Side hustle

Chanel05 · 09/02/2025 14:48

Hello I'm hoping to get into some kind of side hustle. I'm not looking to work for someone else or make a living out of it but just wanting to earn
a little bit of cash to put away for a rainy day.

I have two small children at home, I'm not "crafty" to make something to sell.

Matched betting is becoming less lucrative. The bookmakers can use tech etc to rapidly spot people likely to be doing it and ban them, and there are only so many free bets and offers available. It relies on you being reasonable capable at maths to track offers/bets/winnings and losses, make a mistake and you can quickly lose a lot.

Also anyone who's made thousands will have risked a chunk of their own money at the start and put in a bit of time to do a lot quickly before getting banned.

That’s not true, there is no risk with matched betting if you follow the guides odds monkey & out played both have excellent guides & explainer videos

FortheloveofCheesus · 18/07/2025 22:56

I didn't say it carries risk. I said it was becoming less lucrative due to less free bets and you get shut down/restricted/banned fast.

You also said that anyone who has made thousands has used a chunk of their own money. I've made thousands over the years with MB and think I started with 20 euro of my own cash. I just built up the pot from there. There's no risk once you follow the rules.

I am interested in matched betting

I’m interested in matched betting. How much of your own money do you have to put in? Does it pay you into your account/how do you access your winnings? I’d thought it was a scam.

DogAnxiety · 10/02/2026 23:58

Definitely not a scam but I made my money and then got gubbed (banned) pretty quickly.

You make your earnings inside your bookies’ accounts, of which you will have very many (!) and you also need to sign up to the exchanges like Smarkets to lay your bets off against each other. Definitely need help from a site like outplayed or oddsmonkey though.

You will need a small float to lay your bets off. It’s hard to explain but it is entirely risk free as long as you don’t make mistakes - I did that once, laid the wrong bet and lost £80.

PuzzlingRecluse · 11/02/2026 19:06

matched betting is totally risk free I started with £50, I’ve lost bookies along the way but I’ve made over 10k which has massively helped. I’d recommend doing a free trial with either oddsmonkey or outplayed, they have really simple explainer videos. In brief it’s making money from free bets from book makers, if you follow the guides, check them recheck you won’t lose money. My only regret is not starting earlier!
