Ours has just come through for the year: £491

This has essentially doubled since we bought our house 5 years ago.

We had a water meter installed last summer and were assured it would probably save us money but the prices have been creeping up year on year.

Mines 40 a month so 480 a year. Seems quite standard?
My sister and mothers are 35 but smaller property.

Sundaygettingreadyfortheweek · 11/03/2024 12:49

Sounds average to me.

NoFunNoFrills · 11/03/2024 13:25

Same, sounds about average. Definitely not "insane".

JustBloodyWellSayNo · 11/03/2024 13:27

Mine is £451 (not on a meter), 3 bed semi, 2 of us living here. Severn Trent

teenagetantrums · 11/03/2024 13:30

Well we pay £300 a year for 2 bedroom flat, 2 of us living here and on a meter. Yours seems about right to me.

GasPanic · 11/03/2024 13:35

Well if it is a house with one person in it that hardly showers and washes clothes then maybe it is pretty high.

If it is a family of 6 with a swimming pool then maybe not.

QueenCamilla · 11/03/2024 13:36

My bill is around £450, not on meter, so I guess that's what the water company would expect the average bill to be.

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/03/2024 13:37

Ours is £650 for water and sewerage and we're not on a meter (the water company ready reckoner suggests our bill would go up if metered).
We are with Bristol Water for supply and Wessex Water for waste (although they bill jointly).

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/03/2024 13:37

Seems right. We pay £480/year . 2 adults, 2 teens, meter

Peekaboobo · 11/03/2024 13:38

Water roughly costs £150 per person per year.

Speak to your neighbours and ask them what their bill is.

shadyboots2024 · 11/03/2024 13:40

Mine is £319 and it's just me

TeaKitten · 11/03/2024 13:42

It means nothing without knowing how your big your house is and how many people live there. But it doesn’t look like an abnormal figure.

4kinell · 11/03/2024 13:47

Ours is £745 , not on a meter , three bed terrace . Seems a lot more than everyone else's

idontlikealdi · 11/03/2024 13:47

Not insane at all. Four of us on a meter and we pay pay c £500 pa in a 3 bed terrace

VolvoFan · 11/03/2024 13:52

I count my lucky stars that a water meter cannot physically be installed where I live. That truly is an insane water bill. If you don't have a water meter, they'll bill you based on the number of rooms there are in your house. Although, it will eventually become too expensive to do it that way and they will force a water meter on me. Fun times.

NCForQuestions · 11/03/2024 13:56

2 adults in Cornwall. Metered. 1 bathroom, 1 kitchen, 1 outside tap barely used.

Roughly £500/year.

citrinetrilogy · 11/03/2024 13:57

That truly is an insane water bill.

No it isn't, it's completely normal for an ordinary household and works out at just over £1 a day. Hardly extortionate.

IKnowYouBetterThanThat · 11/03/2024 13:58

Check your toilet(s) to make sure the water flow fully turns off after the flush. Mine was continuously running very slightly but the water bill pretty much doubled until it was fixed. Dry the back of the pan after a flush and then stick a bit of loo roll there. It should stay dry. If it doesn't, get a plumber in.

SweetLathyrus · 11/03/2024 13:59

Water meter. Four beds, Southern Water. When DD lived at home (until 2022), bill was £32 x 12months (£384pa). Since then, £19.10x12 (£229.90 pa). So it really depends on your circumstances, but probably not OTT.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 11/03/2024 14:00

Our bill is £65 a month for 2 adults and 1 child. With Wessex Water who are extortionate. This is on a meter.

TheWood · 11/03/2024 14:03

£49 per month here. Came home from work one day to find a note through the door saying that we were now on a water meter.

2 adults. Pre meter was £21 a month.

Iknowwhatadogis · 11/03/2024 14:05

That's less than £1.40 per day for all your water. Sounds decent.

Soccermumamir · 11/03/2024 14:16

Mine has gone up to £42 a month. We can't get a meter as there's 4 of us, so wouldn't be any less

Kitkat1523 · 11/03/2024 14:17

Sounds normal….mine is around the same

SgtJuneAckland · 11/03/2024 14:20

Seems cheap to me we have a provider for clean water and provider for sewerage. 29.07 and 38.09 so £67.16 total each month, just had a bill to say from next year all will be combined in one bill £74.55 a month for twelve months. 3 bed semi Anglian water
