@napsarelifewithtwo like if you pick lottery numbers and then don't play them - what if??!

@Blondeshavemorefun for me the 'magic number' would be £150 a month.

In my basic savings account I would get £154 a month if I had my FH in there. So even winning £150 I'd still not be hitting it but it would be worth it for the potential big win. But really if I could be bothered to look about more and lock my money away even for a short time I could get £200 a month so I am wondering if I should up my expectations to closer to £200 a month from PBs on average.

So far this year I have averaged about £68 a month, which is just too far off so I'm considering options now.

@napsarelifewithtwo so £154 x 12 , £1848 a year

I can only dream of £50k but if I did have I think I would keep in full holdings for the just incase

But I get why £2k a year interest for some would be to move them

Yes @Selfesteem23 you are right I don't have a lot. Def less than 5 figures

But often do win £25

Jan feb March £25

April nothing

May 75

June 125

July 225

So hoping august will be £325 😂😂🙀

Seriously though I think I have had my luck this year winning £500

And next few months prob get nothing

But since the prize amount changed I seem to be doing better

I'm thrilled if win £25

And of course we don't lose the money where dh and friends do the lottery often £10 a week so £500 a year and never win so to me that's £5k over 10yrs they could have put into pb and be near what I have

The thing is internet rates and prize rates have been steadily increasing (prize fund was only 1.4% a year ago) so a crude average for the past 12 months is 2.87% so if your winnings amount to that or more since July 2022 you’re doing pretty well and won’t have done much better in savings.

brimfulofsmashaonthe45ish · 05/07/2023 12:58

Vanquis offering 5.9%

I will miss the excitement but I can't look the other way anymore

KohlaParasaurus · 05/07/2023 13:41

I like the idea upthread of having a monthly PB prize "competition" with DH and the "winner" taking us both out for dinner. I'll probably keep FH for both of us (large scale money stuff is a pink job in our household) for the easy access and tax free status.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/07/2023 14:15

As any winnings are tax free doesn't it make more sense to have in pb rather then in an account to be taxed

@OneFrenchEgg exactly like having set lottery numbers and not playing them. If I pull my bonds I know I'll wonder if that month was my month haha

napsarelifewithtwo · 05/07/2023 14:21

@Blondeshavemorefun yeah exactly. It's just shy of 2k interest and that's in the lowest interest rate one. So as much as I enjoy the 'what if' with rising costs I don't know how long I can justify not earning that much interest. If I think about it in terms of what I can get with it that's enough for a family holiday, or 2 months nursery fees!

brimfulofsmashaonthe45ish · 05/07/2023 14:29

For me with £150k it doesn't suit, even with the taxable point

Fed up Sad

Yes I get that @napsarelifewithtwo as it's a guaranteed 2k

With 4%+ available at most banks now for flexible savings put you 50k in and get 2k interest a year. That's nearly triple my 700 quid wins in last 12 months on bonds

But you are still here @Daftjon ....

Or are you going to move

The major benefit to me of the NS&I is that they are tax free winnings. I've already topped up my ISA this year.

Daftjon · 05/07/2023 15:56

I'm pulling all my money out this month. Sainsbury savings 4.35%

OneFrenchEgg · 05/07/2023 16:01

Gosh I get the nursery fees being paid by interest, that would be fab!

monotonemusings · 05/07/2023 16:02

Investec are offering 6% for a year

Ohmylovejune · 05/07/2023 18:16

The choice is really affected by your personal tax rate. Its just not comparable between us at all.

slithytoveisascientist · 05/07/2023 21:52

Winnings

£100 and £25 on £28k
£100 on £3k
£0 on £3k

Caterina99 · 06/07/2023 18:06

DH and I both have 25k. He got £250 I got nothing.

That’s actually our best month for ages and ages. DH last won in January £25 and Ive had more steady wins, but still low amounts each month so usually £25 or £50.

So yeah not great rate of return, but they suit us for now with the easy access and tax free, and I like the excitement each month!

WobblyLondoner · 06/07/2023 19:19

£200 on £45k.

I've won £1550 in the last 6 months, massively boosted by winning £1125 one month (when I had full holdings).

SensitiveB · 06/07/2023 20:51

I won 275 on 50k which my best month yet but sadly have now cashed some bonds to pay for a car to hsve its service !

Pemba · 07/07/2023 11:24

Checked on Tuesday (4th) and DH and me (full holdings and nearly full holdings) had won £250 each. Very pleased with that!

But we still have not received the emails from Ns&i which usually come around the 3rd, looking back. Anyone else?

I have checked in Spam.

Pemba · 07/07/2023 12:25

Aah, scratch that. DH did receive the email and I can see his prize coming in in 'pending' on our Joint account.

It turns out that I won nothing at all this month, somehow I must have logged into his account thinking it was mine.. And I did win £250 in June. Still a bit confused as to what happened. Feel stoopid and naturally a little disappointed. This is all on our desktop pc.

You see I am usually the one who handles the financial stuff, but it's difficult with ns&i as my browser wants to remember details of one person and infills those details automatically, plus it won't show you what you've just typed. How does anyone else manage this?

Probably we each need to get the app on our smartphones instead to avoid confusion next month. I always thought that was unnecessary /a bit risky though?
