Side hustle

Chanel05 · 09/02/2025 14:48

Hello I'm hoping to get into some kind of side hustle. I'm not looking to work for someone else or make a living out of it but just wanting to earn
a little bit of cash to put away for a rainy day.

I have two small children at home, I'm not "crafty" to make something to sell.

Matched betting? There’s a group on Facebook called outplayed.com where people are making a decent amount.

HaroldMeaker · 09/02/2025 14:53

There's someone on instagram called' fun money club' who makes an extra £££ and has all sorts of ideas to try. I keep meaning to have a go myself.

PuzzlingRecluse · 09/02/2025 14:53

Second matched betting, I’m with odds monkey & make an extra £300-400 per month pretty easily

Neesha is fab, she’s how I got into matched betting

Thedarknessssss · 09/02/2025 14:58

I’ve said that about MB only because a member of my family does it.
I can’t seem to get my head around it sadly so I do think you need to understand betting first maybe

custardpyjamas · 09/02/2025 15:00

I never understand how everyone says they make money on matched betting, surely one person wins and one loses both can't win and 'the house' has to make something.

HaroldMeaker · 09/02/2025 15:02

@PuzzlingRecluse ooh is matched betting still a thing then? I looked at it last year but everyone seemed very gloomy about it and I've felt like I missed the party Hmm

Penguinsmum · 09/02/2025 15:02

Definitely give matched Betting a try. It's very straightforward. Not gambling at all. Just follow the steps on team profit website. I've earned around £8,000 over the last few years.

PuzzlingRecluse · 09/02/2025 15:04

Definitely a thing, follow the guides you won’t lose money, outplayed & oddsmonkey both have explainers & free trials. I’ve tried both & prefer oddsmonkey. They also have a really helpful facebook group

Penguinsmum · 09/02/2025 15:05

I don't make as much as I did a few years back but it's still worth it imo

Ilovemyshed · 09/02/2025 15:05

So if MB is so simple why doesn't everyone do it? Whats the catch?

It's risk free and utilises the freebets offered out by bookmakers. I don't gamble but I had a dabble last year and easily made some money.

No catch, it’s against bookie t&c’s inevitably you lose some bookies along the way so you can’t access their offers. But it’s easy money tbh I wish I’d started sooner

Lots of people haven’t heard of it. I hadn’t until I read about it on MN about five years ago.
I started it when I retired and made £13k in 18 months until all of the bookies banned me. I told friends/family about it and none of them had heard of it and most thought it was risky.

xyzandabc · 09/02/2025 16:13

Yep, agree with matched betting. I made about £15k over 3 years but stopped when I was banned or stake restricted by too many bookies/casinos. Coincided with increasing my hours at work so was a good time to stop. I wouldn't be averse to going back to it one day.

I used odds monkey and team casino for learning what to do. Read about it, watch the how to videos, read it all again, watch the videos again. Follow the step by step instructions to sign up to your 1st offer and place the bets. Have a spreadsheet to keep track of your accounts and earnings. Never deviate from the matched betting rules, otherwise that's gambling which is a sure fire way to lose your money. But follow the instructions and it's an easy way to make a bit of tax free money on the side.

Did you pay for ofdsmonkey or use the free trial? I've tried to read about it a few times and I just don't understand it, currently on mat leave so would be a good time to have another go

I'm sure I probably started with the free trial but had it for a few years so must have started paying at some point

the only catch is that eventually all the bookies will gub you ie you won’t be able to take advantage of free bets and offers. I made about £4K with matched betting.

Summervibes24 · 09/02/2025 20:09

Following as need to try MB again - didn't do it properly last time and actually lost money 🤦‍♀️

ShanghaiDiva · 09/02/2025 20:11

I used team profit
https://www.teamprofit.com/
they had some really useful videos. I didn’t pay for a monthly subscription, just used the fee trial and then checked the offers myself.

The catch is it utilises the 'free' bets betting companies offer to reel you in, and then if you're a gambler at all you go off the rails and spend more than you earn.

I did it, with a spreadsheet and a determination to track every penny, and I made about £700 in a month. It does require a small amount of capital upfront, which most people don't want to front as understandably it feels like a scam.

Agreed. I was skeptical at the start so I gave myself a float of £100 on the understanding that I was ok with the risk of losing that amount if it turned out to be a scam. I never put a penny more of my own money in to it. Just used the profit made to keep going on the next offer, working up to bigger ones once I had enough profit to fund them.

MaMisled · 09/02/2025 20:48

I earned some extra money reselling clothes i bought from car boot sales and jumble sales, on Ebay and Vinted.

DelilahBucket · 09/02/2025 20:55

I did matched betting a few years ago. It paid for half of my house extension, so about £13,500. It was more lucrative then than now, but still, it's easy money once you understand it.
