Insane water bill!!

TheBeesKnee · 11/03/2024 12:46

Ours has just come through for the year: £491

This has essentially doubled since we bought our house 5 years ago.

We had a water meter installed last summer and were assured it would probably save us money but the prices have been creeping up year on year.

Single person here, in world's tiniest house, on a shared main with the other houses in the row so no meters can be fitted (very old cottages).

My bill is £340 for the year.

I can only assume that the dog is running all the taps when I'm out.

SgtJuneAckland · 11/03/2024 14:21

@4kinell that's very similar to ours are you under Anglian water?

NeedtostopusingMNsomuch · 11/03/2024 14:22

£60 a month here, 2 adults home full time, 2 school age children

ohtowinthelottery · 11/03/2024 14:25

£576 pa here on a water meter with 3 adults.

Yearendjoy · 11/03/2024 14:35

We pay £82 per month. They tell us we've got a water leak but nobody can find one. The water company have been out and searched for a leak and can't find one and they've replaced the meter in case that was faulty but it's still showing a leak that we're getting charged for.

You will be being charged ratable value of the property for your water bill if you can't have a meter. A meter would probably save you a lot sadly.

Danceswithweasels · 11/03/2024 14:53

Mine is £162 a year, 2 bedrooms, 1 person, Essex & Suffolk Water, no Water meter, no sewage. Looking at some of the eye watering bills on here I am very happy with my bill and have no plans for a meter.

The thing is that I moved from a metered property in the same village. When I first moved in the bill was about equivalent to what I had been paying as metered useage, so I was quite happy. Now the bill has almost doubled in four years.

Rateable value is very low, as the houses are very small. I think they just pluck a figure out of the air, quite honestly.

HelpMeGetThrough · 11/03/2024 15:12

Ours has just come through for the year: £491

I'd love that. £1200 here!!

daffodilandtulip · 11/03/2024 15:20

£532, 3 bed, one bath, 3 humans and a muddy dog.

bows101 · 11/03/2024 15:34

Ours is also £650 a year. Standard 3 bed/3 persons household

TheBeesKnee · 11/03/2024 15:57

Okay maybe I'm a bit out of touch, I was just shocked to be charged basically £500 when we used to pay £200-and-something and it doesn't really feel like we use much water on a daily basis.

It's a 2.5 terrace house with 2 adults and a baby.

I'll check the toilet for a leak, we did have our bathroom redone a couple of years ago.

bonzaitree · 11/03/2024 16:05

More washing with a baby plus general price rises.

No we are in wales

dothehokeycokey · 11/03/2024 17:40

£1200 a year

Can we swap Grin

Arthurnewyorkcity · 11/03/2024 19:47

are your bills combined for sewerage and water? Our companies have now linked as one, i used to pay 14 and 19 on a meter. Now one bill payment is 39 per month, which is slightly elevated and they always end up owing me

hattie43 · 11/03/2024 19:54

£960 per year here . Metered . We have horses though and a large garden to water in summer .

Potter10 · 11/03/2024 19:58

Well reading this I see we are very likely over paying! I've just had a £302 bill come through and that's just for the last 3 months! Sewerage is always way above our usage. Good old Welsh water "not for profit"!!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/03/2024 20:06

That's definitely right for two adults and a child!

Lordofmyflies · 12/03/2024 08:51

Sounds about right- we're with SW water, the one of most expensive water companies in UK and pay £90 a month metered and combined for 4 adults.

Svalberg · 12/03/2024 09:12

Our metered water bill is still much less than the bill was 12 years ago, before we got a meter. It's about £275 per year and we haven't had massive increases either. Thames Water

notanothernana · 12/03/2024 22:06

Southern Water, £600 a year.

SwedishEdith · 12/03/2024 22:12

Ours is £65 pm, no meter. Can't remember whether it's 10 or 12 months. Maybe once the youngest has moved out we should get a meter.

LorlieS · 12/03/2024 22:15

@SgtJuneAckland Interesting as we're also Anglian water and our bill seems expensive too (around £130 per quarter). We do have three bathrooms but I wouldn't say we were heavy water users. Definitely have way loads more showers than baths!

ducksinarow123 · 12/03/2024 22:27

£30 a month for 3 adults and 3 children in a 3/4(converted!) bed end of terrace. Because we are a large family we have a special discount rate though - watersure I think it's called.
