Sky bill £114!!!

Bellyblueboy · Yesterday 15:33

I am reviewing my monthly outgoing and my sky bill is out of control!

£114 per month for broadband and a TV entertainment package.

i rang to see if they can reduce it - the best offer they could give me is £101 including a glass TV. I said I don’t want a glass TV and I got an incoherent answer about the TV making it cheaper!

I am considering switching to Virgin - but I think there must be something I am missing - the equivalent bundle seems to be £52 (albeit with a few less TV channels).

anyone made the switch? I can’t believe I pay so much to Sky plus apple tv and Netflix ontop😩

Do you actually need Sky? We swapped to smart TVs and just pay for the apps we use

Overthebow · Yesterday 15:38

If you have Apple TV and Netflix do you need Sky? That’s a huge amount of money each month on tv.

Anywherebuthere · Yesterday 15:39

Sky are so out of touch with the prices, I'm surprised people still pay for it.

Do you use the TV much? Netflix, Disney or amazon prime etc are cheaper and worth considering (depending on what you watch on tv).

Indaloo · Yesterday 15:40

You leave and then they offer a lower price. Don’t know why these stupid companies cannot just offer you the price in the first place.

ThirdStorm · Yesterday 15:42

Oh wow! I pay £23 for fibre, £5.99 to Netflix and equivalent £7.91 to Amazon for prime but get the TV stuff. £37 feels expensive to me!

Cockerpoomom · Yesterday 15:42

Do you have Facebook? Check local groups because ours everyone is constantly complaining about their virgin being down..
My parents moved from Sky to BRSK and they were brilliant til they were taken over and now although the internet is fine the TV is always a bit hit and miss however it's better than paying that for sky, they had a similar bill and coz they had never rang up to moan, they still had the old skool equipment and paying through the nose.
Sky is a rip off now!!!

notatinydancer · Yesterday 15:45

We’ve just cancelled at £73 ! Smart TV and Firestick now.

ChateauProvence · Yesterday 15:47

I have just reduced my package to sky tv (removed movies and sports) and added broadband for £68 a month

ThisOldThang · Yesterday 15:48

Take a look at nowtv. It's the sky equivalent of Netflix. We've got the entertainment, cinema and HBO Max packages with 'boost' for no adverts and it costs £10.99 for the first six months with no contract. I'll go through the cancellation process in September and they're bound to offer another cheap deal.

You'll obviously need to pay for broadband as well.

Also, don't get Virgin. I had to go to arbitration to get out of a broadband deal. They've just been fined for making it impossible to leave/cancel.

roseymoira · Yesterday 15:51

Now TV includes everything on Sky Tv for less than 10 pound a month. Get a separate broadband.

I can’t believe anybody pays for sky anymore

ThisOldThang · Yesterday 15:55

We got this package and then added HBO Max. I think there's a quirk to the ordering system that means you keep the six months of free boost that isn't available if you take out HBO Max as a package. They'll make you a discounted offer for HBO once you've taken out the first package.

I don’t have Sky, I just pay for Amazon, Netflix and Disney which is less than £20 (with ads). I don’t watch live TV so no TV license.

Bellyblueboy · Yesterday 15:58

It’s really the broadband I need - o work from home one day a week and have teams meetings.

I agree it’s a extortionate amount of money to pay for tv and broadband. I need to address it - and can’t believe they tried to plug a bloody glass tv! I don’t need a new TV!!

I have had sky all my adult life so need to understand how other services work. I like to watch local news etc - if I cancel sky I need to understand how to get them on my smart tv. That sounds really stupid!!

I might keep their broadband (they offered to reduce the cost of superfast to £39) and cancel the entertainment. I I’ll they come and take away the satellite dish (it doesn’t work anyway)

I wfh every day and pay £35 for ultra + with UW, never had any issues.

Ginmonkeyagain · Yesterday 16:01

Oh mate - I pay £21 a month for 150 mbit/s broadband and access to all the freeview apps on my smart TV. I pay an additional £9.99 a month for Netflix.

That is more than enough.

Was that just for tv or did it conclude broadband?

The inlaws pay a slightly higher amount. They can barely turn the sky on these days and use the internet about twice a month.
My BIL signed them up for it. He should have known better.

TheChaffinch · Yesterday 16:05

We've had sky since the beginning. Currently got sky q, 3 mini boxes and broadband. No movies or sports as I'm not interested. It's around £65 a month.

I really hate the rigmarole of having to barter every year or so. It's the same with insurance.
I like the planner but I've recently been looking at alternatives.
My viewing is mainly news and drama.
I guess we could change over to streaming everything. It's the total convenience of sky that I like and we can afford it.
Everything I've read about virgin suggests that it's unreasonable and they will bump up the price after the initial contract.

Edited to add we don't have an ariel and I have found cheaper broadband.

Bromptotoo · Yesterday 16:08

You need to work out what you (a) need and (b) want in terms of subscription services like sport and films.

Plain vanilla highspeed broadband, fibre to the premises, at 900mbs can be had for less than £30. No landline in that though.

If all you do workwise is use web based tools, occasional Zoom type conferencing and perhaps support for call handling if you take customer calls you don't need anything like 900mbps.

Sparrowsandbudgies · Yesterday 16:11

You don’t need to spend that 😳😳

We have Plusnet for broadband - dh working from home, teenage Ds gaming non stop, dd aged 23 and I streaming non stop. £26 a month.

Then we have Netflix, Disney plus and Amazon Prime separately. Still less than half of what you’re paying. Sometimes we switch to another streaming option if there’s something we particularly want to watch and just pause the subscription when we’ve finished it (looking at you NowTV).

Ilikewinter · Yesterday 16:18

I hear you OP! We've had sky for donkeys years. Whilst I get having Nextflix, prime and Disney, what do you do if you want to watch live TV, flicking between the news and say, ITV, BBC for example. Do you need to open apps for BBC, ITV etc app aswell?

OtherS · Yesterday 16:21

The broadband's good, but the prices have rocketed in the past couple of years. Now Virgin, which is fine, and about £15 less a month. I did used to have the TV box, but couldn't get Q where I was and they put me on the streaming service, which was absolutely terrible. And exactly the same as you'd get from Now TV, which costs less. I can't understand why anyone would have that. So cancelled, and now just have one subscription at a time, and work my way through everything I want to see, then on to the next.

I would go back to Sky if they offered a proper box with planner etc, and it was a reasonable price. I could now have Q, but the prices are absurd, and I'm happy enough without. I find all streaming services crap though; I just want a planner, with all my programmes, where I can press one button and resume wherever I left off. I hate how complicated it is just to find my programmes, and how many ads and 'recommendations' I need to scroll through to get there. It has definitely helped me cut my TV watching though, which is no bad thing.

Lumpycat · Yesterday 16:24

NEVER EVER SIGN UP FOR VIRGIN MEDIA.
Worst company I’ve ever had to deal with. Appalling. They probably made more money from making it impossible to leave and overcharging people than the £28 million fine.
DO NOT DO IT.

heidi696 · Yesterday 16:28

What do you do if you want sky sports tho. I got sky down to about 50 but it’s crept back up to 95 and it’s killing me. Son wants sky sports for football matches

Sophiecunninghamsfinger · Yesterday 16:40

Unless you say what you have it's impossible to comment eg I have a Sky package coming to an end - and it's going up by 5 pounds to 51 . I'm not paying this. I'm going to take one of the new packages - ultimate tv for 24 .

Netflix included in this price. Do your research .
