Hi. New to the forum and PIP and am hoping some of the forum members can help me understand the claim process a little better, I applied for PIP in early December 2022. DWP told me that Capita had received my forms on December 9th. But i have not had a phone assessment scheduled yet. So i called Capita just to make sure everything was fine with my claim. They told me this morning that my claim "is in initial review" and that they "are requesting info from my medical contacts so they can do a Paper assessment". Is this a good/bad sign that my claim will be successful?

Hey,

im in Surrey too and my mum applied just after me (also surrey - south croydon ish) her assesment was a few days after yours she hasn’t heard anything either. Mine was 30th june and iv had 2 texts to say we haven’t made a decision yet but don’t ring us basically. A lot of ppl are getting texts to confirm being awarded or getting funds into bank about 2-3 weeks after assessment but I think Surrey is a whole other story lol.
please keep me updated when you do hear?? Good luck I hope it’s positive news x

Klymr · 17/07/2023 22:59

Hey so today I got the “we still haven’t made a decision” text from DWP, for the second time since my assesment about 19 days ago. I know that means that they’re still dealing with it, but could that be that they have contacted my gp & are waiting on a response? Because my gp will take months to respond I just know it. They are not very fast acting, I have had to have my weekly repeat prescriptions set up on an auto service because my gp surgery were unable to issue the prescription every Friday even if requested on Monday. They are not fast acting, if they reply atall, I know it will be a very long wait. I hope Dwp don’t reject my claim based off of my gp not getting back to them in time.
I tried to work my score out from the guide which someine on here kindly sent me, but you just never know how they marked it off I think some questions I was asked like “but you can walk 50 metres??” Not “can you?” And “you have more good days then bad days so a normal day would be when you aren’t having a flare up” I did correct her and say no on average I have more bad days than good, on a weekly basis I have 4-5 flare up days, and if I’m lucky 2-3 days where the pain is at a level where my medication can be effective enough that I can function, get up and wash, drive to my friends to get my hair washed etc. my majority are bad days. I felt the wording was almost suggestive now I look back, and upon seeing the point scoring guide it looks like maybe I was being promoted to give a lower scoring answer, but then I can’t think what the lady doing my assessment would benefit from doing that, so maybe I’m just being paro as I HATE waiting and the unknown. Im so nervous. I know I have to wait but it gives me time to wind myself up and convince myself I’m going to be refused.
the fact they are still dealing with it 3 weeks later, could be a good sign? As if I scored really low and didn’t meet the criteria, they prob would have just rejected it & id have heard by now??

im in Surrey it was a new claim, I think Surrey have a long wait after assessment, probably the full 8 weeks. I saw on another forum a lady from Surrey had assessment last week and was told today that she was not awarded anything, so I’m hoping the long wait is a good sign xxxx

Munches · 17/07/2023 23:42

I’m in Surrey . Waited a long time for my review. Have been awarded the higher rate . Had my assessment first week of June and awarded three weeks later. Good luck .

Tiredmum1223 · 20/07/2023 17:48

Hello, just thought I'd update. I found out today that after having to go to an MR because the person doing the assessment lied on my report and I was awarded nothing. I have now been awarded enhanced rate for both mobility and care. I'm am so pleased, it was such a stressful time and took 20 weeks but I got there jn the end. I hope everyone gets the good news they deserve! 🙏

A question now though, is it paid monthly and is there a specific date they pay it on? x

vickibee · 20/07/2023 18:28

It’s paid 4 weekly but you will be due a big back payment for your long wait. I am pleased you got a good outcome

Tiredmum1223 · 20/07/2023 18:38

@vickibee thank you for your reply. Thats great to know it is 4 weekly. How long did the back pay take to come? Sorry for all the questions 🙈.

vickibee · 20/07/2023 18:44

It usually hits Yr bank account before the letter arrives so a matter of days.

Klymr · 21/07/2023 01:32

Hey update: I had a letter saying they have all the evidence they need & to wait to hear.

first time application- Surrey. Had assessment 30june.

is this a bad sign? Xxx

Klymr · 23/07/2023 05:35

Hi guys,

has anyone had experience with this kind of correspondence before?? Texts to say still making decision, then a letter to say we have now received all the info we required to make a decision, and you will hear shortly.
do you think that means they reached out to my gp for confirmation probably..? Im hoping if I had scored low in assesment then they wouldn’t have bothered following it through?? I hate not knowing lol. My assesment was 30th June. So only 3 and a bit weeks ago. Did anybody else get the “we now have all the information we need to make your decision please wait to hear” letter…. And get good news lol? Xx

I don't think they contact GP's very often which is why it's important to send as much medical evidence as you can yourself.

