£500 and a £50 for me on full holdings. Well chuffed, especially as I also won £500 (and £100) last month!

However, the year hadn't been great up until that point.

I'm up to £1450 since Jan, so seems like it's heading in line with the interest rate advertised with 5 more draws before the end of the year.

MercyChant66 · 04/07/2023 20:21

Finally won something on my FH - £200! Biggest win ever and my yearly interest rate is 0.8% so I really shouldn't hold onto them any longer. It's all been pretty disappointing. Just very unlucky I suppose. 😥

hettiethehare · 04/07/2023 20:36

I've just looked back through my winnings over the last 4 months since I've had FH - £175, £150, £125 and then £100. I'm not liking this pattern!

Sure I asked this before but cba to scroll back

For those who have £50k what do you expect to win to make the amount of in an account with interest

brimfulofsmashaonthe45ish · 04/07/2023 22:33

We now have 3 x FH

I think it's time to pull them for long term savings of 6%

I cannot justify winning £275 each month

Even though it's so much fun Sad

808Kate1 · 04/07/2023 22:35

@RainyDaysAndHolidays We have exactly the same regional issue as you. How did you find out which was the correct one?

ChatBFP · 04/07/2023 22:40

@Blondeshavemorefun

I think depends on circumstances - premium bonds tax free, so for some an effective rate of 3% might be better than 4.5% but interest taxed at higher rate.

We have a full holding as of this month. Won nothing last month and have won nothing since December on a £17k holding. If we don't win soon, this year will look blooming terrible and we will have to look elsewhere. Maybe the 4% will finally help us.

ChatBFP · 04/07/2023 22:41

But @Blondeshavemorefun

At 4%, I guess you want £2k to match a savings account, less if you are in the position of paying tax on savings.

You wouid get £2k interest a year on £50k 🙀🙀

OP posts:
ChatBFP · 04/07/2023 22:44

Well, assuming you could get 4% elsewhere (which currently you can), yes

ChatBFP · 04/07/2023 22:46

So average of £150+ a month would be a good result.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/07/2023 08:22

Why don't you check his number for him. I check dh tho he's has a tiny amount - more tinier than me - so never won

DH won £100

napsarelifewithtwo · 05/07/2023 02:27

@Blondeshavemorefun for me the 'magic number' would be £150 a month.

In my basic savings account I would get £154 a month if I had my FH in there. So even winning £150 I'd still not be hitting it but it would be worth it for the potential big win. But really if I could be bothered to look about more and lock my money away even for a short time I could get £200 a month so I am wondering if I should up my expectations to closer to £200 a month from PBs on average.

So far this year I have averaged about £68 a month, which is just too far off so I'm considering options now.

OneFrenchEgg · 05/07/2023 07:35

Posters with FH that say they are going to move to guaranteed interest accounts - I wonder how many actually have, or grumble and then hang in there just in case? Even with way less, the lure is quite strong to keep them.

WeAreBorg · 05/07/2023 07:36

£125 this month for me! Planning to treat myself to an annual boiler service. Yes I am living the dream

The win rate is something like 1/30000 bonds. So for £4000, you'd expect to win something like once every eight months. At a return of 3%, you'd hope those winnings would be about £120 - but the most common prize is obviously the £25.

I have about 40k, thus tend to win something monthly. Ignoring my big win, my return is 3% so far this year.

But then I did get a big win too - 10k.

My husband grumbles, even though he only has 1k in there and won £100 on it.

Yeah I get it. The win rate is actually lower and has gone down to I think 1/22000 for next month. I don’t expect to win often.

it’s pretty obvious FH would get more as
more chances to be drawn. My partner has FH and he wins most months but not huge amounts more like 25/50/75. He probably would be better with a higher interest account now but he likes the win!

Although the OP @Blondeshavemorefun doesn’t have a huge amount in if I recall ( may be wrong?) and she seems to do very well. I do see smaller amounts win the big prizes too on the list. So it can happen. Luck of the draw 😊

£150 a month minimum - we’re averaging £96 at the moment. Realistically it should be more between £200-£250 a month.

Locked away, £50k can make you more than 6k across 2 years assuming not much changes so honestly PB is a poor return unless you have greater than average luck.

DH is much more into it than I am, he believes our time will come but it’s been 20 years and it’s not arrived yet 😂🤣

However, glass half full…..

I think we’re in a toxic relationship with PB 😂 I want to leave but can’t bring myself too….

OneFrenchEgg · 05/07/2023 08:26

@Abouttimemum Grin that's what I suspected - it's like a little hook to keep you interested!

Trumpton · 05/07/2023 08:41

DH £25k got £250 this month
I have same amount and got nuthin’

Thestartofsomethinggood · 05/07/2023 08:50

£25 on about £20000

napsarelifewithtwo · 05/07/2023 08:58

@OneFrenchEgg you are not wrong. This is the first month I've considered moving as before I was at least winning more than £25 but you are right in that I am torn with the 'but what if I win big'

napsarelifewithtwo · 05/07/2023 08:59

@OneFrenchEgg actually don't even have to win big big. Even winning £500 would then put me back on track interest wise which is enough
