PIP

Hi. New to the forum and PIP and am hoping some of the forum members can help me understand the claim process a little better, I applied for PIP in early December 2022. DWP told me that Capita had received my forms on December 9th. But i have not had a phone assessment scheduled yet. So i called Capita just to make sure everything was fine with my claim. They told me this morning that my claim "is in initial review" and that they "are requesting info from my medical contacts so they can do a Paper assessment". Is this a good/bad sign that my claim will be successful?

@EachandEveryone that’s good news. How long did it take all together from applying

MyOtherNameToday · 06/07/2023 15:25

Can I please ask a question? This is all new to me. I haven't received any text or letter BUT a lump of money landed in my account last night. I'm assuming I have been awarded PIP at higher rate and this was it backdated for the last few months (it was very slow) but I haven't received anything in writing to confirm it. Did this happen to anyone else? Should I just give it a few days or start phoning them? Thanks.

As2021 · 06/07/2023 15:26

I started getting PIP in October 2022. It was a lump sum payment going back to cover from April 2022. I don't actually know how I got it as I never sent the forms back but also I didn't have any assessment via phone or in person so I'm not sure if at times they just use your medical history. I will state that the date they have paid me from coincides with having been signed off work from dr totalling 6 months at that point.

I got my letter after the lump sum but in your bank statement it will say PIP

Thanks! I actually need the letter to streamline the process of applying for a blue badge (I was advised to wait for the outcome as it makes the blue badge process easier) so do you remember how long after the payment the letter came?

I applied in March and did a phone assessment three weeks ago. Got the text to say Ive been awarded this morning. Im curious to know how much and what for. Does anyone know how much the letter takes to come?

vickibee · 07/07/2023 08:08

my son turned 16 in February and is moving from DLA. I got a letter yesterday to say they have enough information for a paper assessment. I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing? It is good as he would never manage a face to face assessment. The whole process takes so long and is so stressful. It is four months on and still no decision.

Hi I had my telephone assesment 29th june (2 wks tomo) the lady was nice but kept asking “on an average day” as I have a chronic pain condition there is no average days some days im bedbound some days I’m in pain but can walk and shower and some days (not often) I have just an annoying twinge. I was wondering after looking at the point system, for each question can you only get 1 answer selected? For example the personal hygiene I would have got a tick for cant wash my own hair, but also that I need equipment (hand rails) in the bathroom, and that I need supervision (I told them I can’t lock the door incase I fall and someone has to come get me- but I do close it because I don’t want the entire household to see me naked obv) so would I get 2 points for the not being able to wash my hair, and 2 for not being able to shower without aids such as rails. Or would the assesor only award 2 points overall for that question??
i know it says online 6-8 weeks from the assesment but on every forum iv looked at people seem to be getting text messages to confirm they will be awarded Pip, within 2-3 weeks of the assessment. Alot of people say they got a payment before the text or letter arrived!!

xx

I got my payment yesterday it all happened very quickly I think my assessment was two weeks ago

Lodol · 13/07/2023 14:36

Hi everyone
just to update, I have received a letter today for an assessment via telephone on 24th July. Application submitted on 16th June to about 5 weeks for me from application to assessment

will keep you updated although I didn’t receive any text messages etc

Bromptotoo · 13/07/2023 15:13

I've had several people report with both PIP and Attendance Allowance (equivalent benefit for those over State Pension Age) that the first inkling of an award was a credit to their bank accounts.

I'm not sure whether DWP are sluggardly with paperwork or whether it's the post.

Realistically, probably both.

This has happened to a few clients of mine. It seems they're in such utter chaos at DWP that they're getting the money paid before the decision letters have been done.

It's pretty rare in my experience, but they do award PIP just based on the form and supporting evidence sometimes.

PIP should be backdated to the date that you rang and asked for the form, so I think that's just a coincidence.

MyOtherNameToday · 14/07/2023 08:48

I have a question. I have an incurable neurological condition but PIP was awarded for 4 years. Is this standard? I mean unless there's a miracle cure invented it's not going away!

I have incurable (and untreatable) neuromuscular condition and have been awarded a 5 year award.

MyOtherNameToday · 14/07/2023 18:20

Thanks @mrsfeatherbottom it's probably standard then. It's just all new to me. And a hug to you neuro stuff is shit.