Yes, I did. I've just been upgraded to Enhanced x2 on renewal. I very much doubt they contacted anyone about my medical notes. Having said that, I obtained online access to my summary records at my GP surgery (they use Systm Online) a while ago, and printed out and send a copy of my my 'Summary Records' and all consultants' letters etc from the past few years.

I'm delighted to be able to retain my blue badge.

Definitely I was unable to get any from my gp when I requested as they kept saying admin staff deal with those requests and theyv not been in etc etc and I was running out of time, I sent screenshots of my my gp app with the words chronic pain condition and pics of my prescriptions with name of meds etc for lastv3 months and an old a&e discharge letter I found in an email as id sent it in to get out of a parking ticket lol!!! Which stated my diagnosis and my full name dob etc etc on it.
i am usually such a paperwork hoarder but when moving house 2 boxes magically vanished. I wonder during the weeks between my assesment being submitted, and them saying they are ready to make a decision, there was about 3 weeks inbetween where I was getting texts to say we are not ready to make a decision yet etc, what the hold up was? Possibly just a queuing system maybe there’s alot of back log. My mum had her assessment 5 weeks ago and was told 2 weeks ago that a decision has been made but hasnt heard anything since, which surprises me as shes had spinal surgery and has no feeling in one leg and registered disabled, can’t walk unaided etc. id be amazed if she didn’t make the higher amount, they must just be so back logged in our area xx

AutumnCrow · 23/07/2023 16:30

@Klymr it took 17 days for my decision letter to arrive, after the ‘we have made a decision’ text.

I think there’s a backlog in the print room / post room. Unless it’s deliberate for some strange DWP reason.

alwaysommymind · 23/07/2023 19:11

It's been 5 weeks since I replied and ive only had a text a week later to say it's been passed to IAS. Is it to soon to call and ask where it's up to

Munches · 23/07/2023 20:20

They called my GP. I’ve seen the report . Mine is for mental health and I’ve been awarded the enhanced rate.

Thank you - you asked the question I wanted to know lol.
mines first time application. Had assesmebt 30th June. Few days later Dwp confirmed received it. Have had txts keeping me updated saying we have not yet made decision, for a couple of weeks. Then a letter came 12th July to say that they have all they need to make a decision etc etc the generic one.
glad to hear that ppl have had good outcomes after getting that letter lol.

i heard so many stories of funds just appearing in banks a few days after assesment etc so iv been losing faith a bit but i prey it’s good news for me. Thanks for getting back to me xxxxx

Lodol · 24/07/2023 10:50

Hi everyone I applied on 16th June, had an assessment this morning which lasted just over an hour ; the lady seemed nice and asked a lot of questions. She said she will do the report today and DWP will have an outcome in about 8 weeks! Although that seems extremely long?

Hi, yes I was told '8 weeks' but it was actually less than that. More like four and a half weeks.

Lodol · 24/07/2023 12:27

Oh that’s reassuring , do you find out what they score you or is it just a wait and see?

Nightimeer · 24/07/2023 14:12

@Lodol how long did you wait to hear for assessment. I applied on 23 June not heard anything yet

Lodol · 24/07/2023 14:20

I found out 2 weeks ago but I didn’t receive any text I just got a letter so about 3/4 weeks

All that info was in the decision letter that came four and half weeks after the assessment. In between I got various 'bumph' texts and a letter saying that they had everything they needed, were making a decision, had made a decision, don't call us we'll call you ...

The PIP helpline call handlers won't, all the messages say, discuss the decision over the phone until you have received the decision letter.

If your PIP claim is a Renewal then there is a backdoor way of finding out if you've been re-awarded by using the PIP helpline, as the automated part will tell you the date and amount of your next payment, and then you can end the call before you go into the queue to speak to a human. If it's a new claim you can't do this, I don't think - but watch your bank account.

Sympathies to everyone - it's so damn stressful Flowers

JimnJoyce · 24/07/2023 14:40

I’m in shock! Just received a call from an 0800 number from a DWP decision maker telling me I’ve been awarded PIP backdated to May and they will be sending me the letter out today.
Honestly believed I’d have to go down the MR and appeal route.
Had my phone interview on 11 July.

Lodol · 24/07/2023 15:47
