Universal credit managed migration thread

ChristmasCatBells · 28/06/2023 14:50

Anyone else waiting for a migration notice this year?
Looks like they are planning to move people on tax credits only onto universal credit this year but haven't released any detailed timetables about areas.
Thought it might be useful to share experiences and information on here for those affected.

No children's savings aren't counted. I guess if the parents suddenly start having their savings go down, Uc can investigate them for deprivation of capital if they suspect it is being given away. I suspect this is why they ask for bank statements to show savings when first making the claim, so if it suddenly disappears after the 12 month grace period, they can ask where it has gone. I really am not sure how they will police it but if they suspect you have deliberately deprived yourself of assets in order to claim benefits then they can treat you as if you still have them.

really thats interesting im very surprised they dont count them tbh

CTC/WTC certainly had more holes than a sieve lol

You will automatically be awarded the LCWRA element on your claim which will give you an extra element of around £390 a month ( sorry can't remember the exact figure ). No need to hand in sick notes, just make sure they know you are in ESA support group. I am assuming you are receiving Income related ESA ? if any part of your ESA is contributions based then that would be paid separately to UC but then deducted in full.

yes income based so that sounds pretty straight forward

I got my letter today, have until Feb 24 to apply for UC. I've mentioned in this post before that I'm not going to apply as I haven't received TC for a couple of years due to a overpayment.

Just wondering would it be best to phone TC now and say I won't be moving over and see how quickly the want the overpayment paid back or just hold off until Feb next year. Just slightly worried that they will want the whole lot (just over £1000) upfront.

megletthesecond · 04/10/2023 18:00

Of course children's savings shouldn't be counted. Their birth gifts and years of birthday money are nothing to do with me. That's for them to get a little car or boost them at Uni.

Crumbcatcher · 04/10/2023 18:14

I think I'm being responsible to have savings. I'm a homeowner, a lone parent, I need a backup plan. If my boiler goes, I'm going to need £3-4K. And I can't only have that amount saved as it takes so long to build it back up.

itsallforyouandmee · 04/10/2023 18:31

Does anyone know if I will get the cost of living payment in November. Received tax credit, was supposed to migrate over to uc 16 September but not bothered as I'm getting a pay rise in November so doesn't seem worthy he hassle. It says on line to get cost of living you have to have received a payment of tax credit between 18 august and 18 September, which I did but because I no longer claim I'm wondering if I will be entitled to it.

@Babyroobs do you know

Hi. Yes if you had a tax credits claim during the qualifying period I believe you should still get the cost of living payment.

itsallforyouandmee · 04/10/2023 18:35

@Babyroobs that's great thank you for answering, that will see me through until I get my pay rise.

Candlestickchic · 04/10/2023 19:10

Hi, does everyone have to take in bank statements to the job centre when you migrate, or only if you have savings over a certain amount? And how do they monitor it thereafter- assume you self-report each month and they check up every so often? TIA

megletthesecond · 04/10/2023 20:15

I have six bank accounts. They're going to love me.

@NewUserName23 Can you please confirm when was the letter printed ? Date on the top right ?

Chasingsquirrels · 05/10/2023 14:00

Are personal pension contributions taken into account for UC purposes for PAYE (no self employment) income?

I'm seeing conflicting info on this.

My letter is dated 2nd October and I must claim by 2nd February.

malok1 · 05/10/2023 15:21

@NewUserName23 thanks, looks like they giving 4 months notices now compare to 2 & 3 months previously

malok1 · 05/10/2023 15:24

@NewUserName23 do you remember if/how long ago you received the Leaflet to get ready?

NewUserName23 · 05/10/2023 15:40

@malok1 I think it was early last week, it was very recent.

malok1 · 05/10/2023 16:01

@NewUserName23 i see. I received mine on the 22nd September but no actual migration letter yet, but it's good that they are providing atleast 4 months now.

catskittens · 02/10/2023 21:21

im honestly gob smacked how many on here have savings especially many with 16k +

who made these rules was seriously generous to claimants no wonder they are scrapping CTC/WTC

It was Labour buying off the middle classes.

AlwaysFrazzled88 · 06/10/2023 09:10

The one with the rental properties thinking they can still claim UC like they did with TC. The cheek!
