How much is your mortgage?

How much is your total amount owed and what are your monthly payments?

I know the answers will vary hugely but I’m curious as to what other people pay.

Our outstanding amount is £275k and we pay around £1600 per month.

Yes! Investments outstrip mortgage rates and while that the case we won’t overpay on our mortgage. I totally get the desire to be mortgage free but I’m really surprised by how many people are overpaying!

Agreed but not surprised by how many people don’t make the same decision.

About £50k, paying £1400/month as we are overpaying to get it cleared ASAP.

Zero!

This thread prompted me to find a way to clear the balance in February. 😁

We pay £1,600 a month. No idea how much is left, I choose ignorance as it's too depressing. Don't overpay, would rather have fun now!

ilovemybluesharpie · 05/06/2026 14:38

£28.5K left, mortgage is £450pm, ended up paying more for less as it was up for renewal around the time of Liz Truss and rates went through the roof.

I overpay by £200 a month. The mortgage rate is higher than the savings interest rate, although I do save as much as possible as well, in order to reduce it hopefully next time it is up for renewal

We paid ours off a few of years ago, dp is self employed and it’s a weight off our mind. Before that we were paying £450 a month.

CarryOnRewardless · 06/06/2026 19:37

£458,000 and we pay £2,000 a month

Angelselevenx · 06/06/2026 19:49

£323,000 and £1131pm, due to remortgage in August though so likely to go up about £500pm!

Statsquestion1 · 07/06/2026 22:06

We pay 1900 per month which is 400 overpayment. We have 334k left. 😅😅

Ofchris · 08/06/2026 17:39

£7,700
£936

StrictlyCoffee · 08/06/2026 17:41

Nothing and nothing. My husband inherited some money and paid it off last month. It was £85k

rogueone · 08/06/2026 18:17

momager22 · 08/06/2026 19:04

Helga55 · 08/06/2026 20:01

Changymcnamechange · 08/06/2026 21:51

£302k, £1450 a month that we round up to £1500 so a slight overpayment, both early 40s 😬 this is absolutley the forever home though, we had a small home before this and paid off the mortgage so have done it once. Xx

Ireolu · Yesterday 09:23

We paid ours off in March with help. We are early 40s. Gift from in laws (balance was significant). Rate increase was about to increase monthly payment by ~ £500. Now saving aggressively for other goals we have.

AlternateLook · Yesterday 11:35

We're maybe going to put an extra £10,000 into our mortgage which is at £43,000 now. I know they'll accept it, but do we have to get in touch with them to either get the monthly amount down or shorten the length of the term? I know it doesn't happen automatically. Any thoughts?

50sandFabulous · Yesterday 11:37

£236 per month
£23,000 left on it.
Rate of 1.54% ends in November, so we are clearing it then.
We are older though - 56 & 53.

rainandshine38 · Yesterday 12:06

@AlternateLookjust be wary if you are on a mortgage deal that you can usually only pay off 10% of your mortgage without incurring early repayment charges. So anything above £4300 in your case. If you are not tied into a special rate then you are probably ok.

We paid an extra £4,500 a few months ago and weren't told anything about charges, so I guess we'll be okay.
