To begin with, it was because I wasn't English. I don't know what it is these day. Probably because I'm unlike anyone she's ever known.

She used to make a roast for the family and then announce that she could cook something different for me because she knows I don't like roasts. I really didn't enjoy being singled out like that for attention. I do think part of it has got to do with the fact that she's on drugs for depression some times.

I feel v. guilty for complaining about her to my dh so I'm complaining about her on MN.

Complaining about your mil must have been a punishable offence in the old days in China.

trying2bgood · 20/11/2006 14:51

We all have our complaints when it comes to the in-laws so don't worry about it. I have already spent sat moaning about it so am going to avoid the subject right now, not worth wasting too much eneryg, you can't change them! Just have to smile and bite your tongue - ouch!

champagne18 · 21/11/2006 15:17

Hi everyone, i'm new to this forum. I am so glad to have found this thread. it's just so nice to hear from other chinese mums.I just had a ds. He is 13 weeks old.

I've recently moved to rayelgh Essex 11 months ago. dh is from essex.

I'm just wondering if anybody knows of any parents and toddler groups in the area?

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 21/11/2006 15:30

Welcome champers,

I live in west london so I'm not much help with baby groups in Essex. We're planning a weekday dim sum in central London. Would you like to join us?

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 21/11/2006 21:14

Autumnlover,

Would you like to check out www.pingpongdimsum.com? Do you have another dim sum place you fancy going to?

trying2bgood · 21/11/2006 21:59

welcome champers - I too live in west london so am no help. Have a look at meet ups section and look for essex thread, alternatively there is another website netmums which is good for group listings! Good luck!

I could not bring up that website, mellow. Where is the place?

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 21/11/2006 22:05

Hi t2bg,

The restaurant is on Great Marlborough St, near Liberty. Here's the site again.

champagne18 · 22/11/2006 14:51

hi t2bg, thanks for the weblink. This is very useful.

Hi mellow, I would love to meet up as i haven't had dim sum for a while. but at the moment i found getting into London a bit of a mission. Tube systems aren't all that pushchair friendly.

But if any of you mums are up in essex . I 'll be happy to meet up in lakeside for a spot of retail therapy,

Also, i'm just wondering if any of your ds/dd was born with a mongolian blue spot?

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 22/11/2006 16:10

I totally understand, champers. I carry dd in a sling when I brave the tube. [earth mother emoticon]

trying2bgood · 22/11/2006 16:35

Mongolian blue spots - heard about them but neither of my two had them. Will take a look at the site asap.

I too find the tube system a little unfriendly, but as I have not got round to passing my driving test, have no choice but to brave it! And once you start it is not that bad, it is more the fear of doing it and of course other passengers tutting when your buggy takes up space that they could be using!

snowmum · 22/11/2006 19:04

Welcome Champers. I remember taking DD out and about in a sling when she was little. She's now 17 months and way too heavy! I found this map from TFL which shows which stations are wheelchair/buggy friendly here . I don't brave the tube that often but when I do I find most people are quite helpful and will assist you with buggy going up/down stairs.

autumnlover · 22/11/2006 21:51

hi everyone .... sorry havent been around. restuarant near liberty sounds good as i can walk from Charing Cross. what day is good for everyone?? the first week in december is good for me and monday, tuesday or wednesday is good for me. sorry.

on a more scary note, i think i saw a mouse or rat running across my dinning room this evening. i was just turning into the room and saw something dashing across the room. Its freaking me out really. dh putting rat/mouse poison in the room behind the shelf (where i saw it run to). aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

autumnlover · 22/11/2006 21:54

oh regarding blue spots, both my girls have them. DD1's one has finally faded now whilst DD2's is still quite visible (16mths). it basically looks like a bruise and is blue!!!

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 22/11/2006 21:57

Hi autumnlover,
Glad you can make it.

I can do mon, tue or wed 1st week of dec too. That would be 4th, 5th or 6th Dec.

snowmum · 23/11/2006 10:14

Those dates are fine for me too.

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 23/11/2006 10:18

Great! Let's pick a date once we hear from t2bg .

snowmum · 23/11/2006 11:57

Err... sorry to be a pain but I can't make the Monday (4th) now. If its the most convenient date for everyone then don't worry about me.

Mellow, I've just sent you an email.

wyls · 23/11/2006 15:30

Hi Girls, it's nice to see that thread has been quite busy and BIG hello to the Champers and Mnr4xmas.

Champers, I am also from Rayleigh, what a small world. Where abouts are you in Rayleigh? I only know a couple of toddler group, there is one at St Michael's church on Thurs and it's for 1st time mums. There is also another one at the Grange near Lady Of Ransom school. But I am not sure what day that is on.

My son is 18month old now and I am working full time from home. He goes to nursery 3 days a week.

Where were you living before Rayleigh? Are you chinese?

BTW, have you all heard about Oriental City being redeveloped? I am going to miss the food hall a lot!!!

Ok got to go and pick my son up so speak to you all later

champagne18 · 23/11/2006 16:36

Hi wlys,
thank you for the toddler info.

what a small world! Yes, i am chinese. We currently live down in the Little wheatley estate. I've hardly seen any chinese people in this area. Where abouts do you live in Rayleigh?

I used to live in sutton Surrey (zone 5). The commute into work and the cost of a monthly travelcard has been a real shock for me.

You are so lucky to be able to work full time from home. I am dreading returning back to work in May. My ds is 3months old.

i am so pleased to hear that the mongolian blue spot does fade. We were told by the health visiter that it might be a permanent birth mark!

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 23/11/2006 17:12

Hi wyls,

We're organising a weekday dimsum in Ping Pong located on Great Marlborough St, near Liberty, on 5th or 6th Dec. Would you be interested to join us?

autumnlover · 23/11/2006 19:36

evening everyone, just found that i cant make monday the 4th either - DD1's nursery has requested a meeting with us as she is going to 'big' school in january!!

It still surprises me how little people know about the blue spots. when we were in A&E because DD2 for croup, one nurse asked me what the spots were and then got a consultant to confirm. at the time i didn't see anything in it, because they do look like bruises but did feel angry about it a couple of days after. now i just make a point of telling people when they see DD2 naked.

wyls · 23/11/2006 20:04

I might be able to do the 5th Dec which is a tues cos i usually spend tues in the office in London and Gt Marlborough Street is very close to my work. Let me know when it is definite and I will see if I can pop over to meet everyone.

Champers, you are down the road from me, are u at langham drive or on Little Wheatley Road. I am at the birds estate near the train station. I have a few friends down your way. You are right about Rayleigh, there arent many chinese people in this town at all. It's getting better. I know another lady through the baby group and she's korean and her husband is chinese. Southend has a bigger chinese community, there is a chinese school, a good resturant for dim sum, a chinese cafe and there is also a good chinese shop.

Btw, the blue spot will go, the korean lady's son has similar blue mark and it covered most of his body but he's one now and the mark has almost faded away.

Anyway, if you fancy it we should arrange to meet up. Do you have msn, skype or yahoo messenger?
