Have done my allocations for April this morning (pay day).

I'm still struggling with the mentality. I am in so much more control that I was a year ago and my net worth is up 43%, so it is working... But I am still very impulsive, and if I want to I will spend. The difference is that I am only borrowing from myself and delaying the big purchases which I'm saving for. I'm not taking on Credit.

So I know I'm in a much better place - but seeing a category needing topping up by nearly 100% of my budget means I'm not stopping and thinking if I really should be spending.

Progress, not perfection!

I’m still YNABing. We’ve had a very heavy month in March and I’ve been Wamming all over the place. We may even need to pull a bit out of one of our sinking funds for the first time since we started YNAB last May.

Some of it is lifestyle creep and dh and I need to get a handle on that.

WorthySloth · 31/03/2025 09:07

Payday today 😊 allocated all my cash ready for bills day tomorrow 🤣🤣

I still have cash in my shopping account which is just as well as the cupboards are bare. Need to do a big shop later as I’m working Tuesday to Thursday then away Friday to Monday 😊

AddictedtoCrunchies · 01/04/2025 09:35

Still budgeting. Got paid on 25th with annual bonus so been able to fully fund all 2025 sinking pots. That feels nice. Now to start on 2026.

I don't future fund my general expenses as not enough £ to go round. But I future fund all my one offs so car insurance etc. Feels good.

WorthySloth · 01/04/2025 10:36

I’ve just reconciled my accounts and I’d cocked up somewhere. All sorted now and I just need to do it more often I think.

booked more concert tickets 🤣🤣 and have the spending money to match so all good.

HarpQuartet · 01/04/2025 19:58

@WorthySloth I hope this means you got your Madness tickets, I bet they'll be great. Are you going when the support act is Squeeze?

Can anyone help me with the "overfunded" button / available column please.

For example, my electricity bill direct debit went out today (1st of the month) and there's £9.08 in the "available" column. Since I know it's already been paid for April, is that £9.08 "spare money" that I can move to "ready to assign", or indeed straight into any category I choose?

There's nearly £400 available for council tax too (because I budget for it every month, but we actually only pay in ten installments), so that would be a very handy amount to reassign.

WorthySloth · 01/04/2025 22:29

@HarpQuartet yes I got madness tickets and yes I am seeing squeeze! Super excited. Absolutely definitely not buying any more this year. We have Ghost Guns n Roses Deftones and Simply Red coming up alongside loads of cover bands and local original bands to see too 😊

WorthySloth · 30/04/2025 10:01

Anyone still here? Payday today which is my favourite day of the month… lots of lovely cash to allocate! Then tomorrow when lots of it gets spent 🤣🤣

flipent · 30/04/2025 10:11

Still here :-)
Still not where I want to be - but when I started, I had virtually no savings and got caught out every month with unexpected bills.
Have resolved the 'unexpected' and have a reasonable savings pot. Now just need to control the impulse spending!

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 30/04/2025 12:48

I´m still here too. Still really slow going for me but gradually paying down debt and slowly slowly getting to a better position.

IKnowAristotle · 30/04/2025 14:54

I'm here. YNAB ticking along well. We're hoping to move house so I've spent the morning rejigging my budget to accommodate that.

Thankfully my holiday fund has just hit target so I can free up money from that. And no big holiday next year if we move.

QueenMabby · 30/04/2025 16:11

I’m still here too. May all fully funded and ready to go - so much will come out tomorrow it makes me wince!

HarpQuartet · 30/04/2025 20:20

Still here too 🙂 I love a new month: all the direct debits coming out gives me plenty to do on YNAB and I start to see how we're doing and what "spare" money we have that I can stick in a higher interest account for a bit.

Happierwithouthim · 30/04/2025 20:53

I’ve been using direct import which made me YNAB lazy and it stopped working over a week ago now I’ve to enter transactions and budget my pay check!!

WorthySloth · 01/05/2025 06:45

I’ve never linked my bank Id rather import manually. That way I can see how much I’m spending on gigs 😭😭

booked one yesterday on an island. I mean that’s worth it as something different isn’t it?

slet · 01/05/2025 08:42

Can I ask for some advice?

Im loving YNAB but this month ive realised ive got about a £500 discrepancy between YNAB and my linked accounts. No idea how this has happened or how to resolve it…any advice?

First check if your links are all up to date. You have to reauthorize every few months. If that has lapsed, then YNAB won't be linked.

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 04/05/2025 12:40

I´ve got €2.40 ready to assign in April but if I assign it to anything then in May it says I have overspent by that amount. I can´t seem to work out how to fix it. I´ve moved it around loads now without success so can´t even remember where it originally was.

HarpQuartet · 04/05/2025 14:12

@OrangeBlossomsinthesun does it help if you assign it to something in, say, June? I don't know the answer either, just wondering if this will do it

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 04/05/2025 14:26

Nope. I´m sure the answer is simple but I haven´t worked it out yet. I think it´s to do with 2 €1.20 transactions (DH´s coffee at work)

HarpQuartet · 04/05/2025 15:35

If you assign it in April, it says you have an overspend in May. Could you then just shift something around in May, e.g. cover it from a category like "Things I forgot to budget for"? Or do you then end up with an overspend in June 🙈

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 04/05/2025 15:44

No, then I just end up with €4.20 available in April.
The best I can get it is 2.40 available in April and 2.40 overspend in May. If I unassign 2.40 in May I end up with 4.80 available in April. My accounts are correct and reconciled.

HarpQuartet · 04/05/2025 17:34

Correct and reconciled is good enough 🙂

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 06/05/2025 15:07

Still can´t work this out. Any ideas?