Yea its quite normal, I have a life long debilitating mental health disorder that will never go away and I have repeatedly only been given it for 3-4 years at a time, next time expect them to say you are fine / nothing wrong with you as they did to me even though I have letters from 3 specialists. When their happens take it all the way to tribunal, I did this and a coupel of weeks before they called me and said they looked again and I am actually entitled to the enhanced rate even though they gave me 0 points in the initial assessment. They are a shower of shites and treat people so disrespectfully and in such a degrading manner. Don't let them win. So glad I'm in Scotland and if ya have a life time illness ya get a lifetime award, just waiting for mine to be moved over. Good luck ❤️

That'd hownitbworked for me when I first got diagnosed bit they dn made up for at each assessment since,

Can I ask, to those who received your first payment before getting a text or letter - what time was it paid in?? Iv heard some ppl say after 9am and some say around midnight. I know going forward the payments go in around midnight but the first payment with the backdated funds etc, is that processed manually during office hours?

also I asked a few days ago but not sure if anyone caught it? On the questions for example the personal care one, can you only be selected one of the answers? Like 3 of the answers applied to me, can’t wash my own hair, need physical aids (hand rail) and another one i can’t remember off top of my head but when I read the point scoring system I know I highlighted 3 of the answers, all of which were 2 points. So would I have scored 6 points from that question or do they only select one answer per section??? Im explaining that badly. Hope someone gets what I mean sorry im autistic and can’t always word things how they are in my head & put across my point well lol x

Klymr · 17/07/2023 00:25

I had my assessment on friday 30th june

On monday 3rd at 8am I received text to say my report was received.

So 2 weeks today it was received, I know a lot of people are hearing back around 2 week mark, although I know it states 8 so it can take 8. Just wondering if anybody had a different time scale from when the report was received, to payment? On a new claim. Or is it around 2-3 wks? X

Munches · 17/07/2023 06:20

My review, from start to finish, took over a year. I have now been awarded higher rate and received a lump sum as well. Payments are going up.

The money landed in my account during the night- not in the day.

MattDamon · 17/07/2023 07:16

@Klymr

You can only score on one of the answers per question. This example form should give you a better idea: https://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/pip-test-form (you don't need to fill in the email to use it)

In terms of payment, I received the 'We have awarded you PIP' text 15 days after my assessment and 4 days later I received my back payment.

Munches · 17/07/2023 18:34

Quick question if anyone can help…

So I have been awarded pip but out of curiosity I would really like to see the report my Dr sent to DWP. I have contacted the surgery and they’re saying that they will call me back tomorrow as they aren’t sure I am allowed to see it .

This has worried me. I have mental health illnesses. Would it be because of this why they can’t show me? Are they allowed to not show me? I thought I had rights to view my own medical records.

Please can someone help ?

Klymr · 17/07/2023 22:26

Hey, so I used to work in gp surgery for a while and it is hard to know what we could and couldnt share with people, as its information requested by a 3rd party (Dwp) I would have made the assumption, which they probably have too, that the information being shared, whether it can be and who with and how this should be requested etc, is down to them and their policies etc. you can see the information, but Dwp would probably have to be the ones to release it to you. Your gp surgery prob aren’t aware of the guidelines of the data sharing policy that Dwp have, and the documentation is technically theirs as they requested it, so to be safe I probably would have said the same thing babe. To cover myself. Ask the Dwp (pip) for the report, as it is their data to share with you and yes Ofcourse you want to see it, and you have a right, but data sharing rules are so strict, for all the right reasons.
Im sure that there’s nothing to worry about, please don’t let yourself get worked up over it. I know the unknown is so frustrating and it’s easy to over think it and start to get a bit paro and worried. I haven’t heard back since my assessment and im making up all scenarios in my head as to why not, and what’s being said etc. Its not a nice feeling.

im sure your gp just want to make sure they aren’t breaching any of DWPs rules about sharing info as they would be in trouble, but as we know you are allowed to see it, but it probably can only be shared by the pip people.

i hope this helps & makes atleast a bit of sense lol.

Main thing is try not to let it make you anxious, im sure it’s something as simple as this reason.

take care xxxx
