How much is your mortgage?

Birchwoods · 27/01/2026 13:58

How much is your total amount owed and what are your monthly payments?

I know the answers will vary hugely but I’m curious as to what other people pay.

Our outstanding amount is £275k and we pay around £1600 per month.

Surely for any real comparisons it makes sense to say what the length / term of the mortgage is too? 5yrs? 35yrs? Etc

SweetBaklava · 27/01/2026 17:37

£2k pm, around £250k left, 15 yrs to go (we are early 50s… took us a long time to get on the ladder). We are likely to have inheritances before the end of the 15 yrs and will use that to clear mortgage and retire a bit sooner. We got well and truly swatted by the increase in rates at out last remortgage two years ago, we will have a better rate on our next remortgage but will probably overpay if we can.

Sorethroatpain · 27/01/2026 17:38

Just under £300K with monthly payments of £3,750 (overpaying to get rid of mortgage asap). Both mid 50's now.

In early days had mortgage of £900K and were so stretched we could not afford capital repayments, only interest. Size of mortgage has caused so much stress over the years but at last it feels more manageable. House has appreciated in value but not sure I'd make the same choice again.

CheekyPony · 27/01/2026 17:39

About £500k outstanding and payments are just over 2k a month

gianfrancogorgonzola · 27/01/2026 17:40

We have £3.5k outstanding and are repaying £900 per month. but the required is £400 so could drop back if we needed to. I could clear it today but would rather invest the extra.

I didn’t care AT ALL about our mortgage debt for the 20 years rates were at rock bottom but as soon as they started rising we threw money at it. Hate paying to service debt Although wedid all our initial borrowing figures on 5% interest and paid that on very, VERY few of the months, in the end.

Marble10 · 27/01/2026 17:43

£1100 hoping to increase it to £1300 to overpay.

Kookykoala · 27/01/2026 17:44

if we hadn’t moved x3 years ago would of been

73,000
£384
16 years left

😩😩 regret my life choices sometimes

TheElatedLion · 27/01/2026 17:48

£64k remaining.
We pay £860 but 300 of that is overpayment.

We had a 5-year fix at an excellent rate, which ends this summer, but I'm hopeful that it won't make a huge difference to the overall payment.

I'm 52 and want to be mortgage free by my 60th birthday.

Some of these amounts are terrifying but I'm very risk-averse and hate having debt of any sort, even 'good' debt like a mortgage.

Do all banks not offer free banking?

Not in rip off Ireland they don’t!

Mamabear487 · 27/01/2026 17:57

285k £1100 a month. Moving next week new mortgage is 600k £2200 a month

Isekaied · 27/01/2026 17:59

148k
Repayment £758

amoosebouche · 27/01/2026 18:02

170k, 1k pcm, 16 years left to run but want it gone by age 60 max, which is less than 16 years away... would LOVE to be investing that 1k pcm instead. Hey ho at least we own approx 70% of our home and could downsize and be mortgage free if the sh*t really hit the fan.

Odiebay · 27/01/2026 18:16

320k left 20 years left (was 25yrs). We pay £1.5k a month. Will go up next year when fix ends 😭

Puffalicious · 27/01/2026 18:20

I'm aware this will make me look a bit stupid (professional, degree educated but have ZERO clue about accounting/ economics).

51k left (house 350k)
5.5 years left
£920 a month.
I've just turned 54
Broker said 4.39% was best they could achieve when remortgaged last year

Why are my payments much higher than others who have around same amount or have quite a bit more to pay off? Is it because I've less years left? I don't really understand. I've always been a bit flummoxed by how much I pay for a low loan ratio.

Would love to overpay, but already overpaying pension & I'm part-time due to an ASN child.

Would also have paid it by now if I didn't need to buy my ex out 17 years ago.

Any light much appreciated.

RosieCottonDancing · 27/01/2026 18:23

We’re mid-30s and have just under £400k outstanding. Repayments are £2.5k a month plus overpayments.

Hoping rate will drop when we remortgage this year!

MiddleAgedDread · 27/01/2026 18:26

£34k paying £584 a month on fixed rate but over paying by about 50%. The end is in sight 🥳

TheElatedLion · 27/01/2026 18:37

@Puffalicious can you not increase your term? That would bring your monthly payments down and take the pressure off a bit. Pay it back over 10 years rather than 5.5?

Apologies if I'm missing something, but I think that's what I'd do. How long is your current 4.39% fix for?

RottenBanana · 27/01/2026 18:39

About £50k, paying £1400/month as we are overpaying to get it cleared ASAP.

Goodbanana1 · 27/01/2026 18:41

Monthly Payment-1961.

Nickisli1 · 27/01/2026 18:54

Surely this is pointless unless you ask for ages? A 60 yr old who got on the ladder 35 yrs ago will have a very different answer to a 30 yr FTB.

Feel free to add your age! It was more about monthly payments really though.

OP posts:
GRCP · 27/01/2026 19:49

Roughly £300k, £2100 pcm. We have just under 17 years left, age 42

Birchwoods · 27/01/2026 19:50

LovingLimePeer · 27/01/2026 15:00

£293
Payments: £2.87 per month.
We can't pay it off in full without early redemption charges until 2029.

Wow!!! That’s bonkers 😂
