Ours has just come through for the year: £491

This has essentially doubled since we bought our house 5 years ago.

We had a water meter installed last summer and were assured it would probably save us money but the prices have been creeping up year on year.

£236 a year for fresh water and private sewer system that costs us about £1K per year to maintain.

@ducksinarow123 You get a discounted rate because you are a large family? Never heard of that before...

LorlieS · 13/03/2024 12:30

@ducksinarow123 No I think Watersure is because you're on benefits? Just looked it up.

I had 4 children (though one is now an adult) and claimed tax credits (now universal credit). You have to apply and send proof

LorlieS · 13/03/2024 12:32

@ducksinarow123 Ah I see. We're a large family too but both work so we don't qualify unfortunately.

Hopingforno2in2024 · 13/03/2024 12:37

I had no idea water bills should be that cheap. We are £93 a month so going to find out what is going on.

We both worked at well but still qualified (however do rent in the south east so that qualifies us for universal credit as housing costs are included).
It might help some people anyway

Teddleshon · 13/03/2024 12:42

Seems cheap to me

Babyroobs · 13/03/2024 16:14

Ours is around £60 a month.

silversun · 13/03/2024 16:39

£1194 for a bog standard 3 bed semi with 4 people, bastard south-west water!

amiold · 13/03/2024 20:26

£727 here not on a meter... annoyingly ten mins from the lakes so plenty of the bloody stuff

LorlieS · 13/03/2024 20:36

@ducksinarow123 Are you in private rented? We only earn around £2800k p/m jointly take-home but our rent is £1,175 and our Council Tax £230p/m 😞 Literally get no benefits whatsoever.

And you have 3 dc?
I just quickly put it into entitledto calculator - 2 working adults with join income of 2800, 3 dc and rent of 1175 and it says I should get universal credit of £1002.25 per month.
Maybe you need to recheck your entitlement?

LorlieS · 13/03/2024 20:47

@ducksinarow123 Just over 16k of savings (saved for a house deposit for a house we can't afford until we inherit!) so nothing 😞

IsadoraQuill · 13/03/2024 20:49

Mine is around £800 a year. Three bed house, family of four, and the water comes from a lake six miles away.

United Utilities are an absolute joke.

No water meter either I should add!

Oh that's crap. Have you not got a nice trusted parent who will look after the money for you? Which is obviously totally against the rules and I would never advocate doing Wink

ScarletILumination · 13/03/2024 20:54

Sounds fine to me. Ours is about £750 for the year.

Much depends on the area you live.

aramox1 · 13/03/2024 22:01

Check the actual usage on your bill to see if it's increased significantly- occasionally there's a leak.

IfYouSawwhatISee · 09/04/2024 13:43

Is anyone here with water plus?

WinchSparkle80 · 09/04/2024 13:47

Wow it all seems cheap to me, ours is £720 a year, 4 bed - 2 adults and 2 teens - Southern Water

BatteryPoweredPeacock · 09/04/2024 13:49

How is that insane?

Our bill is £67pm.

TinkerTiger · 09/04/2024 13:56

I live alone and pay about £160 twice a year (£320/year)

theresnolimits · 09/04/2024 14:05

£32 a month here Thames Water (devil sewage people). Our bill halved when we went on a meter. Previously two kids at home and we were charged on the rateable value. Once they went, it was so much cheaper to be metered.

However I would say that I’d pay more if they would use it to clean up their act and restore our rivers to swimmable conditions. But they’ll only spend it on more bonuses to shareholders!

HarryBlackberry1 · 09/04/2024 14:31

£56 a month here. Only two of us in a three bed semi.
