botwatch 81. The latest thread in a very long series about the deceptions practised by mlms. Unbelievably people are still being hooked in by these schemes where 97 of those who join lose money?

Thread 81! The scam that keeps on giving! MLM, network marking, social selling or whatever else you want to call it. It rinses you of your money, time and friends for the dream of wealth, which never happens. Why? The business model ensures that only those at the very top of the 'pyramid' stand a chance of wealth, all the rest of us just "pay to play". The dream is a nightmare. Tell your stores here.

  • Forever Living writes in its disclosure statement that, “in an average month, 89.8% of purchasers globally did not receive any meaningful compensation or earnings from Forever.”

and many spent more than they ‘earned’ of course

And of the 10% that 'earned' any money, most will be spending more on their 'biznis' than the amount coming in.

It makes you wonder why in gods name they do it, can you imagine if you went for a job interview and the interviewer told you that 89% of their employees didn't receive a salary in the average month you'd run for the bloody hills!

Twentytwentyhindsight · 05/03/2024 17:34

They actually have to pay to even be 'working' in the first place, regardless of whether they then 'earn' any money.

Wintersgirl · 05/03/2024 17:45

It's madness isn't it? What the hell keeps them there?

Twentytwentyhindsight · 05/03/2024 18:07

Caught when they're ripe and then rapidly brainwashed.

Spongebobette · 05/03/2024 18:19

And sunk cost fallacy

i saw a post by Specsaver recently (copied from elsewhere no doubt) which was all about how popcorn doesn’t all pop at the same time, don’t compare yourself to others, your time to pop will come

keep the downlines hopeful and faithful

YouOKHun · 05/03/2024 19:01

@Wintersgirl good question! I guess a fatal mix of financial illiteracy, the need to belong to something, the fact that the onus is on them to seek out the truth so carefully hidden by FLP and bots like Uber, Yawn, 2Jags etc etc, and misunderstanding that the relentless “positivity” they are subject to isn’t honest, isn’t camaraderie and isn’t a predictor of their future success.

It must help if someone has understood the human vulnerability of observer bias when “researching” and partaking in something we so desperately want (and need) to work out, but I don’t think that’s a generally understood concept is it? Neither is the sunk cost fallacy which is the other trip hazard, especially if FLP is telling you your success is almost within reach and providing a system of short term rewards that look like progress but are just distractions.

YouOKHun · 05/03/2024 19:03

Cross post @Spongebobette re the SC fallacy! I’m typing and cooking at the same time and that post took me ages!

This is the best post on this thread for a long time. You have captured the essence of the dangers of MLMs and how they trap people. All that’s missing is citations and links to research 🤣

Ubers looking into renting out / Airbnb-ing her big house now as well as tiny house as it's just not selling...more signs of the wealthy lifestyle they portray crumbling away

LeoDiCapricorn · 05/03/2024 20:25

For all the aloe gloop and supplements the FL Bots seem to be ill more times than other people I know who don't swallow gloop. Plus I genuinely thought 2Jags was in her 40s she looks fine by the way but not like she drinks in the fountain of youth.

So I'll give it all a miss thanks

YouOKHun · 05/03/2024 21:19

@ticktock19 I see the price of the main residence was reduced two weeks ago. I think that might have been the second price reduction. She spent a lot on it and no doubt the builder she used has since submitted his invoices for all his labour since their split.

What with the lack of takers for the holiday home, the decline in her FLP activity (until recently) and FLP’s glory days being over, she must be concerned. The botting skillset is not very transferable to the real world and she’s flogging a dead horse in FLP and her expenses don’t look to have shrunk much.

Her accounts appeared at CH in January - did anyone see them?

NormalForNuneaton · 05/03/2024 21:54

Knitted Headband bot has just posted this:

"I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! 😍
So I got contacted earlier by the company I'm building my business with and personally invited to drink cocktails in Manchester with the Managing Director for the UK, Ireland and Iceland!!!... 😲 "

....surely its glaringly obvious that as she was only invited earlier then she's basically just there to make the event look better attended. Clearly wasn't the uptake they were hoping for.

Another sign of the desperate state of affairs.

MaybeItsJustTimeToStop · 05/03/2024 22:27

@NormalForNuneaton and the pornstar martini was made with gloop 🤮

Sparklybutold · 05/03/2024 22:39

New to the thread. I recently purchased tropic, I understand it's an mlm… any more info?

Edited

Rather apt name for a cocktail made from aloe jizz! 🤮🤑

LibyanFeet · 05/03/2024 22:59

Did someone mention the T word? 😁

ticktock19 · 05/03/2024 23:23

I agree @YouOKHun, I'm sure it was originally on for £1.25 million. I can imagine her divorce is going to cost her a great deal especially if she's intent on keeping 'moneypit by the sea' too

YouOKHun · 06/03/2024 00:08

Yes @LibyanFeet I’m afraid so!

@Sparklybutold welcome to the thread. No more Tropic purchasing from now on ;)
It is MLM whatever is claimed. There are quite a lot of articles out there about it. It was started by an Apprentice winner. The products are very expensive. Where I live it was popular a few years ago among the more monied, it kind of took over from Arbonne among a certain group. No one is involved anymore with Tropic around here.

definitelynotabot · 06/03/2024 06:15

Round here Oriflame seem to be sucking up the ex BS bots. I hadn't heard of it in years. Going to have to keep my head down to avoid party invites!

But I'm really liking the products 🥺

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 06/03/2024 10:35

The Talented Ladies Club (absolutely fab btw, look them up) did a write up on Tropic a couple of years ago IIRC. They felt that it was a different MLM and possibly nicer/more ethical, but having met a pile of 'ambassadors' at my local hotel not long ago the jury's out for me.

Contraryjane · 06/03/2024 18:12

Yawn loves to sprinkle her posts with “bloody”.
Is that really necessary? I’m not a prude, I’ve worked in male dominated industries, I’ve heard everything.
I see knitted headband says “blinking” rather than bloody.

YouOKHun · 06/03/2024 19:17

I see Bruv is now thoroughly ensconced with Apprentice Bot and her coaching/therapising culty cure-all scam. I have real concerns about her agenda.
