I have just gone into my account and I started in June 2021, gradually building up to full holdings two months ago.

I raided it once to get my brother out of a hole, (£5k)(he paid me back as soon as probate was granted) but until the last few months I have been reinvesting.

I have won £1,125 over that time.

DH has only just started out with £50k from the inheritance.

Now when the winnings go into our accounts I scoop it out and put it straight into a savings account.

Jesus H Christ, when did I get so sensible.😱

Cowhen · 07/07/2023 22:33

@Pemba How does anyone else manage this?

You could use a different browser just for your DH's account. For example, if you're using Chrome, then you could download Firefox and sign him in only on Firefox. * *

Now July 8th and my prize is not in my bank account. Is this normal? Not showing in pending transactions either. Has everyone else had theirs already?

nettie434 · 08/07/2023 08:49

I would say that's normal @MorrisZapp. The notice about smaller prizes only came through on the 4th July. I would give it a couple more days.

DH got his but mine isn't in yet. However they are different banks and we have had that before. I am expecting mine on Monday

Ohmylovejune · 08/07/2023 10:54

It might be because this month had a lost of lost days to weekends. We only knew of the win on 4th, and now we've hit another weekend.

DuckBushCityLimit · 08/07/2023 12:24

@Pemba The prize checker app lets you add as many holder numbers as you like, so you could use that to check both yours and your DH's. It doesn't have any actual log-in or other link to your account details so it's pretty secure from that point of view. All you can do with it is check if a particular holder number has had any wins.

That's what I do

Best month ever for me £1000! plus a £25 on £25,000 . Nothing for my DH though and he has about the same amount in holdings. He's won more than me generally over the last year but we've never had an individual prize bigger than £100 before. And never more than a few hundred total in a month.

Pemba · 08/07/2023 18:26

Thanks @Cowhen and @DuckBushCityLimit . I will try the app maybe.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 08/07/2023 18:35

Wow, @Hopefullydone, congratulations! Have you decided what to do with your winnings?

Heretotry · 14/07/2023 17:13

Ive opened an account today. Starting off with 1k I'll move the other 7k in later when it's all been approved

Good luck!

Heretotry · 15/07/2023 09:37

How long does it usually take to complete there check after photo I.d and proof of address has been sent?

I'm assuming being the weekend has helped move things along

LuckOfTheDrawer · 15/07/2023 10:08

Did Martine Lewis / Money Saving Expert work out the number of bonds you need to be highly likely to hit the expected prize fund percentage in winnings, or did I imagine that 🧐? I feel like I read it, and it was something like £26k.

Happiestathome · 15/07/2023 10:19

@LuckOfTheDrawer this is it based on 3.7% from the website

LuckOfTheDrawer · 15/07/2023 10:37

Thanks Happiestathome - I'm trying to decide how much to keep in PBs (we'll probably halve the amount that we have).

Ohmylovejune · 15/07/2023 13:18

If you think of it logically then most people will win less than the prize fund percentage because the large prizes give a few lucky winners a much, much, higher percentage.

The final decision though is individual based on

Individuals tax position in terms of investment income, and
Individuals level at which they are prepared to gamble income in the hope they win bigger and "for the fun" of imagining each month that they might win big

LuckOfTheDrawer · 15/07/2023 13:36

Yes, it does make sense - I calculated our return over the last 6 months, and we've been relatively lucky actually 🙂.

Nonetheless, there are other things we need to do with our money - we're going to pay a chunk off our mortgage, and we'll consider moving the rest into an ISA with a guaranteed return. DS will keep his at the least, so I'll still be able to check every month!

Thegoodthieves · 16/07/2023 09:40

Am I right in thinking if I buy premium bonds today the first draw they’ll be entered into will be the one at the start of September?

From my understanding yes. I've just started aswell . I'm actually still waiting for my checks to be completed

boatgirl81 · 16/07/2023 09:59

Yes, the money needs to be in for a full calendar month before the draw so I tend to pay money in on the 27/28th in any given month and then it's not sitting there for nearly 2 months earning nothing.

boatgirl81 · 16/07/2023 10:01

Also I auto invest my prizes so for example if I win £50 in the August draw, it is entered for the September draw.

Ohmylovejune · 16/07/2023 12:45

Yes the reinvested winnings go straight into next draw but saved money needs to be in a full month.

OneFrenchEgg · 16/07/2023 13:25

Just added another £225 so I'm finally over the £10k mark - whoop whoop 🙌
